A little more progress  :) but never enough.....

Built the rear brake and installed plus installed the rear peg.
Dug out the stock exhaust. Wondering what a 1000 will sound like with the open header!!  ;D ;D ;D :o :o :o I KNOW it will SOUND kick ass but a MotoGP or a Delkevic will LOOK kick ass  8). Santa, are you listening?

Santa and I will play some more on Thursday and Sunday once I locate my exhaust studs and collars.

Where's the best (least expensive) source for intake boots? Need to get them ordered and on the way while I'm working over the next 2 weeks. I found a set for $75 at CB750Supply.com and stockers for ~ $85.  Just doesn't look right without carbs  ;)

My bike got a NOS tachometer while still available. The old good looking repaired one did not have same cool illumination as the speedometer. Tested and verified the correct purchase.

I looked at it and said "soon, soon you'll have an exhaust and you shall drink the petrol nectar of dead dinosaurs and you will roar like the mighty T-Rex!" OK I didn't really say that... but I can't wait to get and exhaust on the beast and fire it up!
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Looked at the 750....said "Some day I'll git those carbs back on and fire you up"

Looked at the 350, said.. "Some day I'll git you painted and exhaust and fire you up"

Looked at the 100 , said... "Some day I'll git you tore down, replace kicker shaft, and fire you up"

Looked at the Harley., said...."Some day, hell....Need to fire you up and go for a ride.....it's freaking 80 degrees out......wtf"  just a little rain today, not the typhoons we've had the last few days.
If it ain't raining, I'm riding.....~~{iii}?~~prost

I put the new bike cover on that Santa brought. it's a perfect fit on the cb750, it pulls on the repop K0 mirrors a little, only the lower mufflers show. The mate to it should cover the 400F loosely. They're all inside and dry but garages can be a scary place with rakes and bicycles and such. A comforter over the tank first makes  it nice and cozy.

Removed bad insulators from a rectifer and replaced them with shrink tubing and wrapped in silicon tape, tested with voltmeter #$%* is working noice. Soaked headlight bucket in brake fluid to strip paint. Soaked carb boots in xylene and wintergreen oil. They're super soft but the air intake boots swole up and now I'm uncomfortable. I hear they'll shrink back down to size in a day or two. Soldered new wires to a rear turn signal. Cleaned battery box, coils and oil tank with mineral spirits and brush.

I recently put my cover on too Don. When you're working on it for a few days it's not bad leaving the cover off. If it then sits dormant for awhile the dust takes over. Sometimes I cut wood in the garage and don't take much notice. After blowing out the garage with compressed air one day I did notice! It was covered with saw dust. Cover in use now.

Replacing the steering bearings on my '72 CB500 has long been on my list of assorted improvements. I hadn't noticed a notch, but there is some instability at higher speeds, so I just wanted to cross a few things off my list.

Got the front end off, pulled the steering stem, and what-do-you know — the PO had already installed a brand-new set of tapered bearings!  ;D Kinda disappointed that there was no point, I have to admit, but better to know that the last PO was taking care of 'er! On to other things...

While you're there you can clean them up and closely inspect the rollers. Then re-grease. They're probably OK if the old grease looks good and you didn't feel anything notchy or any looseness. Now you have around $50 that you were gonna spend on an all-balls kit that can go towards something else!

And unfortunately, I already have an (opened but new) Alls-Balls kit that I need to get rid of, or keep on the shelf for the next project to come along...

I've got a couple of vacation days now and am finishing the mounting brackets for the seat. I had to fab up a front and rear bracket and am using 1/4 turn fasteners to hold everything in place.

I'm also about half way through the carburetor rebuild process. Next on the list is to put the last one together and get them all mounted to the rack.

I finally, after almost 12 years of ownership, got a real set of side covers, emblems and matching paint for the K1.  I can't believe I put up with those crappy ones for so damn long!  I got the paint in a rattle can from VMR paints, and I'm really happy with it.  I thought about using my spray gun, but for a job this size I didn't really want to deal with that, and I don't regret my decision.  It was as simple as using any rattle can but with spray gun results, and the 2-part clear in a can was just as easy, and it's the same stuff you would mix yourself in a spray gun so It's just as durable.

Dig the Valley Green....wonder if the VMR will fade to match the tank in like 20 more years?  Ekpent has a clean pair that would probably match perfectly.  I know 'cuz I sold them to him.
