Delivered the 400SS to its new home.  Sad to see it go, but it's now parked along side two other 400F's (yellow & blue) in member boojiking's garage.

Beautiful bike! what kind of brake set up do you have there?

And Front Fender too?

G'Day Guys, the 41mm front forks, 4 piston brake calipers and big discs are from a Yamaha FZR1000, mated to the frame via CNC machined triples and hub spacers, speedo drive adapter etc. The fender is a Suzuki GN250 item I found at a wreckers yard when I bought the forks. The conversion was done by the PO, but the forks and fender were destroyed when he crashed it. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Definitely heard a tapping/ticking on the way home...A noise that was there before the rebuild. Pulled the valve cover off the 550... perfectly lubed, no signs of any damage.  Broke the tach drive gear in the process.  Told the bike to catch a boat to #$%*_offity_land.  Grabbed a bear and started looking at craigslist for a GSXR or fz6R.  Rash decisions have been made on my account due to a few too many beers.  Hopefully tonight isn't one of those nights.

as long as the result of a rush decision does not involve baby stroller, it is all just experience:)

Hooked up rebuilt carbs, tank and lines and fired her up.  It took a while and she was not soudning good.  Decided accomplished enough and cleaned up.  Went to the house and remembered unplugging spark cables from 1-4 to get to wire harness.    I did not reconnect them, she was running two cylinders and so eager to please that she started anyway,  what a moron I am >:(
Anyway, reconnected  cables, she fired right up and just a touch of stop screw set her  in nice - by ear - idle.
Synchro next.

That reminds me of yesterday when I was done syncing my carbs. Got the tank back on, fuel lines hooked up, and went to start it, cranked 4 or 5 times over I gave it some gas and it fired up. No off throttle running tho....? Took another look at the carbs, I still had the sync needled installed on the carbs! Dohhhh  :o

ebay.  Mine were kind of a rare find, since there doesn't seem to have been much aftermarket support for 650s.

Cut and beat a piece of 18g stainless into a seat pan. will finish it tommorrow, and then do the rear cowling. No more rust rotten metal no matter how wet she gets!

Rode her to/from work Sunday.  On the way home it was finally dark enough to actually need a headlight.  Naturally, the low beam decided to cut out with 7 miles left.  Clicked on the high and thankfully it worked just fine.

Going to have to look over my switches and wiring.  Figure out what went loose.

Craigslist...I see hard bag sets there occasionally, usually $100-$250 and they go pretty quick. Leather bags are cheaper and more abundant..The set I have on my 750 were a gift from a friend, but the Suzi bags I use on my Yamaha cost me $20 and were brand new. Decent leather bags run $25- up...theres a set from a 2005 vt1100 Shadow Sabre for $35 locally right now..

I rode mine 'bout 20 miles... then it smoked me out, the oil light came on and the bike died. How was your day?

I flirted with all three today.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Started working on the CB550 I recently picked up. I'm trying to involve my wife as much as possible too! She completed the MSF course and obtained her motorcycle license this Summer and has expressed an interest in wrenching. I think she realizes that if she is going to ride vintage bikes, she needs to be handy with some tools. Here she is replacing the enormous stock turn signals with smaller aftermarket ones. Next up, we removed the gigantic tail light and prepared for the installation of a smaller one. Also, the previous owner concealed a broken exhaust bracket - which we discovered when removing the passenger pegs. I MacGyver'd a temporary fix - which, as you can see, raised the right side exhaust up about four inches. One of the many "surprises" we discovered today.
However, I must admit I am quite fond of women who know how to wield a wrench! 8)

Put the license plate on and drove it around the neighborhood.  First time legally!

I would ride to work today, but we have client visiting and it is business code, yuck  ::)

sanded down the pitting on the tappets then polished them, inspected the rocker shafts for play, re-installed the valve cover, adjust valves/tappet clearances, rode the living piss out of it for 20 miles or so.  It seemed to like the abuse.  I think it is possible I had a few clearances too tight prior to this endevour.  The tapping noise is more consistent with all valves now, gets quieter when hot, and is not heard over the exhaust over 2,000 RPM.

Let it sit in the driveway, which was good because I got hit by a drunk driver, with a suspended license.  My car is tougher than the bike.
