rebuilt carbs installed electronic ignition cleaned tank started fabing up nitorous bottle brackets

For the 100th time I went and kneeled down with my flashlight and stared at my oil leak between #3and #4...dripping down the fins. Looks like it is a valve oil cap, however I figure if I keem going out to look at the ongoing drip day after day perhaps it will change into somthing I can fix without pulling the motor...since I just finished my build! and only have 12 miles on the clock...aarhh!

Spent a very long time cleaning my exhaust and have a very long way to go. It didn't help that one of the brass brushes I was using to remove the baked-on chain grime left scratches in the chrome which will take even longer to polish out

Maybe I should just sell my car and buy new hm341's

rode my new cb500 until i blew another 30 amp fuse. Any ideas? Don't know where to start.

Get a multimeter and a wiring diagram. Search the FAQ, and go from there - have fun

If it's a tach oil seal, then no problem, but if it's those pesky pucks, (and my money's on them, they always manifest as oil on the fins near the the exhaust ports) then it's engine out time, or just carry a rag where ever you go. Make sure you glue the new pucks in with a little non-hardening gasket sealant. Cheers, Terry.

...I bought myself another Honda 750.

Except this one is a 1988 VFR750F, all original, black with gold trim and 41,000km.

Now I just need to go on a long train trip to collect it!

Rebuilt the master cylinder. Took about 3 hours. 2 1/2 of those hours were trying to get that damn circlip out. My dad and I had this brilliant idea of forgoing the $4 circlip pliers and trying to get it out with an awl. Little did we know how TOUGH that thing is. Hardened steel or something? Didn't realize how tough it was until we opened up the rebuild kit and looked at the new circlip.

Still, we managed to break one of the ends of it off. Then the other. Awl turned into screwdriver, which turned into drill. No damage to the bore or seat for the clip. Did manage to break two bits and the tip of the screwdriver. The awl survived like a champ.

Then we went out and picked up a cheap set of circlip pliers.

That should do it. Worked for me. I have the same tool.

Often the area where the clip is, is full of gunk. Clean it really well to expose the circle ends of the circlip so your pliar gets a real good engagement.

The circlip may be corroded (stuck) into its groove. A little penetrant may help. WD-40, PB Blaster, etc.

Don't use that pair of circleclip pliers for the fork rings though. Was too lazy to go grab my heavy duty ones out of the cabinet once and the tip snapped off in an instant on the bigger rings

Yup. And further Stringbean, you can't see it in the picture so well, but those pliars have a curve built into them that allows them to go into the bore of the MC. Something standard clip pliars don't have.

Not sure if those are the Honda tool, but Honda sold a pair of circlip pliers specifically designed for the m/c. Not sure if still available but one of the best investments for tools I ever made....Larry

Project First Start-Part 3. I have posted a couple of threads here recently on a few 750's I bought earlier this winter and have brought back from the dead. The two 72.s went pretty smooth and worked out well.
The third and final in this trilogy is a Planet Blue 75 750. She is a real 'snotter' but for 150 bucks I couldn't pass it up."Ran when parked" Hmm-we'll see. First big disappointment was when I cracked the carbs open and 3 of them were filled with a white mush of corrosion.Stock airbox was on but water got in them,probably trash now,anybody ever get that corrosion off??, Pulled an extra set of carbs off the wall and cleaned,Hmm 75-76 F model,did not know that, they have those cool little gas filters in the needle holder. OK.
Cleaned points,set valves,serviced the cam chain adjuster,new plugs and oil and all that good stuff. Busy, busy.Mounted up the clean carbs and punched the starter button while me and a couple of Buddy's looked on and she roared back to life.No smoke and hitting good on all 4.Looks to run well.
Noticed it has an 80's throttle-switch controller but still uses 2 stock cables. At least the seat was OK. May do some kind of a build on it but a friend has been bugging me for a cheap candidate to do a Bobber after he is done with his 450. Should I let one go

I was bored since it is winter in the North and since I had almost a complete spare set of body work. I swapped them to totally change the look of the bike.

Winter is long up here.

[/quote] Hey Prospect. Not really into doing those full frame off resto's but I do highly respect the folks that do tackle those projects with all their time,money and focus. My idea of a keeper is a nice stock original paint,good running machine with a little patina, though those examples are getting harder to find nowadays.

rebuilding the caliper on the 550F. Phenolic piston, new seals and used the grease gun method to push the old piston out. I had a second caliper that I dismantled and wouldn't you know it the piston in it looked brand new.

I managed to miss the rain/snow mix that we were supposed to get. Rode in the rain both this morning and this afternoon. Supposed to get 1 to 2 inches of snow tomorrow, we'll see.
