Well Terry at least you got 100K before it acted up on you!!!

Thanks Fred, of course I've probably only done 2 or 3 thousand miles on it myself, but I'll take some credit even so, if I didn't save it from the wreckers yard it would have been parted out a couple of years ago, and I'm happy that it wasn't, as it's a joy to ride. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Gee Terry - toilet bowl cleaner, what a Guy. I bet your wife is just quivering with excitement to see whats going to be under the Christmas tree this year. Hopefully some high grade floor shine polish and those expensive micro filter vacuum bags, not the cheapies  ;D   ;D

A generous and thoughtful bloke no doubt.  But I bet some of that toilet bowl cleaner finds it's way into a rusty gas tank! ;D
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Never thought of that Bruce. Always give the wife a nice tool or other chemical that you can swipe back and use in the shop.  Well I guess its the thought that counts-----   :-*

I put my new handlebars on and headlight with a home fabricated and painted bracket. Don't let the tires and forks confuse you! Took them off an 81 750c and put them on this 1973 750 :) wanted dual disc brakes

Finally swapped out the sprockets and chain. With those and new steering bearings, the bike feels completely different! Nice and tight!

Finally found an alternative for the elusive cb500 kick start black cap. Found this chrome hole cap at Home Depot. Broke off a few teeth to clear the kicker shaft and then stretched the rest to make a tight fit. We'll see how long it lasts.

I'm still waiting for the original seat but found this in an ad on ebay. It was listed but in the background of a tank for sale. I sent the person a message on ebay and he texted me pics. Hard to find a seat that looks new so I thought incase the PO of the brown 550 falls through (doubt it will since it took me a yr to work out the deal). Over all I'm very pleased. It has been on the PO's shelf for years. Money well spent imo.

Nice find.  A good seat is a must, especially on a original restore.

GOT IT!
First off thanks to all who have helped so far for your help!!
2 more blown fuses while trying to trouble shoot with the battery still hooked up lol but in the end I figured it out. The black and brown wire off the light are for the small secondary bulb that is on when running and ignition in "P"...One to power one to ground.
The lack of running light in the back is due to the light being on the same circuit as the front one that works in "P"...from what I can tell it should also activate in the "on" position but only does sometimes....or after I sit in "P" for a second first then switch to run...is this a bad connection or a weird factory setting? I have no clue. Might wire a second line to the back from the hot line up front so the tail light is always on as well as on in "p"....would hate to deal with the "ol law man" cause that light decided not to work while on the road lol.
Still have to properly connect everything though....either bullet connectors or solder and heat shrink?? we'll see. For now I am just STOKED that everything is working!!!

After cleaning up wiring its on to brakes and then hopefully one ride before snow flies lol! Oh . . . right . . . I need a seat too :p
I bought a bike that didn't run to force myself to learn the ropes! She runs now ;)

Wired up the rear end of the bike after chopping it a little and properly installing the rear blinkers. New connectors, and everything is wrapped up so no exposed wires. Tucked up neat under the seat frame. Will hopefully finish the front end today!!!

Frank's frame kit arrived today. Might get it installed this weekend (might not, too... garage roof to fix).

For anyone here who's done a complete ground up rebuild, trying to keep motivated is always a major issue. Luckily a couple of boxes of new parts arrived on Friday, so it wasn't too difficult to drag myself away from my comfy chair to do a bit before retiring inside for the MotoGP telecast from Phillip Island.

Mike (the owner) had bought some stuff from Carpy and Dime City Cycles, so I started by fitting one of Carpy's "bobbed" fibreglass rear fenders. The quality is pretty average, and I'd have preferred that he included a fitting kit and drilled the mounting holes, but to be fair, it went on OK. I also installed the DCC rear light and blinkers (which are actually marked "Not Blinkers, Marker Lights", so I'll have to see what's up there when I wire it all up.

The engine in Mike's bike had the top end off when he bought it, and there was enough crap inside from burned bearings and bits of loose clutch plate to make me do a thorough inspection of the oil tank before I re-installed it. I removed the oil lines, and saw this:

I decided to use another oil tank that I'd cleaned out a couple of years ago, it needed painting, but was in much better condition, and not full of crap like that. The oil lines were buggered as well:

So I cut the old swaged clamps off, and once I'd cleaned up the ends, I fitted a pair of Carpy's braided lines:

I couldn't install them because I had to paint the oil tank and find some new crush washers for the oil line fittings, so that was about all I got done today. Still, not a bad couple of hours effort. It's kind of a pity that these things need fuel tanks, I always thought they look better without them?

OK, back in the garage for a couple of weeks sadly, I'm going away interstate transitioning in a new defence contract on Tuesday, so not much chance of any bike time for the rest of this month. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
