2nd day this week of riding to work ;D...Larry

Unfortunately rode home in the rain

Saw a guy riding a PC today on my way home.  That bike is very quiet.

The quiet is nice for long rides,  longer I have the bike the more I like it.  Thinking of selling majority of my projects and going Victory or Indian...Larry

Cleaned up some more hardware, oil pan bolts and battery+tool tray stuff. Battery case has four different kinds of hex bolts  :o  but at least the rest of the stuff is all there..

All the posts I read were right, lowering a daily rider that's ridden hard makes no sense. Replaced my shorty rear shocks with these from DCC (measure right at 13" eye to clevis) and new springs in front forks to bring it back very near to stock height. Turns much better, way more comfortable. As I've read, form follows function, and I like the looks much better now too. Better pics to come tomorrow in daylight...

Installed my NOS 350/4 top fork bridge.  Got it for $150.00 AUD.  Bargain!

For anyone who's interested, this is the Aladdin's Cave I got it from:

http://motoretro.com.au/index.html

The old bridge was past it's "best before" date:

This all happened because I needed to replace the fork seals.  When I had the front brake off I discovered the caliper was also no good.  David Silver Spares have repro ones:

I'm in the 2nd week of a 4 week holiday.  What better way to spend it than wrenching!

Cheers

Trevor

P.S.  Hey Terry, are you going to "Bikes by the Bay" this Sunday?

Some of us have been riding them for a while....hard too.... ;D ;)   Bike looks good... An 18 inch rear wheel would help as well... ;)

Terry, the 4-1 look nice!  Yoshimura from the old days?

Yeah mate, the owner who bought it new in the early 1980's gave it to me for free because he was sick of not having a centre stand. Bonus! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

You've gotta get rid of that golf cart and buy an Indian Larry, (don't buy a Victory, they look like an Arlen Ness cast off............ ) then we can call you, er, "Indian Larry". (just make sure you wear a helmet) ;D

Indian Larry the final moments

Never rode a bike without a helmet other than up and down my block Terry.  I'd definitely lean to the Indian but I am awfully cheap and would have trouble paying 20k for a bike, but the thought has been planted...Larry

fought with carbs yesterday and today on my 76 750f.  2&4 wont flow fuel at idle.  cleaned and recleaned, to no avail
brand spanking new fuel lines last year, brand new fuel valve and in tank filter.
have pulled needles and seats and blown air back thru fuel inlets, they are clean
have swapped pilots with 1&3, they quit flowing fuel with the 2&4 pilots installed, so pulled back apart, recleaned, and put everything back where they belonged
swapped fuel bowls 1 for 2, and 3 for 4, made no difference, 2&4 wont flow at idle, cleaned em again
blow compress air thru them and they clean from both ends, put em in carbs and put fuel to them while trying to start bike, they clog instantly
just those 2 pilots
am at wits end with them at moment, need to clear head and source a pair of used 40 pilots, as y mind tells me there is something not right with the 2 i have

KRONUS

Check to see if the floats are hung up on the gasket on those 2. I had my gaskets pinched on the inside carbs and that caused tthem to hang up. Mine got stuck open or closed at idle tho..

You don't have an unlined fiberglass tank right?

Just trying to think around the more obvious

Get one Larry, they're just such a nicer looking bike, my cuz has got a 1944 Military Chief that's been "Civilianised", and the new Indians remind me of it every time I see one. I'd sell all my bikes tomorrow if I thought that they'd get me the 30K I need to buy one here in Oz! ;D

My oldest son is all pumped up now. He took his sweet 73 750 to a local bike shop where he lives the other day to get an estimate for truing his rims. The entire shop ended up stopping what they were doing to come out and check it out with one compliment after another. My kid loved every minute of it.

I reckon that the basic model is the nicest of the lot Larry, my brother bought my Triumph Rocket III Classic because he wanted all the extra's, (and did a whopping 20 miles on it before he decided that it was a little too powerful for his first bike after a 30 year hiatus) but I would have only bought the basic model if it was me.

I don't know how Victory (Indian's owner) can justify a 50% premium on US prices. Sure, they have to ship 'em out here, but unless they're flying First Class on a Dreamliner and being Chauffeur driven to their showroom in a stretched limo, I think we're just getting hosed............ ;D

Hey Scott you gave me some advice like 6 months ago on head gaskets. I just  wanted to say thanks. For some reason it gave me the confidence to rebuild my top end. I ended up going with a cycle x MLS gasket and even though I didn't need too I did a retorque today on that rebuild. And there was a little movement so I'm glad I did that.

So that's what I did today. I pulled my engine and re torqued my head bolts And put my engine back in.
Tomorrow I'll put it back together and hopefully ride it to the grocery store.

I also ended up putting time-sert inserts in all 4 rocker shaft bolts. 2 of them were stripped and the other two I did as precautionary.

I want that model. Yamiya has new replicas, welded versions without the smooth and beautiful bends. Other stainless replicas are bended too much upwards.
