Replaced the tail light on the H1.  The brake lights never worked since I got it and the wiring was in poor cond, bought a tail light from a guy on the Kaw triples forum.  Roads are wet from rain so no test ride today, but will tomorrow...

Isn't just about anything a felony in the dysfunctional country of Californistan?

I drove the bike yesterday. I've never driven it that late in season before, 29:th of October. +10 to +5 degrees C.
Today raised the needles in my carbs 2 steps richer, clip in lowest groove when carbs still run lean at 4000-5000 rpm.

Needles are tricky. Engine run fine for 30 minutes, then starting to run lean when warm. I finally found out that the needles is the only thing able to cause that, thicker when warm. Lets see if highest position is enough or if i need to buy new carb stuff again. Needles this time with thinner tapering around 1/4 throttle lift or 20-25mm down the needle.

A month later you may have already solved this, but are your choke butterflies fully opening? It also seems to me like you need a slightly richer juet rather than a needle. I get why you are thinking taper, but at lower speeds its the idle air screw and the slow jets that control most of the mixture. At greater throttle openings it switches to the main jet. If you are getting lean in the 4-5k RPM's then I think the issue is too lean of a main jet.

Started working through my engine internals, looking for stuff to be replaced and trying to figure out a problem with my neutral and 3rd gear...
Also running into some small issues I can't seem to figure out. I have one weird, double, riveted clutch plate and one with slanted grooves. Trying to determine wether or not parts have worn down or if it is normal wear and tear.
My micrometer and slider gauge are my best friends right now!
I'm making an army bag into a waterproof seat cover and had to drill out a whole bunch of rivets for that.

Eric, in Michigan you are better off getting caught with no plate, than one that doesn't belong to the bike.

Dave down at Life Cycle says I should just try and get a dealer plate, that sounds scary though dealing with more government.

to get a dealer plate, you need a dealer's license...I don't think it's that big a deal ha ha...seriously though, it's probably just a bunch more forms and fees, nothing to be scared of, just annoying.  Yeah, I too find my self on too many un-plated, un-insured extended test rides.

Are you guys saying that riding without a plate is a felony in CA? A friend of mine with a very nice CX500 has never had a plate on his and has never even been hassled. I'll have to look into this and let him know...

Hi all, just got my cb750 temporary operating permit today have to wait for the real plate (Vintage Plate). They gave me this paper and said to put it on the back of the bike as best i can, well this paper is like 18 in by 18 in, I guess ill just get me a card board box and duck tape it on, yeah right.
DMV said i could get a vintage plate since the bike is 36 years old but the cost was $99.86 and once the bike is 40 years old, it will only be $10.00 Really!! what kind of crap is that? three years to go.
I guess it would have been a bit cheaper if i did not have to get the title change from Wyo to UT and the vintage plate but my hell.
The good side is the state safety inspection was only 7 bucks.
Always looking for friends.
