I agree, I don't think anything is gained by lopping them off. They are nearly invisible and you don't have to run the stand all the time. I run a bare bracket and just pop the pivot bolt and stand in for when I want to do maintenance

I did this on my first 550 build. Worst thing one can possibly do IMO.

Terry, I have to laugh. When I am working night shifts, we are always up about the same time reading the forum. We're just half a world apart is all.  Im on a "night off" right now, sitting at home but I have to keep my internal clock switched over and Im up all night.  Slightly off topic,  ok I took my bike in for a government safety inspection and It passed.  Whahoooo, :)

Lol ! In worse I mean it makes regular maintenance a PITA with no center stand.

Nothing, for the same reason as usual. Working on the MG. But I thought I would provide photo evidence of my efforts for your amusement.

Ha ha, I know mate, I was just trying to lighten things up. What I did on the 750 I'm building for a customer (who wanted the centre stand tabs lopped off) is use a couple of cheap car Jack stands under the passenger footpeg hangers with shop towels to avoid scratching the newly powdercoated frame, and it works as well as a centre stand for removing the rear wheel, adjusting the chain etc. I wouldn't do it on one of my own bikes, but that's a personal preference. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Aaahhh, you old farts are still out there, sitting up in your rocking chairs with your shawls draped over your shoulders to keep the grim reaper at bay, intermittently dribbling into your adult diapers, and mumbling incoherently about the war.

Get with the program Larry, lots of bikes don't even come from the factory with centre stands nowadays, but (shock horror) somehow folks are still able to work on them? Silly old bugger.............. ;D

'Twas a magnificent spring day here in Oz, so after several hours of mowing and weed whacking (Fathers Day tomorrow, so I have to be good) I decided to install the "Ricks Electrics" solid state Regulator/Rectifier on my K1 to try to get some electricity back into my battery.

Sadly it was all for nought, I suspected that it was my stator all along, but had to try the new unit to confirm it, but at least I know it's all good, and that the old OEM items will go to a good home in Mike's bike. Cheers, Terry. ;D

The owner of the shop I worked for a while was going to install LS7 in old MG with Corvette transmission and rear half axles and Ford steering - not sure if he finished it but sure was a cool project.

Ah...MGB rust isn't it wonderful.  How are your door posts, and rockers??

The door posts and floors are solid. The rockers are bad at the ends, but appear solid in the middle. I have 3 or the 4 pieces to replace the right side. I have the outer rocker for the left side, but based on what I am seeing I need to order the middle stiffener piece for that side as well.

The several days I am working on it this week turned into mostly demo. I will have to weld in the new metal over the next several weekends.

Looks like I'll be in the market for a new steering wheel ::).     I am not a VW fan but I do like this little car, zips around corners and is fast enough for a 67 year old cranky, old man, best part is the 1500 price.....Larry

I know what you mean Larry, last year I had to give my son our "spare" car so he could get to work after he had some problems with his own car, and after a couple of weeks I realised that I needed another car to replace it.

Not wanting to spend a lot of dough on a car that I'd only use on weekends, (I've got a company truck to drive to and from work, but it's too much of a hassle to use after hours, tax implications etc) I did an internet search for a cheapie and found a 1995 Subaru Liberty (Legacy in the US) that was a non-runner, but for $450.00, worth a look.

The owners had spent some money on it, and it was running fine until they hired a "Mobile Mechanic" to replace a leaking cam seal, and the cam belts. Once he'd done the work, he couldn't get it running, so he told them that it was just flooded, and to leave the spark plugs out overnight, and it'd be fine in the morning. It didn't start the next day, so they called him again, and this time he told them that the crank position sensor would need replacing, and quoted them 500 bucks to fix it, which they couldn't afford.

Bottom line was he'd messed up the cam timing, so after a few weeks they gave up trying to get it running and bought another car. I liked the look of it, so I paid them and asked if I could come back in a couple of days and try to get it running. Thanks to the guys on one of the US Subaru sites I was able to get some info on how to properly time it, so went back to their place, re-set the valve timing, and drove it home.

I did have a couple of issues with a bad water pump and the typical Subaru air lock in the cooling system, but ace mechanic "Trueblue" here told me how to fix that, and nothing's gone wrong with it since. I've never owned a Subaru before, but it's a great little car, and I actually prefer to drive it over our other cars, as does my wife and oldest son, so the way things are going, I might have to buy another one! Cheers, Terry. ;D
