Thanks Bill, yeah I’m stoked to find a good one in original condition that I could afford, I had a terrible day on Monday when something at work went terribly wrong that turned out to be something that someone else had fcuked up, so it was almost like the gods had taken pity on me yesterday.

They are a comfy bike, and almost bulletproof, they did have one issue with poor top end oiling but I can see that there’s a kit available to fix that, that only takes about 15 minutes to install so I’ll buy one, and anything else that it needs to make it as reliable and enjoyable as my first one was. I’m excited! ;D

Terry….. Parrallel lives again! I also swore “no more bikes” until I finish my three current projects. Then I stumbled on this. Today an unsolicited enquiry on my mothballed K8 got the gears turning……..

Gritted my teeth all day under and over and in my 750 trying to find a misplaced tappet nut, as I’m sure you have all read, only to find it resting casually on the cam chain tensioner when I took it out. I’m glad I put some shop towel under it before I tried to retrieve it because it was only held in place by oil friction.

It ain't no show bike, it's a dirt bike. ::)
I only know one way to go through a bike so it's safe to ride. It will be dirty quick enough. I'm going to make a pilot box for the wiring that goes in the headlight bucket. That way I can leave off the lights, turn signals and gauges while the boy learns to ride. Right now I have him training on his bmx bicycle until the bike is done.
Once done we'll get out the tractor and make some trails in the wooded 2.5 acres behind the shop for him.

Nice bike John, and much more user friendly than my XR500RE, which was a pig to start. Lucky for me, on the day I sold it, it started first kick from cold, and the buyer was so impressed he almost threw the money at me. He didn’t see the bruises under my foot from the previous day's attempts…. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

It's a miracle it stayed perched there and didn't cause catastrophic failure!

Chopped the sh1t out of a perfectly good battery box.
That's the battery I'm going to use, a 5ah will work perfectly well for kickstart only
It is turned 180 degrees so the battery will face outward. Next is to rebuild the lower half to fit the little battery and then mount the minimalist electrics on a plate above the battery
i blame Terry

Learned the shear strength of my 4043 welded and tapped threads was not up to snuff for the cylinder studs.
So there's a helicoil in the block now.  Really shoulda done the stress test before putting the two halves together.  Managed a pretty clean job with tape and rags and q tips.
J•B welded that insert to its new home and got the rest of the engine assembled.
The big mystery cam is set neatly near the stock timing mark for now.  Ample clearance for initial start up.

I moved it to the opposite side of the street to avoid a parking ticket.

I haven't ridden it in a few days. I'm waiting for a "good" petcock to arrive so I can install these new float valves, they keep getting gritty and stuck open. It's perfectly ridable with a minor gas leak, I make jokes to people that it's pouring one out for the homies, but I don't think it's very good for the motor to have a fuel level that high.

Changed out this old battery on the K1. Went to go for a ride and nothing! 6 years old, so no real complaints.

You can’t complain about that John, I’ve had Yuasa batteries that lasted a year. The black  Motobatt’s are fantastic, the one I put in my Sportster in 2016 is in my Rocket III now, and has never let me down, nor has it seen a trickle charger in its life. ;D

A buddy of mine (very snobby BMW owner) swears by the mottobatts. I would try one, but don’t want to give him the satisfaction!

I feel your pain mate, I'm also a BMW owner and am a member of the BMW club here since 1991, but there are certainly some "characters" in the club, hence my not attending a meeting or a club ride in 30 years. I only stay in the club to keep my "Club" plates for all of my other old bikes. ;D

Replaced petcock, blasted carbs out, installed OEM float valves and corrected fuel level.

Then I went to get something to eat, ran into my recently estranged wife, and proceeded to get so drunk I had to leave my bike and get a cab home.

PD42A carbs in frankly sparkling condition came in, so I took the OEM floats of my crap carbs and put them in the “new” ones, moved the jets over, adjusted fuel height, bike runs like a dream even having only bench synced. Will be vacuum-syncing this morning.

Can I do this on the side stand? My bike doesn’t have the center stand, and my motorcycle stand it inaccessible right now.

Use a screw Jack or a stack of wood under the right side and shim up the side stand. It’s important to be fairly level so the float levels are where they “normally” sit…….

Good to know, cheers.

New carbs and petcock have solved every issue this bike had. No more hanging or climbing idle, no more stumbling under heavy load, no more leaking, no more having to adjust the idle screw at every stoplight. It just … works.

Now I just have to get a chain guard to keep oil from flying all over my tire

I use a 2" thick piece of wood under the sidestand to make it sit almost vertical. Stable to not tip over.
Wooden plank 2" thick is usually 45 mm in reality.

Same when syncing carbs letting it idle for a while. A fan blows from front.

My K2 has centerstand for show, too tricky to use on flat concrete floor. Side stand there too.

Been batching up smaller jobs on the Cb750’s. Tackling a repair on the Sandcast speedo gauge drive spigot. Had to sacrifice the threads from a spare diecast unit I had to repair the Sandcast unit. Luckily all went to plan. I f*ing hate parting off stuff on the lathe at the best of times; doing it on an irregular shaped speedo drive was fun..
