On Tuesday afternoon we had a rare August "cold" front roll through, woke up yesterday and it was a glorious 73 degrees. The last ride I went on, the temp was 104!

Rolled some of the bikes out and decided to take the little Kaw 500 for a ride...

Looks great Steve, I’m looking forward to some warmer weather so I can return to my two H1 projects. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Pretty chesty tank, definitely would need some paint, a lot of people would never know what it came off of...you could make up some great stories for it to pull people's leg who were none the wiser.

It is a love child of some BMW tank and a Ducati... Tell them it was a prototype tank you got from an ex works team manager that some group tested... Or some such flaff

Painted and switch out my top triples today. Outside of course so I can leave the lift open for my pals Softail. Didn't realize there was a difference between 550 and 500 top triples till today.
I realize the tubes are uneven nothing is at it's finals stage yet.  I just wanted to get it on there.

New shocks!

I went with Progressive Suspension. I'm really liking the fresh black paint paired with the 41 year old patina everywhere else except the exhaust. I'm aiming to unchrome the bike, because I'm not a fan of black + chrome. I wouldn't mind more brushed aluminum or a more general matte finish on some hardware. Getting there.

Today we finished up the 74' CB 550 K0. The float valve on #4 carb got stuck so we got it cleaned out. We got it running but no time for a test ride today. It still needs the new rings broken in so the next step is a couple of good rides to get it done.

Spotty and I had a great day yesterday working on my other Triumph Rocket 3 and his K7 "Dirtbike" project. I took this pic of a couple of his other bikes.

Rocket iii Saturday 26 Aug 2023 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

I'm slowly gathering parts together to clean up the R3. I bought the red sidecovers from a US seller who was wrecking a 2005 R3 with low mileage. Am very happy with them, a PO scratched up the chrome covers and rattle canned them, and a lot of other parts a crappy matte black, ad cut a hole in the left one for a crappy ignition switch, the red ones are one heck of an improvement, and match my OEM paint. The paint is unblemished, the marks are just reflections.

Rocket iii Saturday 26 Aug 2023 2 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

We replaced the super long brake hoses with new Wezmoto hoses that are just the right length. I need to buy shorter throttle and clutch cables, when I bought the bike it had stupid high ape hangers, so with the Honda bars that are on it now, the cables are too long. We also temporarily installed an after market coolant expansion tank to the crashbar, as the OEM item looks pretty ugly.

Rocket iii Saturday 26 Aug 2023 7 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

All up it looks pretty good. I've just ordered new coils and will order the shorter cables today.

Rocket iii Saturday 26 Aug 2023 5 by Terry Prendergast, on Flickr

We also installed new tapered roller steering head bearings on Spotty's K7, and once I modify his top triple clamp (front end off CB900) to accept some dirt bike handlebars, he'll be able to roll it around while he fabricates some new parts for it. All in all, a good productive day in his shop. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

That Rocket look really good, Terry!
Look comfortable and I can imagine the brutal torque with less need to gear down when in need to accelerate.

You and Spotty are the "Rocket Guys/Men", right? ;D

Can you stay away from buying another one if you see a project Rocket for a good price?

Thanks Per, I'm really enjoying getting it back into shape, little by little. No I won't buy another one, this one has given us both enough headaches, I'll just be happy to get it to the stage where it's reliable. Not there yet, but running out of things that need replacing..... ;D

Today we cut 2" off the 84' VF 700S Sabre. I still need to do a little more filing to smooth up the edge. It was too tall after I broke the last 2 vertebrae and lost an inch to go with the inch I lost when I broke the first 2 vertebrae. It was a little nerve wracking cutting a 41yo thin windscreen.  8)

We got another old Suzuki yesterday. It's a 1981 GS 1100E with 16k miles on it. We got it for the $400 owed on work already done. It had the petcock fail and dump gas in the oil which caused oil leakage at the head gasket. The bike still runs and rides good. We'll fix the head gasket and replace the rotting exhaust with a Delkevik exhaust system.
