Well I woke up this morning (which is always a great way to start the day, or perhaps, a blues song) and wasn't sure what I wanted to do. The sun was shining, it was around 75 degrees, and I needed to do some bike stuff.
I had to do some banking, so after that I dropped into Ace Motorcycles to bum a cup of joe and a cigarette off Jeff, and he pointed me at my next project bike, a 1987 Yamaha FZR1000. I've wanted once since new, but they were always pretty thin on the ground here, so hopefully the owner will accept my offer, and it'll be in my garage soon.
Speaking of my garage, sadly there's not enough room for another bike, so I'll need to move one on. My 1987 FJ1200 is a great bike, but if any has to go it'll be it, so I need to do some work on it to make it sell-able. It's in generally good order, but the previous owner admitted that he'd done no maintenance in 5 years, and only did a couple of thousand miles in that time so the battery was clagged, the front brake discs are screwed along with the pads and fluid, it needs an oil and filter change, a seat cover, and few other bits to bring it back up.
Once I got home I started with replacing the discs. The original discs were lightweight ventilated things, and wore out in 30,000 miles. The ones I replaced them with are solid ones from our Chinese friends via eBay, they were cheap, but they look the goods, so hopefully they'll be OK.
The good thing about being on vacation is that I don't have to rush, so I'll leave the brake pad replacement until tomorrow as I want to give the calipers a good clean first. I washed up and fired up the barbecue, and cooked the last of the Christmas meat. All the steaks had gone, but there were burgers, snags and hamsteaks, and washed down with lots of beer, a fine repast. Cheers, Terry.
