My '77 DT175E has been leaking oil from the change shaft for a while so decided to replace it. Then took it for a run checking out a few of my geocaches. All good, no more oil on the shed floor.

Made time to tear down the engine head, nothing but a series of failures, missing dowel, torn seal, possibly bent valves or bad guides (2 of them). Not a good day...

Looking good Georg! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Got really  cold after getting really wet. I think I'm gonna put that front fender back on if I'm going to keep riding in this crappy weather.

Primered my 750K8 frame after hours and hours of degreasing, pressure washing, paint stripping, more pressure washing, sanding, pressure washing again, and acetone baths.....and I received my new $25 valve spring compressor.

Very different looking from all the ones I've seen. I settled for this one

Dial once and squeeze, made quick work of the 8 valves I recently removed.

I used a hammer, a rare earth magnet and a tall socket to remove my retainers  ;D
this is just for putting them back on...

Bought a super-cheap impact socket set from Northern Tool+Equipment, that looks fine for motorcycle wrenching. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200485060_200485060

Equipped with the bigger sockets I've been lacking, I was able to finish bagging and tagging all of the old parts on my K2.

I've currently got a hi-fi speaker project taking up much of the basement, so I've got to spend a week or two wrapping that one up, before there's enough room for the bike. Meanwhile, my online shopping cart overfloweth...  ;D

Make sure you got off all topside bolts, including those under the starter. Then get a flat head screwdriver and man up

Well I woke up this morning (which is always a great way to start the day, or perhaps, a blues song) and wasn't sure what I wanted to do. The sun was shining, it was around 75 degrees, and I needed to do some bike stuff.

I had to do some banking, so after that I dropped into Ace Motorcycles to bum a cup of joe and a cigarette off Jeff, and he pointed me at my next project bike, a 1987 Yamaha FZR1000. I've wanted once since new, but they were always pretty thin on the ground here, so hopefully the owner will accept my offer, and it'll be in my garage soon.

Speaking of my garage, sadly there's not enough room for another bike, so I'll need to move one on. My 1987 FJ1200 is a great bike, but if any has to go it'll be it, so I need to do some work on it to make it sell-able. It's in generally good order, but the previous owner admitted that he'd done no maintenance in 5 years, and only did a couple of thousand miles in that time so the battery was clagged, the front brake discs are screwed along with the pads and fluid, it needs an oil and filter change, a seat cover, and few other bits to bring it back up.

Once I got home I started with replacing the discs. The original discs were lightweight ventilated things, and wore out in 30,000 miles. The ones I replaced them with are solid ones from our Chinese friends via eBay, they were cheap, but they look the goods, so hopefully they'll be OK.

The good thing about being on vacation is that I don't have to rush, so I'll leave the brake pad replacement until tomorrow as I want to give the calipers a good clean first. I washed up and fired up the barbecue, and cooked the last of the Christmas meat. All the steaks had gone, but there were burgers, snags and hamsteaks, and washed down with lots of beer, a fine repast. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Thanks guys, I'd say that my eyes are bigger than my stomach, but that's not true, but even though I'd skipped lunch I couldn't get it all down, but I did give it a big try. It's 10am as I type this, and surprisingly, even though I haven't had breakfast yet, I'm not actually hungry.......... ;D

Yeah..well..I was thinking the same thing when seeing that pic of Terry's "repast" Ron.  Curious mix of hedonistic envy..and knowing my docs would have a conniption-fit if I ate that myself. "However"..I do sneak-in a good "barby" meal myself..maybe once or twice a year..and when the wife isn't checking too close.

Long gone are the days for me when could eat..drink..smoke with abandon.  But Terry's still a young bloke..I figure..compared to some of the rest of us.

Hey Terry..just marry a Japanese.  Then..all the fish..rice and veges (yeah..lots of veges)..seem to satisfy not only the wife..but docs as well.  Took a little getting used to (for basic meat and potatoes type guy)..but actually enjoy eating like that nowadays. Guess you there in Oz also have a pretty good selection of fish..vege..et al that you do on the barby..eh Terry?

Anyway..Happy New Year guys.  Made myself hungry here talking about it..
