Started one of my new 72 750's for the first time last night. Always one of those finger crossed moments to hear it run for the first time. This one had sat dormant for at least several years.Cleaned the carbs, set the valves, timeing, tuned up the cam tensioner by removing the screw divots on the ramp and made gasket, new oil, all the usual pre start stuff.  Started right up and all sounds very good. Did get the famous debri blowout at one muffler,a bunch of what looked like pumpkin seeds  :D   Well on to the next-------------

Didn't really do anything to my bikes, but I finally got around to assembling a set of carbs that I've had laying around in boxes for the last 2 years.  Although this weekend I'll probably wind up working on my cl350 so I can get ready to sell it. :'(

WOW!  I've been away for awhile. Six pages  to read just to catch up! :o  Not that I've been out of town or even been away from the Honda, just away from the computer.

To catch up, I did get the oil changed several weeks ago, but didn't get the clutch cable replaced then.  Had the cable, lubed the hell out of it too, just didn't have the time.  Suffered with real bad shifting and having to shut down the engine to shift into neutral.  Even rode into Flint on Christmas Day to my brother in laws for the family get together with the jury rigged clutch cable.  On the 26th I said enough was enough and tore into it.  WOW what a difference! :o  Runs like a new bike! ;D

What I did today was to ride it down to Goodrich and make a payment on the '73.  More than half mine now. 8)

Too hot here to work in the shed, so I wheeled my steel bench outside, set up the bench grinder and spent four hours polishing parts for the CB450.

That's four parts polished for the CB450 engine, and about another 12 to go! The oil filter cover is not too bad, a bit knocked about but polished up okay. The stator cover is a wreck, it has a big hole through it so I either need to get another one (at around $200) or make up a replacement part - possibly out of clear acrylic?

And yes - I decided to polish the POSA log manifold for the 750 whilst I was at it. If I am going to use it, then I might as well make sure it gets noticed.

Nice job on the polishing. By the looks of the intake - I'll assume you're running a blower or turbo  ;D   or ?

Nice work Cliff, and you've got more energy than me, I sat inside with the cooler on drinking Johnny Walker all day and fell asleep in my chair........... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

On the 26th I said enough was enough and tore into it.  WOW what a difference! :o  Runs like a new bike! ;D

My clutch cable was A OK.  Didnt feel the need to replace it  and than it cracked and i had to get a new one.  Now I just cannot believe how easy the clutch works.

A good opportunity to expand on your experience and pass this along. Often, cables that are otherwise low mileage and "well cared for" are actually in bad shape. They corrode internally from condensation cycles. This greatly increases their friction under load. Take them off and move them and they feel fine. Its the "under load" condition that proves it.

All the lube in the world will not fix this condition, only a new cable will.  This is a function of age, not so much use. When it was 1990, our CBs were at most 20 years old. Low mileage was still meaningful as gross age was still within limits.

But at a gross age of 40+, low mileage is nearly meaningless, age, gravity and condensation rule.

Went for a 100 mile ride.  It was in the mid 50's in beautiful, expensive Chester County.  While in Lancaster County I ran across an Amish tack shop.  Well, the zipper on my leather pants has been broken for a year or so (cannot ride when it is too cold as it gets sort of chilly down there :P). The young Amish man was in his front yard, working as they always do, and I asked him if he could fix it.  He said sure and that it would cost about $3.  Needless to say I left my pants there ::)...Larry

Well, since its now 42 minutes into the new year here in Michigan, yesterday I was sent out to the grocery store 4 times getting stuff for the festivities.  Of course I had to go on the Honda.  One time I didn't get my helmet off when she sent me back out for something she forgot to tell me to get before!  However I didn't get the bike covered up until after midnight so at least I did that to the bike today.
