Put my new tires on, put my freshly shaved seat on. (Shaved a few inches of foam out of the rear to make it sit even) Put my speedo on the bracket I modified yesterday. And mocked up my new taillight on a GS550 front fender that I'll be cutting up and putting on tomorrow.

Clean, lube and adjust chain (that's why God made rainy days) ;)

Same, except it wasn't raining and it was 10pm.

Just getting ready for some dyno pulls tomorrow.

Haha of course, I wouldn't leave ya'll hanging. I KNOW the low end will be complete #$%*, because my points need replacing and there's something wrong with advance, but the upper end feels nice and strong.

Went from "Blue Bummer errrt I mean Bomber" to the "Black Dahlia." Rattlecan job for a 400 dollar bike. Going to put on a sporty tank, but for now I saved thr flames on the tank. Also took the paint off what ended up being nice chrome.

Rainy Day  - Did the 3,000 Mile Tune up, replaced the plugs / Sync'ed the carbs.  By the way, anyone know if there is actually a carb. sync tolerance spec? I settled for readings between 24 and 25 on the gauges, (not sure what units the gauges are in).   How close are you generally able to get them?

Looks good mate, although I liked the blue too. Are they forward pegs you've mounted in front of the engine? They'd be hard to use with those low bars, wouldn't they? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I added baffles to my open pipes.  It solved two problems. First the bike was just obnoxious to the point that I couldn't even idle through my neighborhood without bothering my neighbors.  Second it solved my jetting problem just off of idle. Bike runs great now.

Looks incredibly low. You don't bottom out the rear? Only lowered an inch in the front it seems..? Or is that an inch and a half, I can't tell from this angle?

Is there a law against unintentional vehicular suicide? Oh well, if nothing else, the owner might win a Darwin award.............;D

Terry,

There just pegs, not controls. Its a thick steelbar that attaches to the frame. Id love forward controls, but too mich $$$. Its not too bad with low bars but I enjoyed it on the interstate.

Yeah, but no biggie when there's no caliper attached.............  ::)

Hey Fire. What year is the engine you were just working on ? Noticed the extra 8 bolts  that hold the round rocker shafts from spinning in the cam towers used on the later engines.

Dimitri- It's lowered 4 1/2" in the front, and 2 1/2" in the rear. Springs are cut 3" with spacers added, and then brought the tubes through the trees another 1 1/2".

Yes the rotor got some over spray on it when painting the wheel, which will come right off when the caliper goes back on. Waiting for my new line.

It's not nearly as low as a lot of bikes on the road, so I fail to see how it's a 'death trap.' It handles really well and still goes over huge bumps/pot holes just fine.

Over the winter it will be getting a hardtail and coming down another ~2" in the back. Will be able to get rid of the ratty seat, and gross pipes too. Everything will get stripped and painted for real.

I've ridden the "deathtrap" a good 1,000 miles that low so far and everything has been fine. Even on #$%*ty Pennsylvania roads.

Hi ekpent,

...I is a K0 engine, I thought the same as I took off the valve cover! may be they changed/swapped  the cam towers.
That Bike is one of the very last K0, have to look in the papers but I think it was ~120 numbers before K1 starts.

And trying to decide what I will do with this 550F I picked up the other day. Came with a sidecar and spared titled frame too.

>>PERK<< Sidecar?
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.
