Absoloutley GORGEOUS here in KC area yesterday. Rode all over town and did all of the twisty bits of the suburbs. Ran through the tankful of regular gas that I tried just to see how it would run. Discovered that it ran ok for the most part...but at the ragged edges like red line and long periods of idle...that there is a difference when using premium...idled the same rpm but somehow smoother stronger with the premium and at high rpms 9k+ it would get ragged and struggle where with premium it would just keep winding...oh...also did a little work on straightening my quater fairing...its all nice and even now. Also looks great now after the pressure wash monsoon expressway ride of last week...dried it off and resulted that it just gleams like never before now in the brilliant sun...Good Times!!

Managed to strip out two threads on a carb body. I'm pretty sure it was because the gasket got pinched and was putting extra pressure on the screws. Tried to fix it by safety wiring the two holes, but I'm pretty bad at it, and now the carbs drip a bit of fuel. So now when I'm riding, there's a powerful smell of gas. One thing after another just keeps going wrong -.-

Also got my cushion for my DCC cafe seat. Will have a different mounting solution this weekend and put the cushion on. The cushion seems pretty high quality (it better be, for the price). Great finish on the top, and even molded to the shape of the seat's fender humpy thing.

Did you go with the plastic smushy like seat like mine or an actual upholstered one?

If you went with the e I have, its pretty uncomfy after 20 miles. I am already looking at another set up for a seat.

My mounting has been perfect though. I have been able to remove the seat several times to "make adjustments to other issues" with the bike and works like a charm. Great 2 dollar investment.. Seat doesn't budge at all...

Yeah I went with the one they sell for it (like yours). I'm still using the stock hinge and lock, and it still looks like crap. I bought some of those rubber/metal cable clamps but haven't put them on yet.

The cushion can't be THAT uncomfortable. I've been riding without a cushion 35mi at a time. Other than my kidneys coming apart, it's not that uncomfortable :P

HAHA I did my first long ride with the seat on Monday... I have one kidney only and I felt like I was getting punched on it after the 50 mile range. Still, the seat is really good quality I feel for the price.

Made some inserts for my K & N pods to help with air flow until I can afford good stuff like anti-pods.  It starts better, smoother idle, and yes, took it out on the highway.  The issue on the highway was one of leg position vs. air to carbs.  Simply, if I had my legs up on the pegs, at 75-85 it lost power before.  If I put my legs straight out on the too-high highway pegs it ran fine.

Got the cb550f up to 80, and this was gone tonight.  Tried all sorts of things to recreate the issue, gone!  Oh, and I should scrape the bugs off after a near 800 mile round trip on it too, heh.

Rode it! Yep, my "Winter Bike" is officially on the road. I took all the paperwork to the "VicRoads" office (DMV) and after only waiting 15-20 minutes I paid my 129 bucks and got my "Red Plate". (Club Registration)

It was pretty cold and the forecast was for rain, but by the time I got home and attached the plate there were only a few clouds about, so I packed my wet-weather gear into the panniers and took off.

I stopped for fuel and forgot how big the tank is on this thing, so by the time I'd topped up" the tank it had 20 litres of 98 RON gas in it, and I was 32 bucks poorer. Anyway, I continued on up to Kinglake.

I noticed this abandoned gas pump on the side of the road and wondered if this is the remains of a gas station that was destroyed in the "Black Saturday" bushfires that killed 42 people and destroyed many homes and businesses, in February 2009.

I continued on to one of my favourite watering holes, the Kinglake Pub. Last time I was up here it was really hot and I'd just limped in on my K1 after blowing the head gasket during some "spirited" riding. (that was a bad couple of days, I had the output shaft bearing collapse on my Triumph Rocket III the next day, which cost me $2200 to fix)

This time around, the BMW ran faultlessly, and I warmed myself by the open fire in the pub while I downed a cold cider. Something hot would have been nice, but their coffee machine was out of action, so no biggie.

King Lake is situated up in the hills (around 2000 feet elevation) so I had a ball chasing cars down the hill on my way home. For it's "Maiden Voyage" I was really happy with it, the only issue I noticed (for the first time) is that the front fork springs have sagged really badly, so I'll order some new ones tonight, the new Ikon shocks were fantastic, but the front forks let it down. No biggie though, I had a great ride! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Nice Beemer Terry. Never had one new or older model, but have always heard there top of the line bikes, very high quality. What bike do you prefer. CB750 or BMW. How do they compare in a head to head comparison-quality, ride , power etc.

Beutiful job Terry. Is that the original paint? If not thats as good a respray as ive seen. Every bmw ive had seemed to have that little squish /dive in the front end. Ive always just lived with it as the progressives are not too popular from what ive read

Ha ha, thanks guys, I'll be diplomatic and just say that they all have their endearing qualities. I've now got bikes with 2 cylinders, 3 cylinders and 4 cylinders and they all have something unique to their design brief that interests me. My latest bike will just about always be my favourite bike, but that "favouritism" wears off as soon as a new project comes along, regardless of who made it.

Brad, the paint isn't original, but is quite well done. The tank is actually off an R90S, so maybe that was the inspiration for the "R90S style" paint job, by the time the R100RS came along BMW had decided that this paint scheme was too expensive, and had reverted back to single color schemes, with the exception of a couple of "Two Tone" schemes, but no "fade to black" options like mine.

I installed progressive springs in my first R100RS with success, and I've got a pair of NOS progressives for another bike sitting in a box which I think (but don't know for sure) may fit. Whatever happens, I need new springs, the originals are toast! Cheers, Terry. ;D
