Installed the correct badges on the side covers for my K5.  Kinda tricky drilling the holes in the right place.

Then I stripped the XL250s down to the frame & engine. I'll pull the engine out tomorrow.
The only surprise I found was the coil is cracked.  Oh well.
So few parts compared to the 750!  It only took a couple of hours and I wasn't hurrying.
It'll be so much easier & cheaper to restore.
(Except for the ~$300 muffler from New Zealand...) ::)

Noticed a "clicking" sound coming from the engine, so I adjusted the cam chain tension-er for the first time since I got her.  Seems quieter now.  :)

Picked off the melted plastic bag that blew across the road and wrapped around the header pipes. :P

Cleaned the speedo and tach up on my CB650, sanded and painted the head light bucket for the same bike.  Rode the 360 to work, making a cool growling sound all the way there and back.

took off the pods on the 550 and mounted the airbox and rubbers from ebay.  Also lubed and               tightened up the chain.  LUbed the 650 chain and moved the saddlebags over to it for my work commute.

Tried some polishing for the first time. Learning experience indeed! Still some more work to go.

Finished tearing down the XL250s and got the engine on the stand.  Started making a stack of parts to take to the powder coater.

Then I installed new NGK spark plug boots on the K5.  The old boots were probably original and totally shot.
I went for a quick ride and holy cow what an improvement!  :o   I mean, seriously!
I should have replaced those old boots sooner. Best $10 I've spent on the bike.

I did nothing.  My SOHCs are performing at the height of their capability and I just ride them.  Is that a problem??

finished a full refurb on my brake caliper: polished the mounting bracket, sanded/painted the mounting arm, soft wire-wheeled the fasteners, sanded and painted the caliper halves.  sanded and polished the piston (looked nice before, but whattheheck).  gotta order a piston seal.

close inspection of the DID aluminum wheel i got on fleabay revealed spokes i'm not happy with (ending a sentence with a preposition).  and the rim is only fair, not "nice".  so i made the decision to use the nice spokes from the original wheel, and powdercoat the rim.

meaning?  even tho i've been riding since '69 or thereabouts, i'll finally be a real biker after i lace my first wheel.   8)

I long for that day..... ::)

Actually, I probably would have ridden more today but it rained for the first time in 6 months...
I'm not complaining.
