My soldered in starter button (momentary switch) hasn't been working for the last couple weeks.  The headlight would go out when the button was pushed, but the solenoid wasn't clicking. I started with the connections in the headlight bucket... cleaned them up and added some dielectric grease before reconnecting.  That didn't do the trick.  Pulled the solenoid out, checked resistance... good there.  Hooked up jumper wires from the solenoid to the battery (per the Honda service manual) and it did click.  So, I cleaned up all the connections to the solenoid and tried again.  Lo and behold it worked.  Hopefully, this issue doesn't become intermittent.

You want your headlight to be deactivated during startup as it reduces the draw on the battery.

Correct.... That was working as it should. It was being deactivated when I hit my button, which is why I didn't start my troubleshooting in the hand controls.

joeyvans,

Now if you want to keep it that way (Start Button working) I would like to suggest that you do the Hondaman Relay mods.  At least for the Start Button (and maybe the headlight ).

I have attached the schematics for the 750 K6 that show the wiring mods.

Thanks for the info, Charlie! I always forget to check Hondaman's online shop for goodies. My original starter button exploded when I switched handlebars last winter, so I have replaced it with a RadioShack momentary push button in the same housing. Works great, but probably isn't rated for enough amperage. I mainly use the kick start, but this relay should help. - Kyle

Kyle,

Glad I could help!

I also made up a schematic for the CB750 K1-4 that does not use the 2 position Start button (the one that disconnects the headlight when starting).  I am attaching that one to this message, just in case anyone else needs it.  :)

I bought another one. BMW R1100GS. Pics when I pick it up on the weekend. ;D
is it a runner.?.you..goes to summer...so be ready for the road.
..ve are going for snow my insurence ends at the 15 this month...then it 4 month Winter sleep....and fixing bikes inside in the shop/cave...thinking of a vinter bike ....

G'Day Mate, yep, it's a runner, registered until the end of January, has a full "Staintune" system, (worlds best stainless steel exhaust) the ECU's been "chipped", it's got a really cool Scott's steering damper, etc. The owner did a lot of dirt and sand riding, but has given up motorcycles, as he's getting a bit old. I hope I never get that old.

You're right, the weather is nice and warm in the cooler southern states of Oz right now, but hopefully I'll be able to ride the big BMW all year round. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yesterday... Put the 550 away for the year, as we probably had our final day in the upper 50's. On the ride to my father in law's heated shop, I figured I would do a quick high speed run on a less travelled highway. 99.6 mph on the GPS before I saw  a car in the distance. She'll do the ton, as I think there was a little bit left. I was pleased at the high speed stability. No wobble... just tracked perfectly. Great final ride of the year. Should be able to enjoy the bike much more next year, as my tuning is finally spot on.  - Kyle

The 99.6 mph was taken from the Garmin GPS max speed. My speedo runs fast too. I need to check my max throttle stop screw next time the carbs are off to be sure I am getting full throttle at full twist. I neglected that last time.

Well I finished work, then drove back to my hotel so I could get changed out of my business clothes and into jeans and a polo shirt, so I could take my new (to me) BMW R1100GS for a ride to Cooma, 80 miles away, for dinner.

The Monaro Highway is a great road with heaps of fast sweepers through the hills, and once I got out of Canberra there was very little in the way of traffic, so apart from the odd errant Kangaroo, very little danger. I had a great meal and a couple of icy cold beers at a Chinese restaurant in Cooma, then flew back to Canberra at indecent speeds, arriving around 8pm. All in all, a great evening! ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ha ha, you're absolutely correct Dwight, it's no show pony, but it's a brilliant bike to ride, and I was thinking (as you do) that if I had to get rid of my other 7 bikes and only keep this one, I'd still be happy, it just does everything they do so well, but better. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Terry, I just sold my r1100gs. It was a great bike! Goes real well off the sealed road too. I sold it because we were going to buy a house, but the house got sold out from under us. Now I have to get my cb500 together. Hope you enjoy yours! You better hold on to your "wang" for when you're too old to throw your leg over the gs.  ;D

Tore apart and rebuilt the forks, and polished up the fenders.
Big learning experience for me, but they had leaky seals, and it was time to learn.
I also learned that Honda will actually ship me some parts for a 77, including all of the gaskets, and the rubber spacers for the fender! Nice surprise there.
