Charged up the battery in a 550 , put in some fresh non alcohol fuel , checked the oil and viola, it runs. took it for a ride around town .All good.
Figured I would have time to fire up another 550. Went to napa and got a fresh battery, checked the oil, put in some fresh non alcohol fuel . I expected it to run as easy as the first one. no, not this time, it ran ratty. So I figure I would run some fuel through it and give those carbs a chance to flush themselves clean.... I gotta tell you, I hate first season starts, Sunday I pushed one home and today was no different.
maybe a little different, I didn't loose my checkbook today. Turned out to be kinked fuel lines starving the carbs, and of course it started up when I got it home.Picked up new fuel line.
Thought I might go best two out of three, and fire up a 500 cafe , did the usual stuff but not even a pop. Gotta check the electronic ignition, everything else works.
The tank is coming off, seems that I have developed a pinhole...didn't know till I fueled it. Brazing it soon.Wanted to change color anyways, got too many red bikes, don't have any blue ones .
 That was today's fun.

Finally recovered my ripped up seat with one of the fleabay seat covers. For $40 you cant beat them as a temporary solution.

I'll never really do a resto on my K2, it's just simply out of my budget and when I got my bike it was so Frankenstein-ed it's just not an option. And I'm not at the point where I'd want to do a full custom seat, so this will DEFINITELY suffice in the meantime. Easy to do, although, being a graphic designer, the instructions infuriated me. They could be designed so much easier to understand, oh well. Not to mentioned they were photocopied so many times I could barely see the photos!

I too did some carb work.  I mounted my cool new K&N the other day, but just now got a chance to try it out.  Runs lean.  I decided to try dropping the needle a clip to see if that would help.  Got 2 of them done this evening.  While I was at it, I pulled the emulsion tubes and cleaned them up (it has been 6 years). I will finish them up tomorrow to see if I need to go with bigger mains.

No, vintage Andrews Products coils.  Never missed a beat on the 3+ years I've had this bike.

I got a fender box and some mic parts that came with the auction in the mail from eBay. Box looks pretty good, I'd be tempted to disassemble the metal bracket from the plastic so I could clean and paint it all. I'm not sure where I would find those rivets though.

Meanwhile I got side-tracked, I went to have the El Camino inspected and it failed, so now I have some car-homework to finish over the week/weekend. Reverse lights, heater blower, speedometer, nothing big but nothing CB related either.  :P

Went out today on a call and bought some junk--err err I mean treasure. Picked up a 76F engine and exhaust and got the carbs front and back wheels, swingarm with all the master cylinders and calipers, tank, stock filter box with K&N filter and a crate of other misc goodies. Also grabbed a pretty nice 77 tank that has no dents and super clean inside. Hopefully be some trade bait   ;)  Needed some F stuff and as they say parts are parts. Always good to make new contacts with other biker types.

I recently read in a different thread on this site of a guy who has put sea foam in his cylinders and let it sit for a day or two to let the sea foam eat away at any gunk or build up in the cylinder and rings.  He said it can add compression and even free up locked up engines.

I am a big sea foam fan and my bike is low on compression so I tried it and got these results.  compression before/after:

cyl.1: 60/110
cyl. 2: 90/120
cyl. 3: 85/118
cyl. 4: 90/120

These numbers are approximate and I know cylinder #1 is still low but I was still very impressed with the difference in compression.  And it might just be in my head but my bike feels snappier! Which makes sense in theory. Just thought i'd share -Jake

Here's a pic from before today's test ride
