Put my carbs back together. All new Honda brass and rubbers, DIY zinced hardware and powder coated everything else.

Unfavorable exchange rate for them. I just followed the Weber link to the videos. An Aussie operation. They have NEW Webers DCOE40's at AU$539 which makes them damn near US$400! Send me a pair Terry!

Send me the link Jerry and I'll buy us both a set! Cheers, Terry.;D

Worked on the K3 Park Racer's frame today.  The bike came to me with a "frame kit" installed, I did not feel good about it. It was basicly two pipes insented into the frame attached with bolts. And not tied into the main part of the frame...

I contacted forum member Bobco and luckily he had a donor frame that he could cut apart and sent me this...

I had a "Frank's Weldless Frame Kit" on the shelf waiting so with a little cutting and drilling four holes, it was an easy install and I feel a lot better about the integrity of the frame.

Next, I'll pull the motor, hopefully by next weekend and send the frame out for blasting and black powdercoat.

Looks like you might want to send that motor out with the frame!

Stripped the top triple tree with aircraft stripper and initial polishing.

Derusted the bolts with Metal Rescue overnight. Big Difference between what I derusted and the untreated fork caps. Great product but takes some time to work.

Daddy likes the polished triple for his resto-mod.

Is the bottom triple the same cast aluminium?

Thought it looked like cast iron... :(

But I sure do like that they're overbuilt like a brick #$%*house and almost everything is repairable...not like modern disposable products.

I don't know about that... Ever noticed how many uppers are cracked due to too much clamping pressure? As for the lowers, cast iron isn't a terribly elegant material. But modern cast triples will break/crack when they've encountered curbs and other vehicles in front end collisions. I haven't seen nearly as many crack due to "clamping pressure" applied though. Some of that has to do with the design change of the clamping miss itself. And better tolerances to fork OD.

Impacts aside...a torque wrench is a wonderful tool! ;)

...and in the case of these bikes also using the factory halfmoon washer in the clamp space probably helps too! :)

Thanks, now that it's running great I really like it!  I've really got the bikes packed in right now since I lost storage space.

Sunday when the engine was cleaned and ready for the fun part, assembly.
Sprayed white spirit and brushed the case to remove oil and outer dirt. Next step in the washing room, brush with water, dish washer powder in it.
Extra muscles (oven cleaner) on places where the dirt with oil was not removed.
Finally rinsed with water and blown dry with compressed air, oil channels extra important.

Bottom case on work bench waiting to get the case ball bearing replaced. I hope it willl fall out after heating up the case. New freezing cold to be dropped in. Need shorter days at my job and more in my garage to get all together before end of april.

The old gaskets need to be scratched off. Not good idea to add sealer on them, hondabond...

The half moon washers (or lack thereof) is the reason our old triples get busted, usually by noobs. "Clamping Pressure" has got fcuk-all to do with it, the 6mm bolts would snap before the triple if the half moon washers were in place. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Cheers,
Kenzo

Quick ball bearing replacement in lower case when it went as planned!   :)  Heat gun made case warm, ball bearing fell out with help of a heavy bolt with nut and a finger knocked the nut.  Very smooth, no force at all.
The other way worked perfect when the new frozen bearing fell in and bottomed the seat in the warm case with a nice klonk!  :) A small  help of a alu pipe with same diam as outer race

I remembered the threads whith guys having problems with replacing the neutral switch. The shift drum must not be seated all the way in, the neutral switch will hit the drum. In with the neutral switch with oiled 183 o-ring on, pull the drum a little and the switch has free way to bottom. I used a socket of same diameter and a gentle tap with a rubber hammer.

Next step is the primary chains and crank and verify the clearances with brown shells. If too tight I'll use my good greens.
Double check the gear shift function and no missing/misplaced small parts in the trans,  gear selector....Hopefully tomorrow after work.

Got it inspected!  Tomorrow a plate!
Still need to adjust the clutch a bit and I need to recheck the petcock since it sputters unless it's set to reserve.
Five freakin' years it took me to finish this!  Hope the XS650 doesn't take as long.... ::)

Looks good, congrats.  Why not register as an antique? No inspection needed and plate is good for 5 years, only $60.

Why don't you sell me that XS, I bet I can get it on the road quicker than 5 years!

Well done mate, always good to see another one back on the road!

Last night I decided that I've been ignoring my BMW R1100GS for too long, so I hopped on and rode 90 miles to Yass and back for my weekly Chinese meal, washed down with a couple of icy cold beers.

Speaking of icy cold, so was the weather once the sun set in the hills, and my mesh jacket wasn't up to the task, so I was a little chilled by the time I returned to my little apartment. Still, any ride's a good ride, and the battery's fully charged. Cheers, Terry. ;D
