Did you change the lenses? Most places require rear-facing running lights be red...

Well my friend did provide another 83 XS650 as a parts bike to get the other together so hopefully I have enough usable parts between the two to get it's alternator figured out. I did notice while researching it that permanent magnet alternator conversions is a popular alternative for the XS engines. Electrical definitely isn't my expertise but I can figure electrical issues out provided I have good info so I'm busy reading up on all the charging system test procedures for this particular bike.

Fitted the center stand to do some chaintenance after a 50 mile ride in the twisties

Changed the throttle return spring... AFTER getting carpel tunnel in just one short week of riding, plus my job. Either of those separately would've been fine, but doing them together caused it real fast.

The spring is now MUCH light. I can actually open the throttle with two fingers. I'm not sure how long the spring will last, but I'll post in about a week about it.

...took alle tree bikes, claned them and rode them.
The K0 was in winter sleep for ~1/2 Year, 2 kicks later it was running very good.

My oldest son finally saved the money needed to paint the tank and side covers for his 73 750 and the pieces are at the paint shop now. After that the bike just needs a few more things and on the road it will be.

got the forks ready..and put back on...theked the front hveel..it run heavy/tight/??hvat call you it.??.have to put a chimms behind the bearing to take the pressure of...to loosen bearings up

Nope. Too much effort to get that thing back on...even with the pennies stuck in there.

IM IN CAPS TODAY BECAUSE I CHARGED MY BATTERY ON THE 550K. I PLUGGED IN THE BATTERY. ATTACHED THE FUEL LINE FROM THE TANK TO THE PETCOCK. TURNED THE FUEL TO ON.....PUT THE CHOKE ON, AND VRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM........ I LET HER WARM UP FOR A FEW AND THEN TURNED THE CHOKE OFF AND WENT FOR A 5 MINUTE RIDE.......................

Rode the 500 in the hills

and ordered some gaskets from Honda: 2 gas cap gaskets, and 1 petcock seal..a quick twenty one bucks...

Rode to work this morning on a smooth flat level stone free road and watched my right wing mirror spontaneously crack.

Like - nothing hit it, there were no bumps in the road - it just went 'pop' very loudly and cracked in half.

It is one of a pair of replacement mirrors I only just got from the UK and fitted to the bike a week ago.

Oh no she didn't die. the kids came home from school. Bike ran like a top. Very pleased with her. Now I can't wait for a full riding season and having a bike that is ready to go. Last summer it seemed as if i had a bike in the shop all the time. This site has helped me learn how not to bring it to the shop and do the work myself.

I bought this POS motor quite a while ago and it's been a long term project.
Finally it's beginning to take shape.
It's now an 836 with quite a few mods inside and out.
The engine covers have been bead blasted and painted with Harley textured engine paint (with a Harley price tag) and overlayed with VHT Satin Black engine enamel.
