Replaced the worn out shocks/springs on the rear with new one from progressive.  They ride very nice!

From there I pulled both front forks since they needed new seals and to replace their springs with progressives too.  It took me about 3 hours to get the rubber wiper and the seal itself out of that thing.  It was insane how much corosion there was. Blah.

I hope to get the second fork finished today.

Rode it!

And since it's so nice outside... decided to dress it up with some new paint.  ;D

I'm going to continue to ride it until it's below freezing outside, at which point I'll break it down and dress it up more professionally.

I figured in the meantime I'd try and come up with a new style every couple of weeks.

That'll be entertaining.  8)

i blew a fuse today while riding and now im trying to figure out why? one second i was purring along and the next i was drifting onto the shoulder.  also the master cylinder starting leaking aroud the cap...i guess i need a new cap or diaphram

Last time I blew a main fuse on the road is was a short (exposed ignition wire under the tank touching the frame). Check conxns and grounds as well.

On my 76 CB750 I'm trying to replace item #3 strainer, but having trouble getting old strainer out of tank. Tried to pull it straight out with needle nose pliers and screw it out, but doesn't want to come out either way. The strainer is only plastic and the new one is not threaded so it must just pull out. I hope the PO didn't glue it in someway. Anybody done this before? What's the trick?

Where did you find that?

I did this today.
A small bow saw cuts through a rock-hard Spitfire rather well.  ;D
The tin snips did the rest.

Son (5yo) and I finally started washing some of the deep gunk off of the 550....
and changed the plugs, cleaned the cap connections, took off the windshield, set the timing (was pretty far off), cleaned and gapped points, set the cam chain tension, tweaked the air screws.
As I completed each little task I'd take it for a spin through the park, and with each little trip it seemed to run a little bit better.

Overall running much better now  ;D ... and still s'more tweaking to do!

.... there's the PEP I've been expecting!  ;)

Went on a day trip Saturday, with a small repair day today.

About 15 min. into the ride, the bike decides to die.  Pulled over, and did the basic checks.  Battery good.  Carbs were dry.  Switched over to reserve (even though plenty of fuel in tank), and rode the rest of the day with no problems.

Figured there was an obstruction in the 'on' port of the petcock, since it ran fine rest of day on reserve.
So.. today pulled tank, cleaned petcock, new fuel line, new small inline filter, pulled and cleaned the 'in tank' strainer.  It all wasn't as dirty as I was expecting, so i guess that's good.

Checked and gapped plugs.  All were looking great.  Nice brown color.

Yesterdays ride was on the Loess Hills Scenic byway south of Council Bluffs Iowa, and down south to MO state line.  Got 56.69 MPG.  Not bad for a '82 Cb650 with passenger and a loaded sissy bar pack.

Come on!  We're burning daylight!

Finished installing the new fork seals and progressive rate springs in the 650.  Took her for a test run - SOOOOO much better.  Much more stabil in the turns and braking is definitely improved.  Before when you came to a stop, the frame would "load up" and would "unload" when you released the front brake.  Now it plants itself firm to a stop without the diving.

This should be a fun week riding to work!  :-D

I put a generic turn signal relay on my 360, replaced the beat up stator cover with an undamaged one from the junkyard.  Fought with putting a Motion Pro clutch cable on the bike and figured out that it just isn't made right.  I put the old clutch cable back on the bike and readjusted the clutch.  I rode around aimlessly in the warehouse district by my shop windin 1st 2nd and 3rd out to 7grand and downshifting just a shade early which makes the back tire bark.

(Late last night) Did some test/tune on the 650, trying to get the new suspension dialed in.  While I was out riding I got the spookiest sensation like the rear tire "wasn't there."  Almost a floating sensation.  Dropped the preload on the rear shocks and that helped some.  Brought it home and checked the tire pressure.  WAY too high ~ 38 pounds instead of 28.  Dropped both the front and rear tire down to spec.  Went for another run and was substantially improved.  The bike felt like it was "planted on the road" rather than "riidng above it".

Also pulled my plugs after the ride.  Pic below, plugs ordered 1-4, left to right.  #1 - a lot of carbon, #2,3 very lean.  #4 looks pretty good - brown.  I rebuilt the carbs with keyster kits, and since then it's never been quite right no matter what tweaking I do to the pilots.  I'm going to put the original mains back in, see what happens.

I had the same issue with a MP clutch cable installed by the PO. It didn't fit right where it goes into the case.

Gave the new windscreen a test and rode up to Madison where my Dad is having an outpatient procedure.

Beautiful and sunny and a nice ride through the rolling southern Wisconsin countryside. The screen makes a huge difference above 50mph, although there is some head buffeting, the screen could use to be a couple inches taller I suspect.

Tore the clutch cover off because the plates were stuck.  Got everything apart, cleaned and ready to put back together then found out that there are no clutch cover gaskets available in Canada!  the kid behind the counter informed me, as if i had been living in a cave for the last few months, that there was an earthquake in japan and i could expect the gasket the 22 of August.
So off to the internet and ordered one but more complications, the Post Office is on strike in Canada.  Second best option is to send the gasket to Eureka, Montana and drive down and pick it up.  Just got back!
I don't want it to go like a motorcycle, I want it to go like a rocket!
