I had a pretty craptacular day at work, and the fiance went to dinner with a girlfriend.  This left me home alone and board. >:(  So, I started to strip the bike down!  Yep, it's all coming off/out. Man do I feel better! ;D
Pics to follow tomorrow.

I has been to hot all summer to get in the garage and fire up the ovens.....but today was it! Got the fork legs powder coated. Not bad for the first try. Been collecting parts all summer. Gonna stay busy this fall and winter. Built a media blaster big enough to put the frame in.

After finding fried power lead in right handlebar and when the switch spring from the right control went "boing" and I never found it again, decided enough is enough and bought R6 controls on ebay.

I mean the kill switch was gone, the clutch lever pivot broke totally, time to replace both sides.

Got the frame and all the "black" bits ready to go to the painter sometime in the next week or so.
Will start a reassemble thread once I get these back as I was not a member when I started this project and was unaware of this site.

...was fighting with my k0 carbs, changed the needle float but still leaking from the overflow  :P
Took off the lower cap from carb #3 and was wondering how could it still pi$$ if only the rest fuel is in there  ???
Found a hair-crack in the little overflow tube  :o  just fixed it, will see if it will work.
K0 still not ready  :-X

edit-->...no more leaking carbs  ;D

Fired it up and rode it to work, it wasn't exactly happy about that.  It's been sitting for about a week, plus it was nice and cool outside too so it took a few miles to shake it out.  All is good now!  :D

Also pulled the plugs to see what story they would tell.  With the exception of #4 being slightly black, #1, 2, and 3 were spot on if not just a hair lean.

Rode my bike to work again today. Beautiful day today for a ride. When I got home the wife gave me a box that came from fellow member VFRPilot. He let me borrow his Morgon CarbTune kit! Gonna be doing some syncing when I get back home from my Mother In Laws funeral in Michigan this weekend.  :'(

I took some old KZ1000 manifolds and cut out the carb sync tubes.
Then I drilled an undersized hole on the stock manifolds of my 836
Made a fixture to press in the tubes (From the inside as the tubes have a flat on the back side to keep it from pulling out of the manifold) and not crunch the tubes or the 36 year old honda manifolds
and now I have a way to Sync my CRs.

spray-painted the instrument cluster, got the blinks working (needed flasher unit, $2.60), got the rear light working (rusted bulb socket, dirty fuse holder).  tested all electrics again after full de-wire and re-connect in the headlight bucket.  everything works except the running lights.   ;D

will tackle that some rainy day.

next up is complete disass of forks for full refresh, then install and work on the front brakes (nice piston but needs a  seal).

I installed my new intake boots from David Silver! Re-synced the carbs and road around.  I spotted a very cool clean 550 cafe riding around South Portland, Maine.  It was black and red with a number "5" on the home made side cover.  I tried hunting him down to chat but couldn't.

Now all there is to do is wait for my oil pan gasket from Bikebandit ... I cant believe I didnt replace this during my rebuild.... looks lick I picked myself a couple oopsie daisies
" Why does anyone get offended by what someone does to their own bike? I dont get it. "

You made me think about it after I cheered knowing someone else would like to know what these control freaks are up to.
Every time any owner strips whatever precious Honda part the horrified purists parts go up in value. That's not the part that bothers them.
What bothers them is they sat up late at night, their breast full of wonder and estrogen, unable to sleep, dreaming about their lovely darling and all her glory... and next thing you know someone else doesn't share their emotional deluge and their reaction is they must spread their mind museum as far as they possibly can, taking over as much of the real world as possible.

I usually don't ride my bike to work because my wife and I carpool, and I typically need my car for my job. However, the stars aligned the past two days, so I've been able to ride my relatively new to me 400f to work both days...It's been awesome.

Both mornings it's been near 1 or 2 degrees celcius, or for you American folk, between 32 and 37, and it still starts on the first kick! I used to think some of you guys were lying when you said your bikes always started first kick, because my old 550K never did!

I rerouted the fuel line and got rid of the funky filter, put hte air box on (which was a pain in the azz), and still can't get the boots on all the way.

But, as hard as the box is pushing on the carbs, they should be fine.

Started it up and adjusted (played with) the carbs, really need to get them sync'ed.

But, man, let me tell you, she ran so good, still hic-ups at full throttle, but thats better than not running at all a few days ago.

Damn, i might even be ready to insure , tag and start riding her back and forth to work, as soon as I buy a tail light and mount the rear turn signals.

fab'd, sanded and painted a single instrument mount.  been wanting to run just either a speedo or tacho for sometime 'cause it looks cool.  this project is going to be a blend of stuff:  mini-apes, fatty out back, lowered a bit, short sissy, jardine turn-outs, chopped front fender, stepped seat.
