You have to lay down for any kind of wind protection. These bullet fairings are more suited for low bars and rear sets. Ask me how I know!
Ha ha, you've got to love those old Bikini fairings Fred, I put one on my shiny new Chicken Yellow CB750F0 in 1978. (it was 3 years old before the dealer could find a sucker to buy it, they weren't a popular choice here "back in the day") The F was a "Super Sports", so with the fairing, some flat bars and a black 4 into 1 to replace the bulbous POS pipe that Honda put on them, it looked very sporty, indeed.
Not having rearsets wasn't a major problem, once at warp speed I'd throw my legs back and use the passenger footrests as rearsets. The other problem with fork mounted fairings is that they can make the bike very unstable at high speed. (as I found out) Suzuki was one of the first companies to release a bike with a Bikini fairing (the wonderful GS1000S) and most owners removed the fairings very early in the bike's lives, not because they were unattractive, but because they induced "Speed Wobbles".
If Mr Mike's looking for more of a touring style fairing commensurate with that bike, there must be a brazillion old Vetter's on ebay? Just remember not to ride too fast with one on mate, unless you're gonna fit some vintage crashbars too..............
