Ordered new tires, tubes, rim strips, coils, wires, and started wiring in my headlight power relay. :)
Picked up a nail the day before my ride to St Pete for a vintage bike show.

 ;D I had a Yamaha like that the engine didnt like going.. bloomin heavy when you have to push em!

In other news I rode mine for 15miles today, the first time it has done a decent distance in 30+ years... Felt awesome I was grinning all the way!

More disassembly, rear foot pegs, rear shocks, and with some wrestling, the rear wheel came off. Rearranged the garage a bit, hoping to tear apart the rear wheel tomorrow and figure out the damn grinding issue.

yeah its the cheap heat proof paint in a spray can for stoves etc,ive used the VHT brand stuff to the letter with all the prep and primer etc,lasted a few months maybe every time!this stuff goes 18 months straight over bare clean steel.

Welding aluminum was an art that I thought had eluded me. I bought a special torch for my MIG but it was unsatisfactory, so I bought a TIG but I just made a mess with that, so this week I bought another MIG with a "Spool Gun" after watching some youtube vids.



I'd managed to make a mess of repairing Mike's top case where the rear mount had been busted off, so the new welder was my best hope. Luckily it works brilliantly, and I was able to fill the hole I'd burned in the top of the case beautifully.



A bit of grinding, a bit of milling, and after some sanding tomorrow, the cases will be ready for stripping and fresh paint. Woohoo! ;D

Oil pump refreshed with new 46mm cover orings and elans oil pump stopper seal and oring kit.

Found out that I must have disturbed my cam towers on reassembly. Steady weeping at #1 cylinder, makes me think wrestling with the cam I must have lost

It is a shame because it fires right up at 1500 on full choke. Smooth too. Back to the drawing board, hopefully most gaskets won't need replacing, shouldn't anyway

Where's the weep?

At the headgasket level, maybe retorqing will solve it. Above the head gasket level, then pucks, or cam tower hold down studs need freshening.

In either case no major gaskets needed.

Thanks Edward, I should have mentioned that I've got some of that stuff too, but I can never get it to work. Have you tried it? Might be good for small stuff, but I wouldn't trust it for anything critical. Cheers, Terry. ;D

It is a pretty slow but steady drip from near the head. I was too disgusted to investigate I just left it

Not much today, I couldn't stand looking at my grass growing over the neighbours fence, so I was confined to yard duty all day.

I did however, pull out the shiny new 17 inch wheels that I'm gonna modify to fit my Yamaha FJ1200, which, being a victim of the 1980's was fitted with silly 16 inch wheels fore and aft, which are hard to find good sticky rubber for nowadays, not to mention that the new 5 spokers look cool! ;D

More disassembly, trying to tear down the wheels and stuck in a couple places. Please see project thread to help. Another headache I've been having is with the speedometer cable. The screw holding it in place on the wheel side isn't in great shape and its not budging. Any tips on how to get it loose? Soaked it in PB blaster for hours with no result. Will try heat next, this is turning out to be as bad as my front brake.

Use more heat and penetrant and if you take gentle swings with an impact it will let go. I would try shocking it with a regular screwdriver first though. Those screws usually are pains tho. If you use the impact just be careful or you will be posting in the classifieds section
