Are you going for the chrome like finish? Just wondering, because I want to get mine close to factory, which I'm told was clear coat right on the aluminum after it was out of the cast. Your look somewhat like that right now, but then again, I never saw one straight out of the factory so I may be wayyy off. I'm just going by old pictures...

What grit progression did you use from start to finish, I've got to do my own shortly here, a good winter project since I can take them indoors.

Pulled the clutch cover off my DT250 today. All looked good, nice and clean inside except for half  a mangled 6mm nut sitting at the bottom of the case. I've got no idea where it came from, it looks old and gnarled, not like something that lives anywhere here. Hmmmmmm.

Mystery nut.

I missed 8 and have never taken a course. Some of the questions that had abbreviations I guessed at because I didn't know what they stood for but got them right. One answer I don't agree with is the shift pattern. Not all bikes shift 1 down 4 up.

Me too. My old Suzuki 80 was 4 speeds all down. But to be fair to the authors of the test, I would bet the number of course participants who have ever ridden a bike with a shift lever on any side but the left and a pattern other than down for 1st and up for the rest is less than 1%.

If you've ridden those, you don't need the test.   ;)

Tripoli would be much too course with the finish he already has on those. The wheel will leave marks at this point.
After getting a finish like that with sandpaper I usually use a fresh muslin wheel with bobbing compound followed by simichrome with virgin cotton. Not the cotton ball stuff since that is mostly synthetic but the medical grade, it will take the haze from the wheel out and give a nice uniform finish.

Yeah.

Dave was on his 500 with a 550 engine.

In the interest of full disclosure I was slow with the Rev's the first time we tried that.....

That's the fun part for me....its a very technical ride.  I'd just shifted into 4th there at the end.

In the day Kawasaki said they were good for 139 MPH.
