Gorgeous!

Thanks.

Love it with my lower Euro handle bar. Gives a new look and much better handling.
Doc, I love a motorcycle!

Finally closed up my engine!
It was an ordeal with pulled threads and having to move it out of the shop before it was finished.
Put helicoils in all the holes for the cam towers after I pulled three and one already had a new one. Works like a charm!

I need to torque down the clutch basket, but need a tool for it. Probably sort that tomorrow.

Going in the frame tomorrow for wheel alignment and other small things. After that it's time to put it all together!

Thanks! Super happy with the result.

Putting the sprocket cover on, just hadn't done so. Thanks for the tip! I'll do it in that order.

IAV...if you're lowering the frame over the engine, be really careful.  its easy to bump/crack the sprocket cover when the frame is going on (speaking from experience, here  ::) :'( )  leave both covers off until the engine is in the frame  ;)

That's a great tip! Was going to paper tape the hell out if it before doing so, but I'll do that as well!

Bought a 1960's Black Honda S90 (ain't she purdy) parts bike last weekend very cheap. Cool guy, has done some work for the picker Mike along with a guy in Grand Rapids as he is a car guy and he is not impressed with his cheapness  ;) He has some very cool stuff around.  I have a fairly nice titled example that needs a top end and the parts bike has an engine that turns over well. It still had a 69 plate attached and looks like the brake rod wrapped around the rear wheel and threw somebody down back then.
So this afternoon I chain sawed and trimmed some trees on my property and after making my pile for a future burn summoned up some more Manly energy and with the help of a cocktail or two started to break her down.
Dirty old thing but just what I needed to hopefully bring one back to life. Old picture of bike on the lift is the future happy recipient. Not much into the tiddlers but remember these machines a lot when I was a kid.

That was my first bike when I was  like 12 or 13. Bought it for $125 with my newspaper route money. Even rode it to deliver papers a time or 2 (no license for me or the bike,no horn, mirrors or anything else that resembled a legal street bike). Traded it up for a real peppy little Kawi 120 and then traded that up for a 305 scrambler.

Over the winter I rebuilt the motor on my cb750K5.  836 kit off of ebay, under cut gears from cycleX (was jumping out of second), MLS head gasket, all new gaskets and seals.  I was amazed that it fired right up!

I adjusted the cam chain, reset the timing, and balanced the carbs.
Then upon its first ride the oil light started to come on after it warmed up.  Crap!

So, I pulled the pump and replaced the o-rings, something I neglected to do before.  I also went with 20w-50 oil and a new filter.  Sill, once it warmed up the oil light would come on.  Crap!!!

So, I started reading, and of course all the worse case scenarios haunted me.  But, first things first.  Get an oil pressure gauge on there.

I order a 100 psi 1 3/8 diameter, 1/8 npi gauge off of eBay, $15.  Got it in the mail yesterday.
Went to the local hardware store, got a 90 degree brass fitting, a tap and drill bit.

Pulled the oil gally plug above the points cover, put it in the vice with some wood blocks as to not damage it.

Drilled a small hole to start.

Then the 11/32 hole.

A little tapping oil, my tap holder was too small so I had to improvise, and nice and slow, tapped the hole.

De-burred it and cleaned it up a bit.  Plus a little teflon tape and a new o-ring for the cap,

Mount it back up.

Fired the bike up, and got about 70 psi.  But that wasn't the problem, once it was warmed up the the light would go on.

Took her for a short test ride to get her warmed up.  Sure enough the light started to flicker.  But Good News!  I have oil pressure!

I had a weird instance once where the oil light would faintly come on only when the bike was in neutral. Was a little concerned but found out that a hole had become burned through the plastic housing that holds the light bulbs for the dummy lights and light was bleeding through from the neutral bulb into the red oil light bulb chamber. Dab of black RTV fixed it..

certainly bothersome to have that red light on when you know your oil pressure is ok.
I bet its a tired pressure switch.  test the electrical to the pressure switch.
light should go out when the bike is on and you ground it to the case...should go off when you remove from ground.

First, my high/low switch was a little loose where it would shut off if I pressed it to the right. Took it apart and cleaned it, added dielectric grease and assembled. Works like a charm now.

Second, tested out my new Randakks grips to see if that would eliminate my right hand going numb. Didn't do anything (although I love the grips...much more comfortable than my previous ones). I decided to do a new set of foot controls using the passenger pegs and mounting them where the stock location is, but a smidge farther back. Will test it out tomorrow. I can already tell less pressure is on my hands. Hope it does the trick.

Hey Dave...the round grips can be the worst for hand issues. even when fat and cushy.  A flat(er) grip will keep pressure on the pads of your hands, and off the nerve and blood supply lines.  If those don't work...go OURY.  ;)

It was between the Randakks and OURY. I've heard good things about both, but more people like OURY from what I've read. But...I just don't like the way they look! If my foot controls being moved forwards don't help, I'll look into OURY for sure. Can't have a numb throttle hand!

Fly is correct on the grip issue. I had the old school ones on my bike. Never had them before but they really killed my left hand. Numb and shooting pain. I cut them off today and will put my favorite grips on tomorrow. I have bought these for every bike I ride regularly.

Been getting sick of smelling oil burning when I pull up on my cb550F, so today I replaced the o ring in the oil gallery plug that's directly above the four exhaust pipes (below the points cover). Now I gotta get around to doing the gear lever shaft seal and the clutch cover gasket and I'll be fairly close to having a leak free bike!

Was headed out for about a 100 mile round trip, but she died on me 1/2 mile down the road. Blew the main fuse. Hopefully it was just its time, but I suppose I should start troubleshooting. Ugh!
