Changed out the bulbs on my speedo gauge only to find out they were fine and that I have an obvious electrical problem.

i gave it to a panel shop,,surely it would have a fair bit of bog/bondo in it,the filler neck was still slightly at an angle,that was the bike i just sold,i remember your post on splitting the tanks,i cant find it now have you got a link maybe terry?i want to try and straighten this one myself(how hard can it be?)famous last words.

Thanks Dave, Danny and Fred et al, on the older CB750 tanks (and maybe the 500 tanks too Dave) the top and bottom sections of the tank are seam welded, so I used the linisher (belt sander) attachment that's mounted on my old bench grinder to carefully grind around the seam, just enough until the seam started to split.

Once you've got the two halves apart it's a piece of cake to bash the dings out. (don't be too over-enthusiastic with the hammer or you'll end up with a high spot which you'll need to shrink back) Once you're happy with your panel beating efforts, just braze or Tig weld (not Mig) the two halves back together again.

Make sure you do a leak test though, or buy a gallon of POR-15! I did post some pics on this thread from memory, back in November or December last year, I did that tank on my blue K2. (December BOTM winner) I've got pics somewhere, so if you can't find my pics on this thread, I'll dig 'em out again. Cheers, Terry.

Finished up my horn issues late last night and took her in for the yearly inspection this morning. Passed with flying colors finally back on the road after a rough year sorting out little gremlins.

Super hot for the last week or so here in 37217. Just toooo hot to ride.... until yesterday when a big t'storm rolled thru' and the temp. dropped from about 93 to 73 behind it. I yanked the bike out of the garage PDQ and rode it from 5 to 7 pm.... bliss

..... Pulled 6,500 rpm in 5th. for a bit

( Go figure; 15mph per 1,000 rpm , stock K1).......

Have had the 750 up on blocks for 3-4 weeks while I tackle the front wheel. It has always had too much "wobble" and truing the spokes came to a stop as several were rusted solid. So I've pulled it apart. Managed to snag my NEW inner tube on the way out with a recklish bull at a gate attempt to lever off the tyre. But now have the rim de-spoked aftter leaving the wheel soaking in a electric salt bath for a week - to de-rust the inner rim. Worked nicely. Dropped the rim at the electroplater today and picked up the mudguard and stays he just finished after 2 weeks. This had a nasty series of ripples along the top surface - I've no idea how this could have been so mangled. The plater spent a good time with his linisher puttitng as good a surface back on it before polishing and rechroming. It looks good - not 100% - but a 95% result - for $130.

I have a 1981 CB750 Custom. Today I removed the broken machine screw on the brake master cylinder. Then drilled and retapped it for 8-32 screws and replaced the O ring. Fixed the clogged hose on the clutch side disc brake and fixed my speedo cable that I didn't have hooked up right after I did my fork seals the day before. I replaced my back brakes and took to the road for a while. It feels like a new bike now...

Cleaned the carbs again today, then got'em put back on. And I also decided to put an inline filter (I know I know not cool), but until I can get around to cleaning the tank better it'll have to do. It runs so much better

now it's ready for Sunday!

mounted a ammeter. Then went to lunch at the restaurant 4 blocks away. Just as I was parking it the clutch cable broke.

Called the wife and told her I thought I could make it home. After eating I went out to the bike and tried to get it going. Just couldn't get it rolling fast enough. Called the wife and told her I was going to have to push it home. Pushed it around the block and started going down a hill. Had to use the brake to keep it from getting away. Then I thought maybe I could push it down the hill fast enough, hop on and fire it up! Well, I came to my senses, and realized at my age there is no hopping left in me, so I climbed on the bike walked it forward until it picked up a little speed, turned on the ignition, slammed the shifter down into first and she took right off. Waved at the wife as I passed her going the other way with my son on her way to rescue me. Rode home in first gear and hit the kill switch as it wheeled up into the front yard. Had to take the CJ-7 into work this afternoon for the first time in over two months.

Now I've got to find a clutch cable.

Well it was time to get bikes inspected in Massachusetts. I brought my 500 and 400 in for their compulsory take money from the owner minute. The kid checked the fork seals, brake pad thickness, head bearing play, chain tension, light and horn function, tread thickness, etc. etc. Everything passed. Turns out the kid was not even born when these machines hit the road. The realization made me feel very old, still it is nice to be alive in the spring with two wheels.

I ordered a clutch cable for my 360T. The old one is pretty stretched out, if I adjust it to spec per the shop manual it pulls the lever too far. Also ordered a gasket for my stator cover and four new rubber bushings for under the tach and speedo

Hey Terry if you could repost those pictures that would be awesome! I'm actually about to do the same thing, my tank is just so dirty and dented it's gonna be easier to cut it open and fix it then tryintg to do it from the outside. I have full access to a fab shop so I just need a good example to follow.

I ordered todays stuff from Bike Bandit. The clutch cable is a Motion Pro $8.46, the other stuff is straight OEM.

I won't be the one putting it back together, but I need to go in and clean the tank by hand (lots of old tankliner in there a long with a lot of old sediment), because I'm sick and tired of having to clean my carbs. Not that it'd hard to do, it's just a royal pain in the arse.

Bagged a new clutch cable at a local motorcycle shop in Flint called Mike's. It's a MotionPro cable. Installed it this evening. Now the CJ can go back to sleep for a while.
