I began cleaning the bullet connectors, starting with the five coming off of the alternator. Three of them had gotten hot enough to partially melt their plastic sleeves. To clean inside the female connectors, I wrapped fine sand paper around a piece of coat hanger wire. And I applied dialectic grease before reconnecting anything.

Took my CB400F for a short ride -- was a very nice day, would've loved to have gone for a long ride, but alas, I only had a short time, and a short ride is better than no ride.

It is supposed to be in the mid-60's here tomorrow, but  the wife works tomorrow, so I'm hoping to get my 8 year old daughter a play date so dad can do a longer ride tomorrow.   Otherwise, I'll try to spend a little time polishing some fenders on my other 400F.

Took my bagger (Road King) for a ride. Mid 70's today, but windy as hell(20-35+mph). Still nice to get a ride in, tho. Plan on working on my K3 cafe project tomorrow.

Rode the K5 100 miles and burned 5+ gallons of gas.  Mileage has gone to heck since I upsized the jets.
Need to back 'em off a bit.
It was also very windy today. :P
Went by Horsepower Farm in Austin. Lots of people and bikes there. Ran into the PO of my K5.

And I saw this, CB100 with a Chinese Lifan engine.  Bolts right in!

Went for a ride and put a couple kms on the new avons, rides like a new bike. Can't wait to really break them in, they grip way more than my old spitfires and what a difference going to a 120 rear wheel from a 130. The old beast goes in and out of a turn so smoothly, very pleased.

Sweet! Lifan, I believe, were building engines and components under license from Honda, and I was surprised when my mate Jeff (Ace Motorcycles) told me that they're not bad quality, I presumed that they were junk. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Busy, busy busy now guit loafing around drinking fine grade Scotch and get them dam# fork seals in Terry.    ;D

Okay, I took your advice Eric and got up early, stripped my forks, cleaned all the goop out, then wire wheeled all the corrosion and crap of the fork sliders, buffed them to give them a bit of a shine, machined up an alloy seal driver, smacked the new seals in, re-assembled them, tipped in some new oil, re-installed my right caliper, bled the brakes, and went for a ride. Phew.

It's still breaking down between 5000 and 7500 RPM, but once past that hurdle, it screams up to it's 9750 RPM redline. Weird. I noticed that one coil has been replaced, and as I reckon I was very thorough cleaning the carbs yesterday, I'm wondering if it's an ignition problem. Before I get too excited, I'll pull the petcock and see if it's not partially blocked, there's an inline filter though, and it looks pretty clean. Oh well, I'll work it out, eventually............ ;D

I replaced my K3 750s' crappy after-market ignition switch, which makes this the third switch in less than two years, and then took her  for a fast paced two hour ride.   I had the key fall out of the switch while I was riding the Blue Ridge Parkway last weekend when I had stopped to put on my rain gear, the damn key was gone! Of course I always carry a spare, so I did make it back to Atlanta. Those OEM switches are pricey so I'm stuck with these cheap one until I save up enough for a real one!

How much are you really saving if you keep having to replace the cheap ones?   Surely, you can get a reasonably priced used one on eBay, or even from a forum member here -- someone has to have one from a parts bike.

I think that switch was about $20. I'll troll the site to see if I can find a real one before this one fails

Rode my 750K4 as part of a Veteran's Day service.  Beautiful day here in Southern Michigan!

And to all the veterans of all the world, whether you call today Veteran's Day, Armistice Day or Rememberance Day, on this the 11th day of the 11th month, I thank you for your service!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Yes, there was a time when we thought the same thing about Japanese stuff too. ;)

With CNC as it is today it must be pretty easy to knock out something as simple as 40-year-old SOHC single!

I finally got my #3 carb to stop barfing gas and hold a proper float level, about goddam time too...

I've had this same problem on my friend's bike.
I've even swapped the float, pin, and needle with no luck. The towers are fine and not rounded out at all.
I'm without a clue.

I had the same problem on a CB750 recently mate, it turns out one float arm was slightly bent, and the float was getting snagged on the inside of the float chamber, holding the float valve open, and flooding gas out of the airbox. It was an easy fix, once I realised what the problem was. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I thought that might be my issue at first but it's not. My problem seems to be whatever floats I put in there, even after setting the float height, they will move. So, say I set the height at 25mm-26, in a week they'll be at 21-22mm. I've had 3 different floats do this. I'm a little stumped.

Plastigaged all my engine bearings, for clearance, on my K3 Cafe project. All were about .00175 (using "green" bearing shells), so I think I need "black" bearings to get my oil clearance down, to the .001 range. Anybody think that sounds right?

I replaced the master cylinder on my 400 with a reproduction m/c from David Silver. The cost of the replacement m/c was not much more than a rebuild kit, and nobody has f****d with it.
