Yesterday I pulled apart the front end of the 550. I had to get new fork tubes since one of them looked like the lunar surface just above the seal. Today I am installing the tapered roller bearings on the tree and start polishing the sliders while I wait for the tubes. Over the last week I finished fitting a tail cone to the stock seat pan. I also added a little to the front of the seat. It is a little over an inch arching over the middle. I also took about five inches out of the middle of the rear fender so I could keep the finished edge. There is just enough left to mount the plate.

Another beautiful Autumn day here, so took the Triumph Rocket III out for a quick 120 mile ride on some of my favourite roads. I was just tooling along, minding my own business when a group of other bikes appeared behind me. That was fine, but their lead rider made the mistake of overtaking me, which of course is considered a challenge in my tiny brain, so I returned the favour and passed him @ around 100 MPH.

He obviously thought that 100 MPH was the outer limit of my "Cruiser", not realising that my 2300cc Rocket is more "Bruiser" than "Cruiser", so he attempted to overtake me again, but by this time I'd accelerated to around 150 MPH, and he'd run out of forward motivation, so while he could take the corners quicker than I could on my 800 pound behemoth, I was able to make up more ground as soon as I exited each turn, and within a few miles, I'd left him for dead.

Now this might not have been the smartest idea considering my 12 year old bike is still rolling on it's original 12 year old tyres, but the road was nice and warm and dry, and the big beast felt nice and secure, even when I was going thru 50 mph bends at twice the posted speed. On the way back I stopped at the "Black Saturday" memorial to all the folks who were killed in the fires on the 7th of February 2009. It was very sobering, knowing that so many people died so close to where I was standing.

Rocket III Ride Saturday 9 March 2019 1 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I had a mishap on my return to the storage facility, the big bugger slipped on the aluminium ramp as I was putting it back into the shipping container, and as it fell towards me, I managed to snap the clutch lever. This became a bigger problem as the engine had stalled with the bike in gear half way up the ramp, so I had to hold the bike up (it didn't fall all the way over, thank God) and find neutral without letting it roll backwards off the ramp, and once in neutral, I had to push it up the ramp into the container. I had to use all my strength to do this, and was buggared once the adrenaline dissipated. Oh well, was still a great day, so not spoiled by one busted clutch lever. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Replaced the old fuel hoses, ran them nicer and used hose clamps! (Need a 4000% leak free for my peace of mind) and went to change out the 30 year old spark plugs. (Bet Itll run so much better now)

However cyl 2 proves to be non compliant. My socket is too fat it seams, grinding it down helped but still no win.
Besides an original toolkit any tips and tricks? Ill go down to the shops and find the thinnest socket I can tomorrow but advice is helpful!

Started both bikes and let them idle simultaneously. I revved them one by one. My K2 with Yamiya no numbers 4-4 and stock engine (K7 cam) sounds hotter than my very modified K6 with 4-2-1 and probably double rwhp :o

I had before that replaced the oil pump on my K6, another restored pump that was cleaned, seal kit and lightly sanded valves if not moving easy.

I found that KN oil filter might be something to avoid. I placed it in filter cover around bolt, spring and washer before filter which make it needed to press filter inwards around bolt so it can find threads in case.

The rubber seal on filter just popped out when bolt sit tight inside and filter cannot be moved inwards without pressing out the seal.  This WILL let debris to bypass the filter reaching crank/rod bearings and oil orifices in head. I used another filter, red box made in Japan, MIW that is like a filter should be. Even Emgo filter keep seal in place
It might work if the bolt is only turned around, but the spring will press filter out so it is difficult to mount the filter without pressing the entire assembly when let the bolt to enter the thread. But I can never be sure that the seal is OK.

I had oiled seals, bolt and o-rings before assembly as always. I have never seen this before on other CB750 oil filters. I always press filter in-out around bolt before assembly to make sure that spring is working and nothing bad with filter.

I tested the filter again afterwards with another oil bolt. Seal popped again, flipped filter and it did not pop out. Flipped again and could press filter in-out-in without seal coming out.

Conclusion:
Very important to oil the rubber seals on oil filter and exercise it on bolt some strokes to make sure the seal is seated, not coming loose when mounting the oil filter assembly with cover on crank case,  risk that oil orifices will be plugged..... the entire valve train with cam and holders up in dust.

My K6 finally got passenger foot peg which it lost when the Hindle 4-2-1 went on occupying the foot peg mount in frame.
I found them last year on Yamiya when order other stuff. Not the cheapest but a steardy construction and needed.
http://www.yamiya750.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=246_251_142_88&products_id=3721

This bike is ready for the street. It woke up yesterday and started to run well after 10 sec sputtering on 2 -3 cylinders. Last run was October 22 2018. Fuel in carbs no problems. The garage is warm and dry. Constant 21-24*C. It might have had some fuel additive before sleep (Red Line SI1 Fuel System Cleaner. I used it after too rich jetted carbs carbonizing engine.

Edit: Min distance of sticking out from foot peg assembly to swing 50mm. I calculated that based on the shocks max stroke that make an angle back to swing arm bolt, easy to calculate the height at that distance where mounted, 46 mm if I remember correct. I do not want that the mount will hit swing if bottom out. Triangles on math lessons 45 years ago are useful sometimes ;)

i had the same..use a red filter..of low cost brand...mu first thorth vas to glue the rubber seal..as it seal fine first in place..its just the montage vho is a bit dangerus...think they comes from china..and is sold in many brands

i kan not speak english/but trying!!

Trailers my F1 and my buddy's F3 down to my sister's where I will be dog sitting a couple days. Took Monday and Tuesday off to get some quality garage time. This evening I took a moment to fit up the Memphis Shades fairing I bought at a swap meet a a couple years back. I had intended to use it when I rode out to Colorado in 2017, but ran out of time to fit it properly. It should be a nice low key add to my 750 for trips this summer.

I took the Sabre out for a ride around my test loop by Lake Goodwin. The county has swept the roads after the last couple of rounds of snow. It was a little chilly so back to working on the 550 and my buddy's 79' 750F.

I found another spot for the kz1100 inside because it was going to rain, and I needed to move the dragster. It stopped raining today and I rolled the gl1000 outside to make room to work. I got the motor/trans back in and mostly bolted up. I did remember to put the gl inside before I went in the house.  Now to fold up the cherry picker and roll it into a cubby hole.

Spent the weekend riding the Oxley Highway between Wauchope and Walcha. This has to be one of the best MC roads in the state 9NEW South Wales), if not the country. Had a real blast on the FJ1200. Not a chaser in sight either.

Yes, but I imagine it blocks the wings quite well.  At least it's a bar mount,  so unlike a Vetter easy to remove for day-to-day riding.

One of my 750F's that I bought came with a bar mount National brand windshield and it was horrible. Made a lot of weird turbulence and noise behind it and always wanted to lift my helmet. Because it was bar mounted it also made the front end very twitchy at moderate to high speed causing head shake etc.. Took it off and it rode like a dream and quieter also. Same problems with a bar mount National that came with my GSX1100G.
Hopefully yours being more streamlined Danny won't cause any ill side effects.

I used a bar mounted windshield on both my 550's over thousands of miles with no issues, I think the more streamlined one I have here should be fine. But I'll know for sure in a few weeks when I can finally get it out for a ride.

I mounted up the Delkevic after picking it up from the ceramic coater this morning. It looks great, but my Kerker muffler doesn't come close to working. It's the right size for the collector end, but the angle simply won't work. Time to order the matching muffler from Delkevic.

There's a bloke here in Melbourne who sells NOS genuine Honda parts on Ebay Mazza, he goes by the name of "Grooveyguru" and his stuff is reasonably priced without ridiculous international shipping charges. I did a check of what he's got for sale, couldn't find a CB750 switch, but he did have a very similar one for a Honda Dax of the same era.

He may well have a CB750 switch though, I've asked him for  various parts and he's had them in stock, just not on Ebay. ;D https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Honda-ST70-Dax-SS50-S110-Ignition-Switch-Vintage-35100-065-007/122001599386?hash=item1c67dcab9a:g:pLEAAMXQXQxRZF~l&frcectupt=true
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ran new fuel lines all good, went to turn the key and nothing, dead as a post.
Battery 12.6, fuses okay hmmm,

Dead ignition switch  :(
Wont switch the black and red (Power and earth wires) so to get a new one

Discovered that the plug wires for the Accel coils I got with my F3 parts bike are missing the coil connector. I can order some, but that means no testing the setup for another week or so.

Doubled up the weather seal on the panniers.
