Today I decided that the "H Box", on my CX500 which connects the headers underneath the engine, but also works like an additional muffler, and doesn't work well with the 34mm Mikuni carb mod, is history, and I removed it. I replaced it with some 1 3/4" exhaust tubing. It doesn't look like I had to do much, but in fact it was a PITA, why did Honda decide to use 2 different OD tubes at either end of the "H Box"?

Anyway, armed with some straight tube and a couple of 22.5 degree bends, I was able to make two centre sections to link the stock header to the stock mufflers that I "ventilated" last week. I do have some nice aftermarket reverse cone megaphones coming, probably next week, but I couldn't wait any longer, and the new mufflers will work with my setup, when they arrive.

I took it for a 70 mile ride, and what a revelation, as Larry unkindly opined a week or two ago, a stock CX/GL500 is a bit of a slug, but with the Mikunis and a freer flowing exhaust system, it now flies! It has a really light throttle, instant throttle response, and clean acceleration right up to the 9750 RPM redline. I had a ball, and it was only when I decided that I needed an icy cold beer that I decided to turn for home. All in all, a great day! Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Nice covers,  what did that set you back if you don't mind me asking?...Larry
$55 a piece, but then they gouged me on shipping.  All in, it was $140 to my doorstep.  But they were VERY well-packaged.  Interesting tidbit:  They don't do PayPal or plastic, so I had to have a money order ready for Mr. UPS guy.  I didn't know COD was still a "thing".

Oh, and I got the aftermarket ABS plastic covers from Z1.  They're a better bet because they're glossy & smooth in their raw form; OEM fiberglass covers probably wouldn't come out as nice because they're so clunky... or at least mine are.

Nice! Is that a K engine in that F2 chassis? I like the pipe too, where'd that come from? Cheers, Terry. ;D

i believe it is Terry.   The pipes were made by a friend of mine.  the tip is just a megaphone cut off and put on backwards.   It sounds great.

The clear on the tank of my '73 RD350 was starting to peel, so had my buddy shoot some clear on the tank [he has a paint room in his backyard].
The paint is original and looks fantastic for 40 years old. Now am restoring the tank badges...

How do you like the RD Stev-o? When I was debating on getting a 400 I watched a few videos of friends racing their 400 v. rd350.. RD blew it away.. Bike looked pretty quick...

Like it a lot, plan to get it back on the road next month. My buddy had one, I was amazed how quick it was. This one is a pretty good example, 11K miles, original paint and perfect seat and exhaust. Needs a petcock but just found one on MikesXS for $25.  Bad old pic, if you look close you can see peeling clear on top of tank that was just addressed.

I have fond memories of riding on the back of my mate Huey Bowdens R5 (RD350's pre-decessor) in 1975 (we were both 15) @ 105 MPH, wearing only shorts and T shirts one hot summer. Huey and his R5 are both deceased now sadly, but those memories will last me a lifetime. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I hope the R5 did not do him in?

I knew the RD came after the R5, but what were the differances? Looks the same except for the graphics.

Ha ha, seriously Larry, my CX is more like a little Italian sportsbike than an overweight Japanese commuter now, it's a pleasure to ride. My mate John has a Turbo, so I need to beg a ride on it to compare, but my next big spend on it will be a CX650 engine, which (with a few minor mods) will give it around 80 BHP, with no additional weight or complications like turbo's, ancient Honda electronic fuel injection technology, "turbo lag", etc. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Yep, Huey's bike was the same color as that one Steve, what a great bike! I don't know what the differences were, but they would have only been minor. Huey went through the grill of a Kenworth on his Harley in the 1980's I'm told, I lost contact with him when I joined the Army in 1977. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Not sure but I think the RD had reed valves and the R5 was straight inlet.  I also had the R5 at one time-one fine little bike ;)...Larry

Not a Honda but went over to a Guys place and bought out the rest of his GT750 stash at a very good price.Picked up a good engine, carbs, pipes, seat and a couple totes of other goodies.Pickled it and put it away for now.The bad thing is now I have to shop for a good roller with a blown engine.  ::)

Nice Eric, is that an "L", or "M" engine with CV carbs? A lot of guys used to build "The perfect GT750" by installing the later engine in the earlier (J or K) chassis, giving it the much more attractive earlier styling, with the more powerful later model engine. Good pickup! Cheers, Terry. ;D
