Wrestled the engine back out due to the oil leak from the valve cover, dammit! >:(

It didn't give me too much trouble coming out, although I remember now when I put it in the back wheel was on and the bike sat lower making it a little easier...
The real fun was getting it on the engine stand.
Now I gotta wait for new gasket and brake shoes to arrive...  :P

Slick idea in removing engine. I like it! Just slide it out.

what kind of bike is that? and am i missing an easy way to get that engine outta there that doesnt require a full tear down or a hack saw?
The left side frame rail (down tube transitioning into the under tube) is removable. Disconnects at a point just above the front head, and clear back at the riders footpeg.

Its a wide open space once that's done.

Thanks, I can't take credit for the setup, another forum member thought of the setup, but yeah, I find it a relatively painless way to pull the engine solo.

Got the swingarm all in a almost finished.  Tried to lube it and the gun breaks, go get another one same darn problem.  Never by a grease gun from AutoZone.  The threads are shredded in the head before you even open the box.  I guess no RvM today.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Will you have it back together for next weekend? Need to borrow a gasket??

Tore into the new project.  1978 750f that I am doing a resto-mod on.  Dropped of the tins with nvr2old for a fresh paint job and hope to get the engine out this weekend so I can get the frame and a bunch of other bits off to powder.

That's ridiculous Terry. Keeping his bike for a year and charging $3500 and the bike is still not right >:( Seems like word would get around that this shop is a rip-off and people would stop taking there bikes to them. There doors need to be closed not open. What ever happened to pride in your work and giving the customer what he paid for.
I know since it's in your hands now it will be running top-notch real soon ;)

Thanks for the compliment mate, I'll try to live up to it, ha ha! I think the problem with bike mechanics nowadays is that they are more "parts fitters" than actual mechanics, so basically, if one part is not working as it should, they just replace it with a new one.

The trouble with that is that most shops now don't have parts for 40 year old bikes on the shelf, and neither do their suppliers. This was probably the case with the counter shaft seal, they probably couldn't get one locally, so they didn't bother to fix it. Having said that, you'd reckon they could have found one in the year it took them to fix Tom's bike! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Rode downtown on the K8 and the Mrs. on the 650 to meet with Tugboat and view the start of a DedPed gathering/ride..... about 100 'peds' showed-up and then rode about 60 miles roundtrip... Ah the smell of premix was overpowering  :o. Got a new petcock rubber washer from Tug ( Thanks Tug ) and came home to fixit..... managed the repair by breaking one of the rivets  and bending the front plate enough to work the on/res/off lever out from the body...  :) good so far.... put the new seal in and found it too thick to allow the lever to move !! Very tight. Had to sand the back of the seal down to match the thickness of the original
Put it back together and 'mashed' the rivet back over the front plate.... yeah, works perfect and turns just nice'n snug. An enjoyable evening in the garage doing this  ;).... beers were on hand  ;D
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

So Tom rode his CB750 over to my place this morning so I can fix it for him. When he arrived he mentioned that he was having problems with his front brake, so after he left I took a look at it. And was shocked.

As you can see, for some reason the shop he took it to, after installing new wheel bearings reassembled the axle "arse backwards" with the head of the axle protruding around 6mm instead of sitting flush with the forks. Hmnnnnn.... Notice the gap between the head of the axle and the spacer? That allows the front wheel to slide around 6mm from side to side, within the forks. So what else did they do wrong? Check this out.

Yep, the "mechanic" put the axle nut on backwards, with the hex outboard of the forks. Fark! There was no tension on the speedo drive gearbox so it could have spun around taking the cable with it, with the potential to do a lot of damage. Not the sort of work you'd expect from a professional motorcycle shop, I wouldn't have thought? Cheers, Terry. ;D

no attention to detail?they would have taken it apart,,youd think it would go back together the same way,,its not like they were given a box of parts,id complain and point out the obvious potential for disaster they just charged him for,,and expect a benefit of some sort?

At least he got all of his parts back.  My buddy (Harley guy) had his bike in the shop in Indianapolis and they pulled all of his performance parts and replaced them with stock HD parts.  Bike shops scare me for the most part.

Dropped needles. Out 1/2 turn on air fuel. Dropped to 7 on the plugs. Not rich anymore. Test rode it getting ready to sell and remebered why I never have been able to sell it. I have a problem.....

I told my wife, maybe I just sell my old BMW. She said no. "Theyre too hard to find". Shes a keeper. Wife and bike.
