Drained the oil for the third time this week. This time it's to pull the oil pump and replace a/the gasket/s. First time was to replace the oil pan gasket. Second time was to tap an oversized drain plug from stripping the previous one with a big 1/2in ft/lb torque wrench. The next (and hopefully time) will be to replace the oil pan once it gets here.

Bought oil seals and circlips to rebuild the forks. Won't be swapping in the R6 front end for a while.

Discovered I need a new chain.

Bought a 72 K2 750 kit. Titled frame!! Guy I got it from bought it in boxes, brought it home, and it sat in the rain until the boxes fell apart. Bike's totally in pieces, someone loved it once, it's got finned covers and chrome all over it, but it's all peeling and flaking, except for the aftermarket airbox and the master cylinder. Got a fiberglass trunk, the smallest hardbags I've ever seen, and a funky fairing. Got a nice pair of Comstars along with the original wheels, tank's kinda gritty inside, and the filled in badge bondo needs some finishing, but it'll work.

I got distracted with running errands and I know haow the price of things goes up  in a certain atmosphere, but I would have bid on a couple things today including this.

Sounds like my bikes. Boxes stack up easy but tough to ride on them.

What will you do with that - sandblast them?  I ask because I have a set of 80 900C engine side cases that had been chromed and now look awful.  I don't know what to do with them.  I was thinking I might be best to 'wet sand' with WD40, starting with 150 and work down to 600, then polish them.

What will you do with that - sandblast them?  I ask because I have a set of 80 900C engine side cases that had been chromed and now look awful.  I don't know what to do with them.  I was thinking I might be best to 'wet sand' with WD40, starting with 150 and work down to 600, then polish them.

Take them to a chrome platers and get them professionally stripped mate. I've had a few alloy parts done and they did a great job. I also had a swap meet 20 dollar exhaust system stripped of it's crappy flaking chrome and by the time I painted it with some high temp black, it looked like new. Cheers, Terry.

Today I made up a plate to go under the seat and make it easier to spread out and secure all the electrical components that were normally piled up on top of the battery (electronic ignition box, alarm box, alarm siren, etc). Much neater now.

Then I had my first go at un-lacing a hub from a spoke wheel. Kinda mind numbing as you work your way around the wheel aint it?

I used cut off wheel. Wanted the drum from 16" wheel and this was the quickiest way.

finland...no denmark...and speak  the worst english on planet..it vas ironi to me self...not to blame you...its great that ve can be on forum..even vith bad english

That's what I had in mind for most of them..the airbox and  M/C aren't perfect, but the spots in the finish are "period correct", and fit well with the other "old chrome" parts on the one I ride. Plan is, rebuild the M/C and caliper, new bearings in the front wheel and drill the rotor, so when it's all ready, my rider won't be down for more than a few hours to do the swap. Now that I've got a center stand, I can change my back wheel too, already got new bearings in the wheel and new brakepads, just a day to get it all together and she's good for another couple seasons. The box o' parts is gonna be....you guessed it...cafe'd. Already have a complete 74 front end so I can do the dual disc conversion. It also came with a set of  4-4  hm425 pipes, they fit a 79-80 cb750, anyone ever "make em fit" an earlier bike? I kinda like the way they look..if not, what are they worth? no road rash and the chromes not too bad..

I've modified a few sets of aftermarket pipes to fit bikes they were never intended for mate, and you might get lucky with your chrome pipes by just tweaking the headers to fit your engine, but the mounting points may not fit your bike properly, so it's a "suck it and see" kind of deal.

If those pipes are in really good condition, you might be better off selling them and buying yourself a good aftermarket pipe, like one of those Yoshi replica's etc. Here's a link to a thread I started a couple of years ago on the subject of modifying exhaust systems to fit other bikes. Unloaded the 72 Cb750 From my van that I picked up yesterday, pulled off the rusted out tattered seat. Found out the tank is almost totally rust free, which is a bonus. Rolled it into the garage, hardtail project here we go!

Cleaned up some of the good parts and put them on my rider, a perfect headlight ring, chrome footpegs, a nice tach hold down strap, chrome oil filter cover, didn't get the airbox or M/C on it yet, but that'll be next. Rollled the dead motor over, it's  not seized...I'm kinda hoping the speedo is really broke tho (face plate is busted in two), it shows 75745.8 miles. Got some cool little passenger floorboards I'm gonna put on my Auto...

Sounds good mate, I've got a soft spot for CB750 Choppers, so make sure you start a build thread. Are you buying a hardtail frame, or a weld on hard tail for the K2 frame? Cheers, Terry.

I'm on annual leave for Christmas, 3 glorious weeks of waking up late and letting my personal hygene take a holiday..........

So anyway, I was scratching around in my garage looking for something to do, and I spied my poor long-suffering Suzy GS1000E languishing in a dark corner where it's been since at least this time last year, so I thought I'd give it a birthday.

I built this bike from 2 wrecks a few years ago, but I've never had it on the road, apart from a few (illegal) short rides. I had ignition problems with it from day one, the donor bike that the "black box" had come from had spent it's previous 5 years in a seaside town, so the electrics had pretty much fallen apart due to the damp salt air corroding everything. About 2 years ago I fitted a NOS Martek 440 ignition and it ran much better, but I think the 30 year old OEM coils and leads are screwed and the leads are earthing on the frame and engine, so I think I'll buy some Dyna's for it, for some holiday fun.

Today I put the battery on the charger for a couple of hours, and while it was cooking away, I dumped the old fuel out of the carbs and tank, and refilled it with 95 octane premium. I re-installed the battery, pulled out the choke lever and hit the button. It didn't fire up right away, so I sprayed some fly spray (starting fluid) into the back of the airbox and hit the button again, and varoom-a! It lives! I seriously thought about taking it for a ride, but there's a police road blitz on until Christmas, so I just gave it a quick wash and did a couple of laps of my back yard.

After Christmas I'll get classic registration for it, so I can ride it 90 days a year for 100-odd bucks, which is much more affordable that 550 for a year, as I pay for my K1 each year. (I'll get classic rego for the K1 as well, while I'm at it) Cheers, Terry.

Hard to follow up with Terry and that Suzie post but since it is cold and snowy "UP' here thought I would continue with my Ghetto post and show a shot of my Hillbilly Hot Tank here.Two sets of carbs so far have been soaked and cleaned in good, real carb cleaner gallon dunk,  and a 72 has been pushed into the work zone for her first start up soon.Note the 3 in 1 oil as that gets put on every thread and moving part after cleaning. This one may be a keeper but as a hoarder I will say that every bike I have to sell because I am broke will start and make it on your trailer.  Wood please for the pooor-----

Terry,  550 a year to register a bike   How much does insurance cost on top of that?   I am not sure what I pay in PA but registration if less than 40 and insurance is maybe 80 for the minimum coverage.  I can also get a vintage registration that is 100, and that lasts forever but limits my useage. But I have been known to not comply   ...Larry

Here in Victoria we pay through the nose to register our bikes, the cost includes compulsory third party insurance, but you still need comprehensive insurance on top of that. I pay around $200 a year to insure my cafe racer for a set value of $8,000.

Today I put a stiffener plate behind the licence plate so I don't bend it each time I pull the bike cover on and off. One of those boring but important little jobs I needed to do.

Then I continued work stripping down the CB450 hubs - how the heck do you get the bearing dust cover plate off???

I think I also need to get myself a bearing puller soon, as I will be replacing all bearings over January.
