I sure doesn't look like from the pics it will take much to get her going. Take it a 750 battery won't fit in, they slot nicely on the 900. Wally World probably has one unless your going sealed. Be sure to take some nice lakeside pictures soon when you get it out and don't kill yourself please   ;D

No, a 750 or 550 nor a RD350 battery will fit, it is a narrow one.  I only buy sealed batteries now, one is on the way. I did hook up the 550 battery, I have most lights [no brake lights] and most importantly spark! No room to drop the bowls so I plan to try to kick start this weekend [no elec start on these....bummer].

Heck, triples hardly need a battery - trust me!  Without an electric start, as long as you've got a decent charging system all the battery is doing is smoothing out your voltage a little

It's a project bike, dont know if the charging system is working!
The battery is expected tomorrow.

Brought a new one home......

Right....and you want us to believe???

Brought a new one home......
How many spark plugs does it take--3 by chance ?? or did you buy the 5 bike CB750 horde in central Texas.

I think it does have three spark plugs, guess I should check and confirm!
It's a '74 H1-E, project bike [non-runner] but it's all there and only 4500 miles.  Found it in Brighten, Michigan, sorry Eric, I'm invading your jurisdiction!

Nice smoker, Stev-o!

Did a little over a hundred miles today with a friend and old forum member who was riding his new 2014 CB1100. Nice bike. I was riding something that started with a Z and ended with a 1  :o  Wish it had been just a couple of degrees warmer at 80 + mph   :D
Just for fun we tracked down and looked at a few old bikes on bikes out of town.  Kind of feel like I am needing a fix  :)

Gapped a new set of rings, and practiced honing the cylinders.  If I can figure it all out with confidence, I'll be able to button the engine up again before the rains start.

Yeah thats right Steve ,different bikes here and there keeps things interesting. You know I got a thing for the Z1 and ever since seeing hondadogs  Suzuki GS1100E I want one of those to ;) Looks like you found you a nice 500 triple. Congrats! I think the last couple years of the 500 Kawasaki they had been forced to detune(good ole EPA) this beast some and took away some of its sting, but I know the earlier years at least in the 1/4 mile they would of given your Z1 a hard time. So is this considered a sohc3. Haha

Sounds like you know your Kaw history, dhall.  Yes, the H1 was the bad boy on the block back in the day.  I initially wanted an early one but when this one popped up with 4500 miles, I pulled the trigger.
It can't be a SOHC3, there is no "C"!

Nice bike Stev-o. I remember the summer of 74 working towards the finals in a drag meet with an H1 & a Z1. My 750 K3 was 810 and the best I could manage a 12.96 I believe. Both those other riders were good though. As I recall I had to give the H1 a couple lights and he plain kicked my ass. I think he turned mid 12's but lost to the Z1 in the final. (pretty sure the Z was "worked on")

Bottom line is those bikes opened a lot of eyes....wide.  ;) Yours looks great, I hope you have fun with it.

Thanks BW.  Love hearing the stories of these bikes back in the day.  Reportedly, the early H1's were capable of a 12.4 quarter mile out of the box.

I just installed a new MotoBatt, but need fuel, will attempt start up tomorrow.

That's a nice H1 Steve, well done! Is the 2 stroke oil pump working? If you're not sure, it's best to fill it with premixed 2 stroke fuel for the first start up, the last thing you want to do is seize the engine and burn your bearings.

I rode a H1 back in the mid 1980's (my mate Davey bought one in mint condition like yours) and it was a wicked little beast, quicker than my K1, but felt very "loose" in the twisties. Not life threatening, but not as tight as say, your RD.

Have fun on that thing, they were a game changer for Kawasaki, and a piece of motorcycling history. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Thanks Terry.  Yes, I plan to premix the fuel, I just happen to have some 2 stroke oil on the shelf.
So true about the H1 being a game changer, you got a lot of performance for a new H1 for about $1000 back then.

Nothing like the smell of Blendzall in the morning Steve! I'll never forget the first one I rode.  I had just given the 500 the PA state inspection and decided to take it for a test ride, cracked the throttle open at the apex of a right hand sweeper and the front end came up :o  At least I did not crash the customer's bike(I think it was one of those orange/rust ones).  Enjoy...Larry

I think it was like that Steve and that would be around when it happened-either 72 or  73.  It was the fastest bike I ever ridden  until I had a chance to ride its big bro-the 750 triple. Fastest I ever went on a bike was on the first Goldwing that I set up and just had to test ride-the early naked Wangs were a blast to ride

More importantly, check to see whether the crankcases have filled with oil.  They are notorious for oil making its way through the pump & past the check valves.  When you kick it over, the hydraulic lock will bend a rod.  A guy I know just had that happen to a beautiful H2 he imported from New Zealand.
