Finally got my intake/exhaust set up relatively close to normal. Running velocity stacks with screens and a 4-1 Two Brothers Racing exhaust (modern carbon fiber weave can, came from a crashed CBR1000RR). Headers are MAC 4-1, midpipe goes from 2-1/4" to 2". Jets are 110/38. Pilot screws are 1-1/4 turns out. Fires right up with very little throttle and no choke. Idles low, but doesn't die. 1/4 to WOT pulls strong. Still feels like it's a bit stumbly, just barely, between closed and 1/4 (and not just because there's no accelerator pump). Sure it's not as perfect as it would be with the stock airbox and I probably have no noticeable hp/torque gains, but it sounds nice and looks good. I fixed the last of the problems after my test ride this morning. I found that my #4 exhaust collar was missing a nut, and one nut was backed off halfway. Replaced all the nuts with shiny new ones, torqued em down pretty good, and used high temp thread locker. Idled smoothly after that :)

I still can't really read the plugs though because they're getting oil fouled -.-

Did a compression test. Numbers were about 20psi lower than they were about six months ago. Read 115-125 today.

Cleaned 12 years of chain lube off the the hub and chain area of my '02 VFR.  First time since I've owned it that the cast aluminum hub has been silver and not black.  Polished the Staintunes and hit the chain guard and rear fender with some Back to Black

12 years... '02... Even if it was build in 01 it'd have to be 2013 for that to be true ;D

The other day I wiped off 38 years of chain grime off my hub. I know it was 38 years worth because it was brand new underneath :P

I finally started sorting through the parts I got from Terry and cleaning a little. I still need to buy tools. Can you believe I've been here for a little over 3 months and still haven't even bought a real screwdriver. Someone put me in the corner of shame.

Filled the gas tank and went for a ride. On thursday's at the A&W is an old bike meet, turned out at 43 years old I was the youngest guy there with the oldest bike, everyone else was in retirement age with new bikes and no one was interested in my 78 CB550. They were just standing around admiring eachothers new bikes. This world is getting very strange!

So, are you disappointed that those old farts didn't come over and admire your bike mate, or that the old farts kind of ignored you? I think that there's a myth that pervades thru sites like this, that every bike built in the 1970's was a classic and deserves the "oohs" and "aahs" of anyone from that era.

I bought my first CB750 new in 1978, but (even though I know they're a capable bike) I'm not a fan of 550's, and I wouldn't cross the street to look at one. Your bike looks great and as long as you love it, who cares that no-one else was all that interested in it, you didn't buy it to impress other people, did you? Cheers, Terry. ;D

Ok another button pusher...here we go: No Terry I don't stand by my bike waiting to have my ego stroked. I don't go to bike meets hoping all the attention is around myself or my bike. I go to "old bike meets" to talk to other people with simular interests and hopefully learn something...hence the nature of this site. If you had a harley and went to a harley meet only to find everyone else arrived on jap speed bikes and no one would engage you in a conversation because you showed up on a harley, I think if you posted on a harley forum that you found it odd you'd be justified. As for your opinion on 550's I really could care less...I'm not that narrow minded I appreciate all motorcycles regardless of make or size. They all give us the same feeling.
I have  4 bikes one of them being a crotch rocket and I don't take it to old bike meets for obvious reasons. Did I mention "old bike meet" OLD BIKE MEET Terry get it.
Ok your turn...prove me right that your a #$%* disturber criticize me or better yet "relaxe mate I'm just having fun."

 ;D ;D  Got a bite there Terry.... 8)

Ha ha, I'm guessing that the reason that the old farts didn't talk to Steven is because Steven has anger management issues Mick, I wonder if he works for the US Postal Service? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Anger management issues"...haha nice one Terry. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. I think you've taken offense to me mentioning the other riders were in their retirement age thinking that was some sort of criticism when it wasn't.

Anyone on here first needs to be warned of 2 things first. #1 to use the search function first before asking questions and #2 do not take offense at Terry. Pay attention to his knowledge but not his sarcastic dry sense of humor. I understand him and that because we are brothers from different continents and we both have fetishes for roos  ;).

Hell, talking about retirement age, he's OLD too! He is working on a 750 wheel chair F model.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Replaced exhaust gaskets and went on a quick ride, about 7 miles, no popping on deceleration.

Bead blasted & painted the battery box from the XS650.
Spent some time looking it over closely.
I was thinking about getting it runnable pretty much as-is but the more I look at it the more I think it needs a restore. Even just cosmetic rust on the frame drives me crazy!
All the aluminum needs polished, the black-oxide hex bolts installed by the PO need replaced, needs tires, bearings, bushings, carb kits, brake kit, etc. Old bikes are seldom as much of a deal as they appear... ::)

BUT if it's gonna get a restore it's going to have to wait until I address the long-waiting CJ360T....
So it's the CJ360T now and the XS650 later. And the '73 CB750 much later apparently. :-\
Meh.
I think I'll go for a ride! :)

I say restore the 650 and hold off on the 360. What are you going to do with the 360, that bike is too small for you!?

I may yet change my mind, but I'll bet there's a cute girl out there somewhere who would fit that 360 just fine.... ;)

Just picked this up today for a song and dance.  First thing i did was remove that hideous exhaust and seat, because i couldn't stand looking at it when I was in my garage.  Runs good, just needs some minor parts (aside from the exhaust) to bring it back to original.  That's what I did today!
