got a cb400f today with title for $100. started the tear down, it's got some pretty nasty carbs... the only thing that moves on the is the choke. But it'll be a fun little project.

Congrats!  Got pics?  Does it have that sweet 4 into 1 exhaust?

That does not sound like a little project.  It does sound like a fun project.  :)
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Finally dropped off the frame, swing arm, battery box and engine mounts off to the powder coater. Took me several weeks of going back and forth when deciding the color. Went with Bengal Silver with clear coat

Bummer-Never seen one broken there before.Since its kind of a clamp doesn't really need monster torque.  Hope you get it out OK.

Well....heat, penetrating oil, and an extractor....no go.  The extractor broke off.  >:(

This is on a CB175, so the bright side is that each one of these clamps bolts through the upper triple separately and I can just replace it without taking the whole front end apart....if I can find one that is.  Found some on eBay, but may wait til the salvage place opens up after the new year to check for a deal there.

...and I thought that the hard part of changing out a set of bars would be pulling the wires.   ::)

Well it was a beautiful day today, so after deciding that I was bored I dragged the old beast out for a ride. I needed to buy some fuel, and after reading in an Aussie bike mag that 98 RON fuel is a waste of money I decided that I'd try some 91, reasoning (probably quite incorrectly) that with the 9 litres of 98 RON fuel already in the tank, by adding another 8 litres of 91 RON fuel I'd end up with something like 95 RON?

Well, it ran, but lacked the power and response I'd hoped for, so I decided that "Spannerman" doesn't know #$%*, and continued on. I did my usual 50 mile lap, but decided that I needed more, so I headed up into the hills, to a beautiful little town called Kinglake. Kinglake was the site of one of the worst bushfires in Australian history a couple of years ago where much of the town was destroyed and many of it's residents were killed. It was good to see that the town is on the mend, and as pretty as ever.

I stopped for a beer at the Kinglake Pub, and shortly afterwards, some old desperado's on Harley's and Triumph's rode in. They were very interested in my K1, and we yakked for a couple of hours. It turned out that they had all owned CB750's at one stage in their lives, and they all wished they still had them. One of them still has the first Seeley CB750 in Oz, sadly he crashed it badly back in the 1970's, but he kept it in the hope that one day he'd get around to repairing it. I wish I'd gotten his phone number, I'd love to go thru his garage, he's got a lot of CB750 race parts that he bought back in the day, that are still sitting in boxes. Oh well, they don't live far from me, so hopefully I'll run into them again soon. All in all, a great day! Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Got it running on all 4 cyls. A pilot jet or 2 or 4 are pluged up again. bike just dies when you drop the rpm's.

Growls like a kitteh. ;D Revs fast too, just wont idle. Also running lean due to the air filter being orderd in and not in the bike. So much mechanical noise, I love it. Never had a bike with solid valves( or valves for that matter, grown up rideing 2 smokes).

When the parts come in, I've got more to Order. It's never ending. Hav put $200 into it sofar, and still havnt got to ride it.

I guess I wont be too sad to spend $500+ on it, only 7500 miles. i hope chicks dig it as much as I do. So much work to do, so little time.

Good ride Terry, I love the road from Kinglake back out to Flowerdale, then back through Strath Creek.

Sounds like I should not be running 91 RON in my bike, I will switch to the top end stuff next fill.

Did nothing on my bike today, except wish I was on it!

G'Day Cliff, yeah, try it out mate, my first F2 loved it, so you never know, it might make yours run better. My K1 pinged like a bastaard with the 91/98 mix today, oh well, it'll be of some use in the wife's Hyundai, I guess! ;D

Ha ha, yeah, I am a dumbass, the guy who has the Seeley also had a tired old Harley shovel that he said he was selling, which I would have loved to buy along with the Seeley and all the go fast parts. There is a faint ray of hope though, I've a feeling that one of the Triumph riders is a friend of Steve K0, so I might ask Steve for his contact details and see if I can't catch up with them again. No big rush though, I need to rebuild my finances after the annual Christmas blowout! Cheers, Terry. ;D

cranked the 650 and ran it up and down the street,  cranked the 550 which ran on 2 cylinders.  removed the plugs on 1 and 2 and cleaned the plugs with carb cleaner and a brush cranked it back up and voila 4 cylinders fired up

I received some parts in the mail, so I spent the afternoon in the garage working on the bike...

My recently installed clubmans would not allow my blinkers to fit on the original longer stems...so I ordered some shorty stems from Dennis Kirk that screw into the headlight bucket.  When I ordered them, I decided to splurge on a new set of reproduction blinkers.  My old ones were looking...well...old.

I also recently ordered a new chain and rear sprocket.  I forked out good money for a nice EK chain last time and it lasted about a season before showing signs of stretch. ::)  So, this time I opted for a cheaper alternative.  We'll see how it holds up.  Both sprockets were installed about a year ago and were in good shape, but I decided to try a 34 tooth rear to see if it helps with my gas mileage any.

As night fell, I decided to start the bike up for the first time in a few months and let it warm up.  Took a short ride around the block and put it back away.  It's supposed to be in the low 50s the next couple of days, so maybe I can get a ride in.   ;D

ive never liked how the standard coils jam the leads so close to the frame, those have a much better run.

Not today... but yesterday I pushed the fzr1000 outta the way, messed around with my carbs a bit and took the k3 out for a Christmas Day ride. Was happy to see that at least 3 other riders were as crazy as me to ride on the slippery streets at just above 0 degrees celsius :D
