Well,
After completing the PAMCO wiring to coils yesterday, and following the good advice here on break in procedure
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=12686.0, I squirted a little fuel down each fuel line to see if my freshly built CB836 would start.
Wow.
The darn thing ROARED into life at the merest touch of the starter button, and I mean FULL REVS!
Ignoring the sudden need to wee, I grabbed for the idle screw and frantically would it down (and flipped off the choke) and by then it had used the fuel in the lines anyway. So it runs, that is for sure. I was a bit concerned about the way it was stopping, as in - as soon as there was no fuel it just stopped cold and let out a little wheeze.
I really want to make sure I get good oil pressure which is why I have been assiduously following the recommended pre lubing and breaking in process. Last thing I want to do is over cook it.
So - no more running for today, it had two quick bursts at around 15 seconds each. I am turning it over by hand to make sure it all still moves well, it turns okay on the points nut but it is still stiff on the kick start. I guess it will free up on the kicker once it beds in (yes?).
Why was I squirting full down the fuel lines and not running off the tank you ask? Well - my freshly painted tank has pin holes in the underside (!!!) so I need to take it to a welder and get them fixed next week, then probably get it repainted after the welding has (most likely) spoilt my paint job.
Ah well - at least my bike starts - I am a very happy owner.
