I wish it was a gift! No acetone in the shop but squirted some MMO in, will probably give it a few days and recheck.

Finally put a proper band on the muffler to replace the old U bolt clamp. And i added a shiny new exaust hangar. Took the original hanger off and realized it kept the center stand from rubbing the chain. :o

Hey Terry what about using those metal washers like what comes on the inner fender of our bikes?

It would fit snug and stop the holes from breaking, again

Thanks mate, I need to go back and look at the schematic diagrams on the CMSNL site and see what was missing on my bike, because it only had two screws holding the fender on, and I can't see where the other two go? I hope I'm not missing some brackets too? I did notice that the fender had been epoxied before though, so it could well be that a PO "modified" it. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

That's easy to spot mate, if the frame stickers are in Japanese script, it is, but if they're in English, it's not. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Today and yesterday... and the day before. I spent with my friendly nemesis Aircraft remover, and my two frames, the stock and the PO-hacked. I'm about 50-ish % done if you count both frames and I took another stab at a few aluminum parts I hadn't been happy with while I had the goop out. Then: Thunderstorm. Not much more going to happen tonight.

When I was removing the VIN plates from the frames I noticed that one was brown, and the other black. Was there any reason for that? They're both 77s, though one is a Jan and the other an Apr baby.  :P

I'm looking (idly) for a rear hoop for the cut frame so I can at least make a cafe/shortened frame out of it, instead of the Frankenstein's missing an ass cheek hack I inherited.  ;D

Today I replaced the tires and tubes on my '73 cb350f. I was still riding the tires from the previous owner, and the rear tire had a slow leak, so I'm hoping this will fix it. It even failed on me while riding last year, so I'm REALLY hoping that this will do the trick.

Avon Road Riders, 90/90 x 18 on the front and 100/90 x 18 on the rear. The ride is totally different, and I am handling corners with much more confidence.

She's so beautiful.

I believe they all started out to be black, but fade over the years from sun exposure, turning different shades of brown depending on how much outdoor time it has had.

Gassed up the CB750, poured a little Lucus carb cleaner in her, rode great for about 13 miles and spit and sputter took over.......apparently she don't like the carb additive.

Runs like crap, backfiring, spitting, sputtering, won't go over 20 mph, just barely made it back home..........crap.

Got some work ahead of me I guess....

And finally have a non oil leakier, cause I finally changed the oil line.

Finally ran my tank the last bit down after replacing my jets. Looks like the jetting was causing my poor mileage! I was running SO lean on the PO-installed jetting that I had to open the throttle more to get any sort of speed.

Normally I would have run out at ~160KM... but from 128.8KM I made it to 175KM before switching to reserve... that's a 70% increase! I should be getting into the ~35MPG range now, which is more normal.

That's odd mate, I use that Lucas stuff in my bikes and have never had an issue with it. Maybe it loosened up some sludge in your carbs and that's blocked your jets? Cheers, Terry. ;D

My engine got additional zinc.
I read this thread where half recommended doze was used.
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=138592.msg1565987#msg1565987

I bought different brand of additive in a local US car-part-restorer-builder.
Edelbrock Zinc Additive for 6 quarts/liter oil. Content 12oz (35,5cl) I'll use it for 3 treatments. (3x3,5L oil)
I used 12cl (2x6cl)
Removed 2dl oil, added 6cl Edelbrock Zinc Additive. Started engine, added additional 6cl after a few minutes idling, revving +2000rpm. Let it run a few minutes more. (Used oil: Castrol Act-Evo 4T 20W-50)

I hope my clutch will work smoother and no more stucked plates which is new for me, never back in the days. OK cam with rockers will be something to check at next time opening the head cover.

Find NOS Castrol GTX 20W-50 from early 80's might be a good idea. A barrel of ~200L somewhere...?

I'd never use the old GTX in a CB750 mate, the "Friction Modifiers" would make your clutch slip horribly. I've never wasted money on motorcycle oil either, back in the day I used "Mobil Super Drop" car oil in my CB750's, my first GL1000 and my Kawasaki Z900, and it was excellent. Nowadays I use the cheapest car oil I can find, it's still way better than the best oil available back then. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Around me the difference in cost between motorcycle specific oil and cheap car oil is maybe $1 a quart. For $4 I prefer to use oil that is specifically for use with wet clutch setups.

Bud,

Don't rule out that a non-fuel issue is causing it. Just like with target fixation when riding, troubleshooting fixation has caused many a wrencher to run headlong down a dry hole.

Sudden loss reduction of power and 30 MPH top speed sounds a lot like one coil/point set dropping out.

Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

That's a magnificent bike Steve, I have fond memories of riding on the back of my mate Hughie Bowden's (RIP Hughie) R5 when I was maybe 15 years old, we were both just wearing T Shirts and shorts (and no helmets of course) and that little 2 stroke beast was doing 105 MPH, and loving it! Cheers, Terry. ;D

That is one fantastic RD! I have an RD as well as the Rickman and the K2.
The RD always surprises me. It is THE fun machine on the road.

and to keep on topic... I've started to put the K2 callipers back together with new pads and Venhill hoses/banjos/bolts etc.

Hey Terry - I have memories too, a mate of mine had one years ago, I was so impressed after riding it that I had to find one.
(Last I heard, Johnny was in prison for armed robbery, don't know what happened to his RD)

Well its time to give up on the free Suzuki 750 Intruder that I got for a carb rebuild.  I ordered a new transistor to put in the ignitor and that did not fix the no spark issue in the front cylinder so its a bad pickup or chip in the ignitor.  I just cant bring myself to put any money in the bike even though I think it would make a nice bobber and I have a clean title.  I guess I will scavenge what I want to keep, sell what I can on the Intruder forum and haul the rest to the scrap yard.  Such a shame for a nice old bike.

So its back to the K1 550 to clean up some lingering issues.  Cleaning out the carb bowls and finally got around to ordering a set of o-rings for the oil pump and a new shifter shaft seal.  I got tired of it leaving its mark every where I parked it in the basement.  What surprised me is that the o-ring(s) behind the oil pump are leaking but not the cover one that every one talks about.  Between this and giving it a white diamond massage I think I can stay busy through the next couple of rainy days they are calling for.
