I had similar bad luck with my FJ not long into ownership. The only time in the most recent 7 years of riding that I have gone down. For me it was a combo of older tires, excessively late braking and a 90 degree left hand turn over reflective striping at a cross walk. Back wheel slid right out from under me.

No damage to me, a scrape on the shoulder of my motorcycle jacket, and a cracked cover over the oil pump (on the right side where the points are on an SOHC4).

Made some more progress today with the disassembly, rear fender, grab rail, that ugly non-stock thing over the grab rail, horn, coil/wire/boots and tool tray. Went on to unscrew the battery case and noticed that its sitting pretty tight in there. Do I have to remove all the electrical mess under the left side cover first? Or will it shake loose once all four screws are out?

You will see that some of the components detach off the box. Rectifier off, that front section will slide up and off too. Probably gonna be a little stuck but you gotta do that to pull it out

Nah, don't let my misadventures put you off Brian, the FJ is a brilliant bike, with 130 BHP it's still one of the quickest "Sports Tourers" around, and as near as dammit to being bullet-proof. If I crossed off all of the bikes that I've fallen off over the years, it'd be a really small list......... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

new front tyre, then a little ride to scrub it a little,i always scrub them down with say jiff abrasive cleaner first anyway, ive run sport demons a few times over but i thought id try dunlops for a change, the demons wear scalloped on the front, and they seem to "peel" in a section,my seller says its in the mold and not delaminating,i could feel the scallop when leaned over, not obvious in the photo,i like the demons though!this new front is the arrowmax"street smart"whats in a name?they come in imperial 18 and 19 aswell.
scalloped demon.

new dunlop.

gotta watch the eight wheelers coming down the hills during the week!keep well left.

I don't quite have the set up for that. Besides, once I clean the underside enough, I was going to treat it with one of eastwood's rust converters and underbody coatings. Chrome on the visible side it pretty solid with minuscule pitting here and there, nothing a good chrome polish won't block out.

Had a great ride on the K8 last Sat, about a 60 miler on some great roads with 4 other vintage bikes up to "The Rock" [2 other CB750's, a CB550 BMW and a newer Honda]. Hadnt ridden this one in 6 months or so but ran great as I led the pack.

Then Sat night, I went to fire it up and it was totally dead. WTF?!  Pecantree pulled out his voltmeter at the campground, 12.6V, check. Pulled out fuses and ohm'd out, check. WTF?!  F it, rode the 550 Sunday morning.

Figured it had to be the switch, so just pulled it out and after jiggleing the wires, I have lights!

Although it ran great, I did have a minor fuel leak, thinking its a sticky float.
Wasnt going to let that stop me!

Sacrificed the front end of my bike to a truck that pulled out in front me. Details in the project section. I walked away without any blood shed or bone broken. Ego hurts. Wishing I had two bikes!

Over to that section to check out the story but yes that is the reason I keep an extra bike or two around, always nice to have a spare. Hope you are OK though, bikes can be fixed.  Eric
