I am not a good welder myself. In fact i own 3 grinders!!!!

The apparent culprit (well other than me being the causative agent). After talking with Mike he suggested this as a possibility. Large over size valve hitting a large over size TDC tool. The 5mm stem kit can't take the hit like the stock 6.5mm valves. Looks like I need to make a TDC tool from a spark plug unless someone has another suggestion other the obvious be gentle

#$%* Bill, as many times as I've had this sum#$%* apart I should be on a NASCAR pit crew haha. I have a Gordon frame kit installed. Took me about 2 hours.

Considering none of the other valves kissed and this head and cam ran for 135 miles previously it became process of elimination. A WTF moment. Hoping to have it together for the AMA event unless I do something else

The 5mm stem valves are more flexible. I was a little bit worried first.
I checked TDC without rockers or cam sprocket bolts. I noticed how the advancer unit T lined up with case mark, piston 4 at top. Lined up well with advancer at max counterclockwise position of its play. Same with 2 different crank shafts with advancers.
I was sure to bend valves with piston stop and valves lifted by cam.

I set ignition according to real TDC too which will follow advancer in correct position. Advancer at max clockwise will end up in too advanced ignition and run sh!t on low rpm and might ping if not compensated with too rich carbs.

My Dyna 2000 "T" 1-4 lines up perfectly with the case "arrow". Now that I know that I won't be bending any more valves

Expecting/hoping to have the head back first of the week. That gives me the weekend free for the Airstrip Attack this weekend. 1/2 mile top speed runs. Spectator. I should have enough time after to get it back together so I can go watch the Pikes Peak Hill Climb the following weekend before loading up for AMA Vintage Days.

Yeah, I probably just shot myself in the foot! haha

Not that big problem after all. I recently saw a CB750 head with piston at the shop nearby that had a 5mm stem ex valve sitting like a crashed UFO burried into the top of the piston. The disc only.
Its seat was removed and was waiting to get a new seat and fix the head.

The engine started to sound strange, owner did not shut it off soon enough. Cam holders came loose. I do not know for sure, I guess over tightened M6 bolts holding them. Valve cover with supporting bolts should not be needed nowadays, right?
Especially not the 5 mm valve kit that has not as stiff springs as the stock 6.5 mm stem valves racing springs.

One of my favourite bikes Don, what were you doing, selling it? I had a minty T250 (deceased estate) back in the 90's, I reckon it would frighten the pants off a CB750 rider in the twisties!

I rode the 73' CB500 that I have been resurrecting for the last three months. It hasn't been ridden in over ten years but now everything works and it rides like a new bike.

Laid down the base coat on the tank and color on the side covers. Tonight and tomorrow will be the rest of the color and the clear.

Yes, it came with the 750A I bought. A fellow in Ca. 2600 miles away wants it and is getting shipping quotes. If he doesn't buy it for $100 taken apart. I'll Ebay it in pieces. He used to race a 250 and always wanted the 315 engine. My brother rode an X6 back in the day. His boss's son had it in college, they flew my brother to florida and he rode it back. Kept it here for a while, my first ride was on the back of it. Our mom turned gray watching us leave after my brothers near fatal bike wreck in Japan.

Inspected the brakes, carbs, cam chain tension, valves, wiring, cleaned and wiped down everything I could.

My first new bike was a 250 X6 Hustler. and my only other 2 stroke was an RD350LC.

Yesterday I ordered a Nissin radial master cylinder from Parts Giant in Grand Rapids via Ebay, $139 shipping included. Today I received notice that it will be delivered today. That kind of service was worth mentioning

Side covers cleared and blue laid down on the tank plus a couple intercoats of clear. Did have a minor setback when the tape I used to mask off where the stripes will go took off a portion of the basecoat and primer. The issue appears to be that a layer of glazing putty I had used in that spot didn't stick. I should be able to deal with it tonight though and get the gold down and do my final coats of clear.

I also installed the new right side control and the new front master. I need to hook up the electrics for the control, but I also have the HondaMan starter switch saver relay to install at the same time. The master is just on the bar, but I haven't added fluid and bled. That will be done tonight in-between coats of paint. By tomorrow afternoon the clear should be dry enough to put the tank back on and weather permitting ride up to Motoblot. I will take care of the wet sanding and buffing on Monday then hit the road Tuesday for 10 days finishing up at Mid-Ohio the weekend after the 4th.

My first new bike was a 250 X6 Hustler. and my only other 2 stroke was an RD350LC.

My first bike was an X6 too. I bought one last year...

And my RD. Love the Smokers!!! The exhausts last forever...

No word from the buyer yesterday. I really didn't think shipping a parts bike to Ca. made sense. I'm betting he finds a bike shipper and wants it rolling again! I didn't know my brother repaired X6's at the Oldsmobile garage on weekends. They usually had second gear torn out. I think the owner sold Suzuki's next door.

A first for me, I fixed my steering lock.

I can't remember ever having one before on a CB750, I was cleaning the bike when I noticed it still had one.
So I gave it a good clean through with WD40 and had a play with the selection of keys that came with the bike.
After much poking andf jiggling the lock freed up and I was delighted to discover the seat lock key matched.
Its a pitifull excuse for a lock, but adds to originality I guess.

Spent the morning in the tax office getting the title and registration cleared up then headed home to stare at a partial bike. I'm still waiting for a call back on some new, less lengthy forks, so I decided to put the +4 overs back together and get them back on the bike and go run an errand. Overall a good day.

Worked until 1:30am, but got the paint done on the tank, although not without yet more challenges, but it needs to be done, so it is. I also bled the master cylinder and installed the starter button saver relay. The bike turns over fine, I'll see later today when I put the tank back on if it starts. Hopefully this afternoon I'll be riding it to Motoblot.

After some project swap wheeling and dealing with Spotty, I brought another one home, along with a little BSA 250 that's older than I am. Sweet.
