Yanno, sometimes that makes for some great company!

Well, it never talks back to me.  ;)

Bought some Tarozzi rearsets for the 72 500.  Shoud go well with the full churchgate fairing set-up.  Can't wait.

re-glued the re-crack in my sidecover. Maybe I'll use a little less baking soda next time.
And of course ... rode it to work ..
what's that?  50% chance of what? ...
well..
A much better chance of a nice ride :)

I decided to remove and clean the carbs on my 550 today.  I've never had them off since purchasing the bike a few years ago....it has always run reasonably well with the exception of pretty lack-luster fuel mileage.  They were worse than I expected.....can you tell which of the 4 have not been cleaned yet in this pic?  :o

The slow jets may have been clogged just a bit, but overall everything seemed clear and the floats moved freely even with the gunk.

Oddly, the float height appears to have been set WAY off last time these were opened up.  They are supposed to be 22mm and they look to be about half that (way too high).  Never had any fuel from the overflows, though.   ???  Hopefully setting the floats correctly will help correct my mileage issues and richness.

Were your plugs black and sooty with the float level off that much?

Finallt got my CB550k back from the shop. Carbs completely rebuilt, had to adjust the points. The Shop in Bayview, was very detailed and the owner took his time to explain everything that was completed. First time I drove her while running well.... Well, sorta... She doesn't want to stay running when coming to a stop.... At times, she will idle around 1k-1250 and stay running but other then that she will die... Sounds like she wants to stop running... But when she is driving, man, I understand all the postings of the enjoyment these bikes bring their owners.... Anyways, took off the horrible fairing and saddle bags. MOunted the rear and front turn signals, played around 4 hours to get the wiring correct and still no turn signals... SIGH... I will have to hit up Ace Hardware to pick up some rubber gaskets and modify the bucket Removed the handle bar extension also.... Now I am going to search the threads for the proper wiring diagram to get these lights functioning...

You know what....I must have been high on carb cleaner.   ;)  I went out to finish things up and as it turns out the float were not off as much as I thought.  Actually, they were very close and I just had to do minor adjustments.  The plugs typically are slightly sooty.  I've never synchronized the carbs on this bike so that's next.

Watched the odometer go past 11,111.1 miles. 76 F. It had 7,8xx when I got it. So after 35 years, 1/4 of the total miles were put on this year.

78K 750 Put Together ( I'm not callin' it a re-build  ;) )..... Put on the wire loom , solenoid, rectifier, diode, changed-out the ign. switch for one that has a key !, wired the r/h control, rigged a main fuse, connected the starter AND couldn't resist cranking it over.... woohoo.... no fuel/air set-up yet ( like tank and such to feed fuel to carbs... minor detail !! )...... drank a (few ) beers, posted here...
Oh... and my friggin' oil tank has a pinhole in the bottom of it ( feck it ), so posted in the 'wanted section'...........

Rode my CB360 to the license exam station and took my riding skills test.  30 years after I started riding.  Getting my first ever speeding ticket on a bike was the thing that did it.  Watched a bunch of guys take the test.  I hate to say it but the big twin HD's had the best advantage because they could idle thru the whole test.  A guy about 70 on a little scooter high sided his bike doing the quick brake test, that's an instant fail.  The guy wasn't hurt, and we all felt bad that he crashed his ride.

Hi Jack,

...the seat is self made.

Did the electric at my K0, no fuse smashed but I had big problems to get my starter running. Seems that the NEW wiring harness has a wrong cable color  :o  what ever the starter is working now  ;D

Today/Yesterday I wrapped my headers....

And took off my rockerbox, replaced the cam pucks, and installed a new valve cover gasket.

found 2 cam pucks to be leaking.  I am hoping this stops my oil leaks along the fins. Crossing my fingers but not holding my breath.

Now I just need to replace the shifter seal, and primary drive seal... How easy is this??

I made it :-D  had it upholstered by my buddy's dad.  Here's the build thread.

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=91256.msg1026307#msg1026307

Cost me under $100 for the whole job, parts + labor.  Without the buddy's discount prob right at $150.

Rode the 72 500 to work since it's nice and sunny out.  The 72 just doesn't have the torque the 73 has.  It gets slugish at about 4500rpms and doesn't want to pull hard.  Still makes it from a to b though.
