Pieced out my bike today, 74 cb750k. Sold the remainder of the yellow albatross to a Canadian gentleman. No more rebuilds for me!!!!.

Bob

Sorry to hear it, hope you made out alright on the bike. It was done right just not to everybody's tastes
Today is OEM look the global taste.
If a CB look exactly as it could have looked like that very day it left Honda in Japan it will be popular for buyers.

Back in the 80's, OEM look was not good, nothing for the interested and dedicated biker. Plenty of shops providing all kind of aftermarket parts transforing a CB750 to what ever you want. I destroyed the OEM look on my bike, but I had fun! Now spending some $$$ to bring it back to OEM look with small modifications.

I should have bought 5-10 new CB750 tanks when they sold them for coffee money 30 years ago....

I changed out gas cap for new one. Mine stopped venting, seal was bad, and was the only thing left on the bike with any kind of rust on it. Was supposed to ride out to a vintage bike night but was volun-told that I had to stay at work, so just sat and stared at it :/

If the vent wasn't venting and the seal wasn't sealing, that's like a double negative, right?  ;)

Well, not a SOHC4 but this is something all these bikes probably need.

I knew this round-tuit  was going to be a roadside jerry rig in the dark if I didn't do something, and these old Honda fuse holders are just not state of the art anyway.

Found this mini blade fuse  holder at Autozone. They had the larger one for the same price, but I decided red was better than yellow for some reason. It sort of fits in the old holder on the frame and a spare fuse tucks into the cap, too.

I have this hanging fuse in my bike too, 3 of them connected direct to battery.  Feeding headlight, ignition and horn via relays. Very cheap at a local car part shop.

Saw the same thing except clear plastic instead of black for double the price at another store. It is worth shopping a bit.

Made a $4 investment in a winker circuit breaker- tired of wearing out my thumb making the things blink.  The  only problem is there is a lag time before the new one comes on. Maybe reversing the polarity of the installation will help?

The new flashers have the lag, the older original style ones don't. Don't remember why but switching polarity won't do it, it is how it is setup. This came up a while ago as to why some members on here prefer the older thermo flasher

Well I sure as hell like that thing to pop on when I hit the switch.  It's like you  really can't be much more than an arse when wanting to make quick lane changes. It seems like with all the microchip technology they'd come up with something better that worse than what they had. ???

What I mean is that the damaged seal now vents, so you're good to go. :)

Having trouble with the idle coming down without braking the engine with the clutch and then it comes down. (450 again)

Boots are good not cracked, but the clamps  tighten down all the way and the carb is loose.

I couldn't stretch a ring of inner tube over it so I had to cut  a strip and wrap it. Then the clamp went on  too far apart for the screw to reach.  Used these funky h.f. plyars and had a friend run the screw in. Tightened it right up.

pulled the crank out and fished part of the rod out of the engine case.

Threw a rod, any idea what to look for as far as crank damage goes? realistically what else am I looking for damage wise? cases look fine, head looks fine. Just not sure how far to go with repairs.

Also any recomendations on gasket sets would be great  :D

Pics mate, we need to see pics! Have you unbolted the remains of the rod from the crank yet? Is the bottom of the sleeve smashed? Where did the piston go? Valve/combustion chamber damage? I'm surprised you didn't damage the cases, I've got a couple of sets here that were damaged by an errant rod at max RPM. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Nothing wrong with using an inner tube.  I keep an old KLR650 tube around just for that purpose.

I even sewed a gusset cut from that inner tube onto the crotch of my riding pants to seal a leak - looking more like a Mad Max extra all the time.
