Congrats Lester!  I think you should disconnect the charger once you've gotten the bike started however.  My dad (a mechanic) taught me that.

I was too busy being happy.  ;D
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Rebuilt my forks, painted the front brake, installed front end except for brake caliper, installed new clubman handlebar, new chrome headlight and front turn signals.  Lubed and installed new chain.  Installed and adjusted rear brake.  Sat and looked at it for 2 hours over a few beers compiling a final to-do list.  Finally looking like a motorcycle once again.  :)
To Do:
Install NOS wiring harness
Install carbs & airbox
Install new clutch perch, cable
Install new throttle sleeve and cables
Sandblast exhaust collars and flanges
Install "new" used 4-2 exhaust
Start her up for the first time in 30 years.  :)

Question: How do you guys usually treat the exhaust flanges?  Paint? Ceramic? Powder?  or just blast and put back on?

I pulled the oil pump while I wait on my new clutch friction plates.  Disassembled it, cleaned it, put it back together and checked tolerances.  Everything was within factory specs.
Also picked up a righthand clutch case to use the clutch adjustment lever assembly, which is broken on mine.  I found it locally through eBay.  Cheap and good and pickup. . .can't beat that!
Current Bikes:

'76 XL350 - just picked it up, will be my forest road/camping machine
'77 CB550F - going to get it top-notch, like ride across the country top-notch, like it is 1980 and it has 12k miles with a loving, original owner
'82 CB900F - my (sometimes) daily rider

'74 RD350 - 6k miles, straight out of a barn, waiting for restoration

These old bikes are teaching me a big boat load!  I love 'em!

Installed my new hondaman ignition module and went out for an evening ride.
Amazingly easy install.

Recent upgrades:

Velocity stacks (Rejetted (still not big enough though) bike runs like crap for now)

Tarozzi rearsets. Takes a bit of getting used to, but they feel great.

$10 AutoZone special straight pipe.

Cafe seat is on it's way.

What size jets?

With those velocity stacks and that special straight pipe I imagine the jets would be 130 minimum (from my limited experience).

Well done Lester, I can't imagine why in hell you've not started that bike in 20 years so I'm gonna assume that you've just been released from prison, in which case, a double "congratulations" is in order! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

It's been dismantled for 20 years Terry. I stripped it to replace all the dodgy stuff then a lot of #$%* happened in my life so it went to the back boiler. I just got my drivers licence last October fgs.  Thank you all.

Ha ha, well done mate, it looks great, and it's fantastic that you've literally "Picked up the pieces" and got it back on the road again.  ;D

I'm pretty stoked, I ordered some big expensive bits online for my BMW R100RS very late last Thursday night from "Motorworks" in Britain, and incredibly, they were were waiting for me on my arrival home tonight! I was hoping to have them by Friday, but Tuesday? Awesome! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Broke the rivet pin on my new chain rivet tool. >:(
Never fun to break a tool winthin 30 min of getting it.
But a new pin is on the way to replace it and I managed to get the chain riveted before it broke. Just getting a new battery, sealing the tank, minor reassembly work, and paper work and I am on the road. ;D

Drained the old gas out of the tank on my new (to me) CB750F

Also put her up on the center stand for the first time.  Just about scared the life out of me.  I'm used to handling a Ninja 250... this bike has a few pounds on the Ninja!

I'm just a noob here, but I'm already excited!

Yesterday I set the valves and synched the carbs. Today I'll kick the tires and light the fires!! Then I'll probably clay it and wax it!!

If you roll the rear tire onto a piece of scrap wood about one inch thick, it will go on the center stand much easier. I usually lay a board in front of the rear tire and roll the bike on to it, it will lean much farther over to the side stand at that point, so it's better to just go right to the center stand and not bother with the side stand after it's on the board. Even better to have someone stand by on the other side of the bike the first time or two.

Since the weather here in Ohio has taken a decidedly chilly turn, I took the seats off my 74 and 77 cb550's and repaired tears with fishing line.  Broke 3 needles in the process but saves me about $80 each on replacement seat covers.  Not perfect but it'll do.

I'm using 120 mains. I originally bought them to use with pod filters. The pipe is just temporary. I'll be fitting a real slip-on on it, I just need a pipe made.
