Picked up the frame and attached parts from the powder coaters, who managed to butcher the VIN plate and taped up rear shock mounts. Assembled the cheapo HF wheel balancing stand only to find out the axel is bowed  >:( you get what you pay I guess??

Most people are happy with the stand. General consensus seems to be that the bearings are a little tight and cause it to resist just a little when trying to spin balance. Overall most are happy. Swap it out
Thanks, that's a relief. I tested it out and the rollers seem alright, just a bummer about the rod, will swing by menards this weekend and find a replacement.

Yeah most of the time the spin seems "tight", can't say I notice really but no major compaints about it being bent. Out of the box they usually work just fine. It is the tinkerer in us that finds the faults usually.  Looks like you scooped a lemon

Truth be told, I half expected it to be bad. I read the reviews before buying and many had complained that the axel is bent out of the box. So I had them open up the box at the checkout, and I did do a simple roll on the flat table test. In hindsight, this was a poor way to do it, as it seemed to not wobble on the flat surface, but the runout is abundantly clear when on the rollers.

Where did you get the seat and are you looking to sell it?

If he does not, try here....

Don't think Tews paid that much for his whole bike!

LOL I paid a little more then the seat.... Just a little.

Here you go mate, you can buy a really close replica of the Guiliari seat from "Bob the Seat" in Jolly old England for only around 160 or so US dollars? And the good thing is, it'll have a plastic seat base, unlike the rusty genuine ones. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Thanks Terry for this!!!
This seat is a typical mod for a CB750. Look like a 2 person seat....
The shipping cost is wrong though... £100 to Sweden is a little bit too much. Max £25.... I have asked about the cost.. hopefully good shipping. I can wait 2 weeks  with a slow cheaper shipment. UK-Sweden usually really low shipping cost.
I have ordered heavy stuff like camping gears from UK.

Flip-flopped the tank around in the bath a few times, it's a big part and low amps so I've been letting it go, just keeping an eye on it. I started wire wheeling the exhaust header but I may not keep going. Whatever brand of aftermarket it was it had been powder coated and that alone is hard to strip,  with all the rust pitting to boot there's no way in hell I'll ever make this nice enough to be worth chrome, so I'll get it kind of nice and save it for the other bike if that ever turns into a project.

Riding home from a mates last night and I ended up with front brake grab syndrome. Basically the front brake was grabbing by itself and got worse to the point where i couldn't move the bike (not even touching the lever). I pulled over and let it sit for 15 mins, actuating the lever to try and free it up. Finally it did, but then repeated it again twice and finally I made it home. The whole drama was akin to this thread
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=132712.0
Anyhow, I ended up rebuilding it today and glad i did as there was heaps of crystalisation crud that came out of it at the air/fluid boundary at the seal. Gave everything a good cleanup, new fluid & bleed, some grease around the outer border and some anti-squeal on the outer peripheries and behind the pads. Adjusted it all up and now its great, grabs nice and no squeal.

That's a Prestolite ignition, they were an "economy" ignition in their day, but if you've got one that still works now, it'll probably last forever. I bought 5 of them for GS1000's at the birth of eBay for 20 bucks each and sold all but 1, which I installed in my bike, and it crapped out after a couple of miles. I guess all the other one's worked, because I never had any complaints from the buyers. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Drained about 100cc from the F model forks on my K2. Smells fishy. Tomorrow I'll get some SAE15 fork oil and fill them with 220cc in each leg.

Installed my drag bars along with the kung fu grips, stainless lines, new throttle cables, and new master cylinder.

Got it all buttoned up, but can't get the new MC and lines to pressure up. The PO replaced the bleed screw with a basic phillips screw that really doesn't fit, but has re-threaded the hole so an actual bleed screw no longer fits. UGH. Looks like i'm buying a new caliper now as well.  ::)

'Speed Bleeders' come in different sizes (OD & thread pitch).  You may be able to replace the bodge with one of these / or have it done if you don't have the tools.

I was thinking about that. I bought a factory size/pitch speed bleeder, but may go up a size and see if i can make it work.

Found a few things while out 'pickin' this weekend. Found a 750 gas tank and grab bar and a couple of Honda seats. Wish I knew offhand what they fit, do have more pics. Also bought 7 gallons of never used Rotella T 15/40 for a very cheap price.

Used the aircraft remover on the tank and aluminum parts. It worked rather well on some areas but took 3 or 4 applications in others. The other downside is the cleanup with water which promotes flash rust.
I'm going to try to finish up tomorrow, I'm not a huge fan of removing paint this way, but I didn't want to make a whole lot of marks sanding that I didn't have to. On the tank especially.

It helps to scrape the paint and put some light gouges in it on the thick areas. Also, rinsing with a parts washer brush and mineral spirits first, then with water keeps flash rusting at bay. You can always clean up the surface with denatured alcohol or some other paint pre-prep sol to remove the left over mineral spirits when you're ready to paint.

Yes but the bike and bill of sale was from New York.  I had the girl at the DMV scratching her head, she had no idea what to do! I told her to go get the "big book".
