I discovered an oil leak on my beautiful CX500 when I was over at Cliff's place today, that'll teach me for re-using a 32 year old clutch cover gasket! I better go fix it while I think about it. Later! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

But whilst you were over at my place you and I were able to get the CB450 head torqued down and the cam chain on - so thanks heaps Terry, no way could I have done it without you (and thanks for the excellent instruction in how to use a torque wrench).

Lesson of the day, I need to carefully inspect my cams for timing alignment marks.

The casting mark is not the timing alignment mark (we found that out after fitting the chain the first time and turning the engine over slowly until a valve hit a piston - uh oh).

The timing mark is in fact that carefully drilled little hole in the edge of the cam (second time around we got it right).

So now all I need to do is set the cam follower clearance, fit the cam covers and then the engine can go into the frame.

yep, absolutley turn any engine youve assembled even if your familiar with them by hand slowly a few cycles before you punch that starter button!

Or as my sensei Terry explained to me "before you go standing on the kick start with both feet bouncing up and down wondering why it won't turn over whilst you slowly bend a valve..."

There is nothing like having someone beside you whilst you work on your bike who has done it all before.

Oh and Terry,

When are you coming back to clean up that oil your CX500 left behind?

 ;D ;D ;D

Ha ha, I parked it in my driveway and left it to cool down, then trudged outside a little while ago to pull the clutch cover off again and seal the gasket, and......... no leak? Not even a drop of oil still clinging deperately underneath the engine, trying to get back inside?

Hmmnn, either the slope of my driveway sent all the oil to the back of the engine, or the stuff that dripped on your concrete has just pooled underneath my engine and dribbled on your path? Anyway, I'll keep an eye on it and if I find any drips under the engine I'll fix it then. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Either that - or you just happened to park over one of my oil leaks and thought it was yours!

front is nearly finished on my cb350f project:  sanded/painted the triples, wheel hub, caliper and headlight bucket, polished everything else, new fasteners here and there, new fork seals, brake pads and caliper seal.  freshly painted (3 coats of enamel) wheel hub cured outside all day in 40+ temps (and sunny ;D) and is now finish-baking over the wood stove.  just now finished polishing the rim.  forgot to take a pic of the spoke pattern (doh!) so i gotta find a pic.  prob lace the wheel after work sometime this week.  ss spokes look killer.

Finished up cleaning the carbs, speedo/tach and bunch of random parts that needed some TLC. A little bit of Nevr-Dull goes a long way!

And the Trumpy is an inline four - so I am still staying a little true to form.

Probably has more than one cam though...

sat -- polished the rim, sanded/painted the hub.  sun -- laced the wheel.  dead-nutz side-to-side, but off 1mm up and down.  will improve that tonight.
