Charged the battery and started the bike.  27 degrees F. foot of snow in the ground.   Haven't had it started since early Decemeber.  I let it run on choke until it started complaining and then opened her up. I kept it running until the exhaust stopped producing fog.

got another hour or two with the motor this morning, pulled all the bolts i could find on the bottom of the motor, then all the bolts i could find on the top of the motor then tapped gently with a nice gentle rubber hammer. no go.
rather than forcing the issue i investigated further and discovered one more bolt hiding under the starter motor cover, undid that then mrs spotty called me away to spend a fruitful day painting granny's house.....
work tomorrow but day off tuesday so we shall see what happens then

Got a box with parts to my CB750 from David Silver.
One package was extra fun when it was NOS part with old package before the barcodes.
These old NOS packages will be collectables too? :)

The good higher fork seal, 13mm version that replaced the earlier 11mm model that had a washer. The 14mm version explained in Bulletine 1974. Same model I bought 1980 and 1984.I remember the harder and tougher seal.

I'm very surprised that the crappy 11mm model is the one that most dealers sell. I bought them 2012, 2013. Got a leak direct. Replaced with the 13mm version that is really tight and clear which side up. I have 3 sets of the better one, just for sure.
Honda replaced the 11mm version over 40 years ago. Why still on the market?

I'm in the process of mocking up the electrical system. Today I finished building a mounting plate for the rectifier. I ended up removing the mounting ears for the original voltage regulator and rectifier to make room.  I wish I had thought through this modification before I had the battery tray and voltage regulator mount plate powder coated the first time....

I used the two holes at the bottom of the battery tray and the right mounting ear for the fuse box as the main mount points.  The fuse box ear sits about .25" above the surface of the battery box so I added a .25" spacer to each of the bottom mount points to get the spacing right.  I'm not sure how warm the rectifier gets in operation but the gap created should give it some extra airflow anyway.

I'm thinking about shortening up the leads coming from the new rectifier to keep the installation tidy.  I'll probably have to do the same on the wiring harness side.  So, next on my "need to have" tool list will be a good quality crimper!

Here are a couple of pics of what I ended up with.

finally got the two halves of the motor apart (kept taking bits off the sides until it wanted to come apart, gear selector stuff etc) and there appears to be no obvious damage or wear, i can see no reason why the kicker locks up when the motor is complete....hate hate hate
there is, as far as i can see, no damage, missing bits, broken bits anywhere near the kicker mechanism so i shall go out and give the whole thing a thorough looking over for any signs of wear/damage to the cases to indicate where the shards of alloy came from (stuck to the oil pump pickup screen)
on a more positive note, i got absolutley nowhere with the front end after much bfarting round with axles/spacers/etc as i discovered i need to have the discs bolted up with the speedo drive retainer as well as the speedo etc to get the final spacing and because i'm going twin discs (with GSXR calipers) the old bolts are a cm too short so new ones of them before the weekend and maybe get the front end finished ....
i blame Terry

Back to it. Dropped by Honda this morning to pick up my 12mm hose. 95005-1200120M. 12 X 1000 = 12MM X 1000MM = ~ 4' which is enough for all the hoses on 1 bike, mine anyway. Got all those cut and attached.

Put the carb bank together. Smooth and clean. Terry has scared the #$%* outta me about the bead blasting but I gotta try. I sprayed the passages with brake cleaner and hit them with compressed air from both sides. We'll see, keeping my fingers crossed. The larger passages shouldn't be an issue.

Installed my new carb boots and the carbs went on relatively easy.

Went looking for the throttle cables..... Uh Oh! No cables. #$%*!! Did I mention #$%*!! Oh well, there's still stuff to do. That's a jug of oil and fork oil. Need to do that. May as well order a new wire harness with the throttle cables and a new right side control so I know I'll have a good starter button. Worked a bunch extra lately  ;D Gotta run a new fuel line from the petcock too. Clean up and install the air cleaner box with new boots. Bleed brakes. Hang the Dyna III box. Install the chain. May start with a stock seat in place of the Corbin?? Fire this 1000cc #$%* up soon.  ;D

Now for any of you that wish to replace that bottom unobtainium drain tube on the little catch container on the vent lines you may want to try ordering this. It's a little long but just cut it off  ;)

Thanks Mick. Give me your idea of bars. Link me up. I really wouldn't mind a modern GSXR (?) front end down the road but that'd delete the Lesters and the period look. The way I figure it I have my restomod original owner stock 75 with an upgraded engine so why not do a hot rod?!

Looks great Jerry, just make sure you've got another set of good carbs on hand for it for when your worst fears are realised and your engine runs like shiite. (Ask Hondaman if you're still not sure, he explained how I'd destroyed my carbs by bead blasting them) No amount of carb cleaner and compressed air will move that mountain of glass beads jamming up your carb's tiny circuits.

I definitely wouldn't put modern forks on it unless you're gonna go the whole hog and do a wider swingarm, modern wheels and brakes at both ends etc. Superbikes bars would be good, I remember the horrible factory ape hangers that were on my F0 when I bought it new back in the 1970's, they lasted about a week before I replaced them with flat bars and a "Stone" fairing. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

When I bought my magnificent BMW R1100GS, it had been set up by John, the PO, and probably the PO's before him, for long distance dirt road touring, so the more I remove from it, the more I like it.

John had built a really practical, but thoroughly fugly rack to take lots of aftermarket soft luggage, but it looked a bit too industrial for my tastes, so today I removed the last of the home made racking, and installed a new Hepco and Becker topbox, which will be about all I'll need, it'll be especially handy for picking up groceries. Cheers, Terry. ;D

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis
