K2 - Laced a new (old) rim onto the original hub. Got it to within 0.75mm wobble and hop. 2mm is the service limit. Close enough for me! Pulled the wheels out, ready to get some new rubber on them. Started building an air filter.
TS 250X - welded and reinforced the "normal" frame crack. Repaired the tail light. Replace the master cyl and single pot calliper. Bleed and done.

. Fastest I ever went on a bike was on the first Goldwing that I set up and just had to test ride-the early naked Wangs were a blast to ride

I know my 77 naked Wang put a big ;D on my face when I first turned the throttle and went through the gears. Damn! For a big bike the boy will get up and go ;)

Here is a little video you can watch Stev-o so you can get accustom to the 2 stroke triple sound  till you get yours on the road ;)

No chance of mistaken it for a CB750 is it!

I have only experience with Jawa/CZ 2 strokes, never had a real 2 stroke. Are Japanese two strokes reliable bikes? How many miles before the first rebuild?

Today I struggled to fit a 550F seat cover on a K pan/foam. It worked, but it's not pretty. I'll do something else withe the seat eventually. I also adjusted the valves and cam chain, but I think one or two of the valves is still a little out of spec. The engine is quieter than it was, but there's still some ticking.

Then I readjusted my All Ballz headset bearings a touch on the tight side, so the front end feels nice and solid. You guys have also been helping me figure out why my clutch was dragging AND slipping with good 10w40. I'm happy to report that as of right now, it's only slipping... It's fine around town, but it'll slip if I really get on it. New clutch soonish.

Anyway, I did all the stuff, wiped it down, snapped a pic, then rode it for a bit. I can't believe how fun it is, and how many people are psyched to see an old Honda in decent shape back on the road. As problematic as it is, it still puts a smile on my face every time!

Jawa/CZ aren't real?  You should be ashamed of your heritage for saying that Prokop :P   I once saw an R5C Yammie with 30k and untouched other than routine tune ups and maintenance FWTW...Larry

That's a can of worms, Larry.  Due to mainly political reasons was Jawa making the same bike - with minimum upgrades and R&D - for 40+ years.  You could say it was building on concept from before WWII and before socialism and you would not be far from truth.

The quality was good - for the East block, but it was not good enough to keep up with western competition.   That is what I meant by "real".

Great bike you got there, Stev-o!

Def not like back in the day but for a bike that hasn't run in over 2 years, I'm pleased. I've got a low end bog, could be a fouled plug or dirty jets. But I was taking it easy cuz I had no front brake but just fixed that, had a clogged line. I plan to give it the full 2000 mile tune up, but I'll skip adjusting the valves and changing the points, I bet they are fine!

Cleared all the bikes out of the garage today and rode four out of the five. It's a tough job but somebody has to do it ;D. Decided to line them all up nice and pretty for a photo shoot before putting them back up 8)

funny thing is...all Japan's 2-stroke technology and ideas was stolen from Walter Kaaden when Suzuki payed East Germany's GP rider/ mechanic to defect to Japan

Bought my '79 CB650 about six weeks ago with 5700 miles, finally got it out of the shop.  Got the carbs rebuilt, two new tires installed, tune up, new carb cables, install Superbike bars and round black mirrors, build/install front s/s brake line, etc.  After I got it back, I installed new rear shocks, got a spare front rotor off eBay cross-drilled and installed it along with new EBC FA45 pads, and got the 4-1 header that was on the bike ceramic-coated and installed.  Also removed the stock airbox cover and fabbed up an aluminum bar for the two mounting bolts, which increased by a whole lot the amount of air into the air filter.  Bought another oil filter cover, and the two engine case covers on the left and the clutch cover on the right, and will get those pieces power-coated gloss black and installed.

This was my first real time spent riding the bike since I bought it, and took it on a gentle 45-mile test ride, due to the new tires and front brake pads.  Not impressed with the front brake at all, and the throttle grip is awfully hard to roll on and off, at least compared to my '87 Cagiva.  I like how you can rev it way up there, past 7000 rpms, and it still pulls and sounds great with that exhaust.  The rear shocks are nice, along with the thickly padded seat, so it's a more comfortable ride than the Cagiva.

After I rode the CB650, I took the Cagiva out on the same road, and what a difference.  The Cagiva feels a LOT lighter than the CB, more point and shoot where the CB take some effort to flick it back and forth.  The throttle is also a LOT smoother on the Cagiva, and it's easier to ride fast than the CB.  But the thinly padded seat and more forward riding position on the Cagiva makes it more uncomfortable for longer rides.  About an hour on the Cagiva and I'm ready to call it a day, lol!

Anyway, hope to get those parts back from the powder-coaters this week, and if I'm lucky, have them installed as well.  That's about all I have planned for the CB, with the exception of doing something with that front brake system.  Swapping the old-school single piston caliper for a two or even a four piston caliper would probably do wonders for that single rotor front end...

Finished cleaning the carbs on the 4k original mile 550K today. Syncd and took it for my first ride. Scary riding on such low air pressure but fixed that while getting gas. Amazed how smooth it is after sitting for so long.
