Returning the throttle to idle by human power is all well and good... assuming the human is still aboard.

Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Wasn't today, but during a spirited ride with fellow forum member ChrisP [on ex-Chewy's beautiful Sunrise Orange K3], I lost the left side cover on my original paint Boss Maroon K4.

I never really liked that color, but my K4 is one of my fav bikes, so last year I had a tank and covers painted Polynesian Blue, an European-only color.

They have just been sitting on the shelf, so thought this was a good time as ever to mount the new bodywork.

The bike is running as good as ever and I had hoped to ride today, but it's been cold and wet all day. Last week on a trip to the park...

Oh gosh...

Bike is an Orange '76 CB550F SS and it has not been registered since 03.

Started by removing the bars and rerouting the switch wiring through the bars (I had put drop bars on it a while back).
Then removed the rear fender and rerouted misrouted taillight wiring through the fender channel
Lifted the fork gators to inspect fork seals and noticed the left one was holding water (yikes)
Oiled the tach and speedo cables
Did a quick bulb check and made sure all bulbs in the instrument cluster and speedo/tach and tail were fine.
Removed non-working front directionals and made plans to find replacements
Replaced tach cable securing bolt (in cylinder head cover) due to questionable phillips head on it
Noted that rear 8x80mm fender mounting bolts were incorrect and ordered replacements on ePay.
removed points cover and noted that I needed new gasket
fixed broken 3mm bolt that screws into headlight lamp surround
Tested headlight beams
Polished chrome on fenders
Broke free the stuck engine from sitting (little kero in the plug holes and some patience)
smiled at the near NOS condition brown OEM seat sitting on this bike....
Wished my dad (who passed in 2010) was still around.  He was a Honda service manager in MA in the 70s and my go-to guy for Honda questions.  We started out restoring 305cc Scramblers and Superhawks.   Wish I had his input as I bring this one back to life....

Honda trims and badges would not hurt either (after no numbers 4-4 with all parts are sent from Yamiya)
Really nice color!
I'll take my CB750 back to bluish too, Candy Sapphire Blue, new parts waiting to be mounted since last x-mas. 4-4 + new ikon shocks + center stand will follow this spring.

Wonder how those side cover badges would look though as the stock indention has been filled in. They may sit out a little proud and want to snag pant legs etc..

Not to worry, Eric, epoxy works wonders.
BTW - the covers have not been filled in, they are Frankenstuff's "smoothies"

Is that really an action four pipe mate..?  That one isn't in my old catalog.. I'm not sure why exactly, but most,  if not all the aftermarket pipe manufacturers here made their pipes more upswept, like the Kerker, the rear footpeg mount sat under the rear of the pipe,  I think that may be the reason i can't get my head around those low slung style of pipe, low pipes are common in the States, not here at all..I actually like the bike without the trim   ;D ;)

Finished moving the foot controls from forwards to rears on my hardtail CB750

That is beautiful mate, but wouldn't it be more comfortable with forward controls? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Thanks Terry, it was comfortable with forwards.  But since I didn't find myself a project for this winter, I decided to rework this one.  It's now convertible I can flip from mid controls to forwards in about an hour.  We will see if she just as comfortable to ride this way come spring.  Cheers!

Took it out for a short spin today, before the cold weather hits.  Really like the throttle action now, no where near as tiring as before, and the Superbike grips / bar end weights / expanding foam in the handlebars seem to work pretty well together.  Like the way it sounds, and it's happiest spinning at or above 5K rpms, and seems like it will pull right up to redline without any issues.  Feel sorry for my '87 Cagiva, it's quickly being replaced by this CB!

Santa gave me a new helmet this year that fit the color of my new tank that I got last X-mas one year ago. I could have bought a new multi HP bike for the restore money spent so far. But there is no other bike out there I want except for old CB750 or Z1-900/1000 in OEM style.

I have to finalize my  engine/carb adjustments and install latest cam so I can mount the new tank with side covers. I do not want to take it off once a week and scratch it.

The new helmet look very tough with Irridium colored visir that I mounted today, not on photo.
