Finished clutch rebuild on my new to me 550 K2. New gasket as well as case screws w/anti seize,  and reinstalled cleaned up case cover. Replaced original clutch cable with new Motion Pro and new lever cable adjusters. Fresh K&N oil filter and 3L of Rotella 15-40. Fired up on 3rd kick, let warm up for a few minutes and off I went for our maiden voyage together. Shifts super smooth, strong power through all gears, tracks well down the road. Couldn't be happier with my winter purchase. It has been a frustrating few months, but the 5 minute ride was well worth the blood, sweat, and beers. I am pleasantly surprised by the power of the old 550. Used to ride modern sportbikes, so wasn't expecting much. Honda has made yet another happy SOHC owner!

I had a brush off with another deer this morning, luckily nothing but deer hair on my left knee -  I think I need to buy lottery ticket today.

You must need to wear some deer repellant,  that's twice in a couple years.  Glad to hear that you are OK again...Larry

Thanks, Larry.  I should have known, they always cross there, right at the neighbor's farm driveway.

Same here Stev-o.  I have hit two deer with a car, both accidents occurred at  dusk.  I am extremely aware at both dawn and dusk when riding.  Stay safe...Larry

Knocked a few things off my list this weekend...

Dropped the oil pan. Found little flakes of what looks like aluminum (probably from PO's drill and tap), and a bigger piece of something ferrous... Piece of piston ring (Not enough radius to be piston ring).  Anyone have an idea? Cleaned everything out, sprayed with engine degreaser  and scrubbed. Torqued the bolts down like a drum head (opposite sides, clockwise) to 75 in/lbs with a bit of Permatex Ultra Grey (AKA Hondabond) around the flanges to seal them off. Topped it all off with 3L of oil.

Also replaced fork oil. HOLY HELL that old stuff stinks. Opened the drain screws, bounced the forks till the holes were just farting, but not sharting. HAHA. Then added 160cc of 10W fork oil. I was able to keep my bars in place and use my adjustable wrench to get the caps out, using a 3/8 ratchet extension to keep pressure so the cap didn't fly off. (don't mind the white on the disk, just reflection of the flash)

Cut some channels into the brake pads, and rounded off the edges of the pads. Added some anti-sieze behind the pads to give a bit of lubrication, too. Lifted the front end and hit the disk with some 600 grit wet-dry to take some of the glaze off. Wiped it all down with brake cleaner, and called it a night.

Just got word last night that my cam towers and rocker shafts are going in the mail today! Looking forward to getting it all back together. Going to be doing touch-ups on the engine paint by hand. Using Duplicolor Engine Enamel in low gloss black, I will spray into a little bucket and paint with a brush... don't want any overspray on the valve cover.

Paying attention to detail revealed a few issues with new valve guide seals. I've had them for a few years and can't remember which store I purchased them from. The chips I was going to put on an exhaust and the split was on intake. I only noticed the split when I fed the valve through.

The weather was finally decent enough for me to take the 750 out and see how well the boyer ignition I had installed worked. It wasn't any sort of night and day difference but it definitely ran stronger and smoother and wasn't nearly as "cold blooded" when starting up cold. The only problem now is that while setting the timing a week ago the engine kicked backed while turning it over and the starter clutch took a beating so now sometimes the starter turns the engine over, sometimes it doesn't because the starter clutch is slipping so now I have to pull the alternator cover off and pull the flywheel to check it out.

I collected it from winter storage. Didn't do anything to it other than kicking it into life (battery was nearly drained). It had been standing with a danish product called BellAdd which acts as carb-cleaner and "water-remover" (dont know the english word for it).
Then I put some air in the front tyre and drove 150km's through 15-25 m/sec winds which mid-route threw a lorry on its side (but not me and the four :) ). On top of that it rained for about 80 % of the trip, while the temperature was 5-8 degrees C.

Now it stands waiting for the snow (!) to stop so that I can lubricate the chain, top off the oil, clean it, and RIDE!

14 bikes owned of those three 400F's. Now driving: '76 CB400F and a '83 Renault 4TL.

Check if all clutch fiber plates are OK, the ears. I had the outer ear broken twice back in the 80's when I got wrong clutch plates to my K6 that need 6 pltes look the same, the outer plate must have wider ear when the basket is wider. If not the outer clutch plate ear can brake. I did not see this problem when I trusted the companies I ordered from. They did not know CB750 clutch differencies.

EDIT:
About the piece of steel, no piston ring. Maybe from the bearings in the gearbox that have half -rings keeping them in position? Only possible if the crank case halves have been opened and not properly assembled.

New fuel lines on my CB750. Before cheap fuel hoses that did not like gasoline. Cheap hoses, probably from China sold by low cost part dealer.
Hoses from Gates, made in USA.  Gates Barricade 4219BF Fuel Injection Hose. Can handle gasoline, bio-fuel, methanol etc.
Wrote about it here, before and after. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,146431.0.html

Sorry no pics but worked on the everyday rider Honda 750 but , looked over and saw the 75 Kaw 900 Z1 sitting by my front door so wheeled it out and tossed a battery in. Over 60 today -Whoo Hoo . Open petcock and hit starter and game on. Purred to life with that evil old gas from last fall. Went to Sean B's shop and no one there but his Buddy and had a chat. Went out to a friends shop later who does old bikes and heard I just missed him. His shop is packed with work and he said he had not been for a ride yet this year. Tossed him the key and said go ride and chatted with his wife for awhile. When he returned with a smile I heard something about 80 in second gear and my 3/4 helmet with face shield I lent wanting to come off his head at 100 MPH. Guess He had a good first ride also   ;D ;D  I like the old 750's but there are other really good machines out there also  ;)  Back to the old girl soon and ---- Get'er finished
Sean you take it next if I can find you----- :-*

To be honest, I have not been that far into it. It is an '82 CB750C. This forum is what came up in a tapatalk search as the most active for the CB750 and I found posts covering the 81/82 model years at the top of the most recent posts. Looked like a good place to get info.

He's busting your chops- This site primarily deals with Singe Overhead Cam engines (SOHC4) and yours is a Double Overhead Cam Engine (DOHC4).

Theres still plenty of folks who know these bikes around these parts- Theres even a section of the forum Other Bikes for a model such as this if you need assistance or answers.

Welcome nonetheless and good luck with it!
