Well technically I started yesterday because its now 1:30 in the am. Rebuilt my front brakes including the master cylinder. I was really worried about getting that clip out because of all the stories I've read about it being hard. Fortunately the entire guts fell out when I started taking it apart so it was clearly way overdue. Several beers later I now have nice smooth powerful front brakes and a new appreciation for the magic that happens inside that master cylinder. Pic is a before shot but I couldn't post without a pic.

Took the K8 carbs apart to fix a leak on #2 and 4.... sho'nuff some tank crap had done it's business in the float valves. Fixed 2 no prob., 4 wouldn't seal even when holding the float up with my hand so dived into some 'used' carb parts and found a rubber tipped valve. Replaced the offending one ( which looked fine btw ) and prob. solved....... then checked the acc. pump squirters... yes, 1 and 2 worked great, 3 and 4 nothing.
side note... all this stuff was working 3 months ago..... moral of the story = do not leave Ethanol gas in your carb, unused for more than a week

... Cleared #3 squirter with a very small sewing needle poked into the tiny opening in the squirt post.... #4 no such luck !....had to press the squirt post down and out of the carb ( not a lot of folks know you can do this

) when pressed down, the post will unseat the brass 'bung' beneath it, need to have a catch cloth below to hold the bung and post.... poked the post clear and re-installed... 4 good squirters now ... yeah

I first used two on each side about 6" apart with the to inboard ones about 16" apart about 1 1/2" deep. Then I get four 3/16" wood screw hooks and screw them in at least an inch. Latley though I've only been using two hooks and one strap. Seems to hold the weight fine as you can see below.

Saddest day with the 550K today. I sold her

. She was running like new, no issues whatsoever, new tapered bearings, fork seals, fresh oil and a new set of chrome ears on her and now she has found a new home. The wife wanted some room and one less bike taking up space. The new owner seems genuine, maybe we will see him here..............Now on to getting the 750 up and running like a top...

cleaned and lubed all the cables, pivot points etc, cant believe how bad they were untill they after they were lubed.....hahah

Kinda makes me wonder, is there anything that most married men won't do to please their wives? I buy and sell bikes all the time, but I've never sold one because my wife has asked me to, which is probably why we're still married 30 years on. Maybe I should re-phrase the question, is there anything that a wife won't tell her husband to do? It's a sad day indeed mate, you have my sympathy. Cheers, Terry.

Ahh it wasn't in a manner where she said sell now! She is great! She "allowed " me to order HondaMans book tonight! Plus I still have my 550f and my 71 750.

Made major progress getting the wife's CH250 Elite back together. Had removed ALL the plastic bodywork to replace the tires and carb, like to never figured out where all the screws belonged! Should finish up tomorrow morning so I can get started on my own project. Starting my project was contingent on getting hers done...

Wrestled the engine back out due to the oil leak from the valve cover, dammit!

It didn't give me too much trouble coming out, although I remember now when I put it in the back wheel was on and the bike sat lower making it a little easier...
The real fun was getting it on the engine stand.
Now I gotta wait for new gasket and brake shoes to arrive...

K8...fixed it and rode it

... persistent leak from #2 carb was a brain teaser... drip, drip, drip but not out the overflow... O.K. then, must be the carb bowl seal, took the carbs off again

and double-checked the gasket... all o.k. Put back together, turn on the gas and dripping again

.... ..sheesh ! looked closer with a flashlight.... gas was coming down from above the bowl/body. Traced it up to the little in-line filter, which was cracked and leaking..... ( had to use it 'cos no filter on the petcock )... Ya never know with these old bikes

I rode my Triumph over to help a fellow CB750 owner get his bike going after he got ripped off by a dodgy bike shop, and in the process, after some horse trading, scored this beauty! Check out the number plate, is that Karma or what?

G'Day Mate, no, this one will be my 5th BMW, and my second R100RS. Tom, who Cliff (maduncle) introduced me to bought a K2 cafe racer that needed some work so he took it to a bike shop, and it took them a year to give it back.
All they did was install a big bore kit and a pretty ordinary paint job, (which they also managed to chip quite badly) synched the carbs and did some minor electrical work, and charged him 3500 bucks.

That was bad enough, but he could have lived with that if the bike was running well, with no more problems. This wasn't the case though, they knew that the countershaft seal was leaking badly but didn't bother to fix it while the engine was out of the frame, so it's gotta come out again, it's only running on 2 cylinders (1 and 2) but I think that's an ignition issue so no biggie, and the starter clutch is clagged.

I'm going to do all the remediation work for him as part payment on the BMW, plus give him some cash, the BMW needs a bit of work too, but nothing serious, and it'll be a nice long distance bike. I sold my last R100RS 10 years ago, so it'll be nice to have another one again. Cheers, Terry.

Thanks mate, it's actually pretty clean under all that dust, the shocks are new Ikons that Tom bought for it, but the good thing is that he kept the original Boge shocks, so if I ever restore it, I've got original parts. Cheers, Terry.

Ha ha, don't remind me about the bloody Triumph Larry, I think I'll park it in my lounge room and just look at it, while I ride my (much more reliable) old bikes!

That's ridiculous Terry. Keeping his bike for a year and charging $3500 and the bike is still not right

Seems like word would get around that this shop is a rip-off and people would stop taking there bikes to them. There doors need to be closed not open. What ever happened to pride in your work and giving the customer what he paid for.
I know since it's in your hands now it will be running top-notch real soon

I'm assuming you put a bike on its center stand and ratchet strapped the rear end in place THEN took everything off? It's a great idea, I can't wait to try it.

Put bike on center stand and pull rear wheel first. Then strap it down. I've been doing this for years and it's very stable. Even when pulling the engine. The nice thing about it is when the rear wheel is off, you just ratchet down the rear to get the front off the floor and the front wheel just drops out easily.
