i've been pretty productive lately. temps are supposed to be in the upper 50's next week, so i'm doing all i can.
here ya go for today:
1. installed petcock rebuild kit.
2.  cleaned/ regreased the chain. reinstalled.
 3. messed up the drive chain tensioner on the left side. luckily i had a spare one layin around, so i fixed it no problem. I just spun the head off the bolt, but it was in such a weird place, i had to take the axle out the back tire and use a whole new piece. i couldnt get the bolt out with the piece still on the bike.
4.   rewired my rear turn signals. whoever had the bike before me ripped the ground wire off, so we'll see if my solution really works. i need to get bulbs.
5 finished the prep work for painting my tank and sprayed two coats of primerzzzzzzzzzz. as i was wet-sanding the last coat, my paper was freezing and ice was forming. so i called it quits for the night.
6. found an old random side cover and began fab work to make my own electrical side cover. nothing special, just an idea im playing with.

I think my seat cover comes in tomorrow. I'll finish painting and putting the seat cover on tomorrow and post a photo.

i love this stuff!

New cable adjuster! Hoorah!

And I pulled the caliper to clean up and repaint. I also plan to upgrade to a phenolic piston along with stainless lines and putting one of those ebay master cylinders on. I have a spare rotor so I'm also going to see if I can't drill some holes.

Cut the old spokes on my front hub and started polishing.  Lacing new spokes and wheel will be later in the week.  I finished the rear wheel this weekend

Today I took apart my 78 cb750k. Tomorrow I am taking the motor out and puttin it up on the bench. This bike is very special to me as I;m sure your bike is too for whatever reason or just due to the simple fact that these bikes rule!! I can't wait to get started on the rebuild! This will be my first time boys so any advise or assistance will be greatly appreciated! I wish I took pictures for the before but I had my hands all greasy and the camera was inside the house,my grouchy wife was inside the house,u get my drift? I stayed out in the garage till she came out to get me 4 hours later for an incredible dinner! Ignore em and they love ya more! hahahaha.

Had a great day, Dave Benge (a member here) who has been very ill with cancer but is doing better now, flew down to Melbourne from Sydney and I rode over on my Triumph to have lunch and a couple of drinks with him at a pub. Sadly he can't eat very much and can only drink water, but regardless, we had a good time.

Dave's a Vietnam veteran, was a member of the only combined Aussie/American unit during the war, so every year he flies over to the US to spend time with surviving members of his old unit, and a lot of them ride bikes, so they organise a Harley for Dave to ride while he's there, which is pretty cool.

Dave, thanks for your service.  D.

When I put this 836 motor together it had all been blasted. I decided not to paint part of it and just try the bare alum.

Not a wise choice ............as it rusted?
Today I decided since the forks were off I would try and sort it out.
It would have been so easy the 1st time ::) ::)

I have never seen rusty aluminum. Don't think I ever will. Aluminum does not rust...it oxidizes with a white residue which is alumoxide. But the paint is ok too.

tmac,

Check to see if the nut is off the bolt.  If it is, then take a drift or punch to tap the bolt out.  If this doesn't solve the problem, please open a new thread for faster service!  ;D
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

If its what i think, the hex of the nut is supposed to fit tight in the channel of the crankcases, so that channel will hold it from turning as you turn the bolt head. If the nut has been replaced with a downsized hex, it will turn as you mention. I jam a thick flat instrument in there like a chisel. It should lodge between the hex of the nut and the channel of the crankcases, allowing you to spin out the bolt.

Its not often that something is engineered so that you can't get a wrench on the nut and actually turn the bolt head with your wrench.

Had 45 mins to drop the motor for a buyer, said motor probably weights more than I do. Picture sums it up pretty good.

re-trued the rear wheel then took it to be balanced at a local kawiamaha shop
