Hopefully y’all approve of my work
Looks fantastic. Approved! I see a future BOTM there....
So, if that hypothetically ever happened, it would be the most validating experience of my life. Which is weird, because I don’t know any of you. But I do want to say, it only looks the way it does because of you folks on this forum - as always, very grateful and very aware that I’m a CB novice. The whole engine would be satin black if BenelliSEI hadn’t posted pictures of his bike and made me INSANELY jealous
How did you get your engine covers so shiny?
Following advice on here I got a 3-stage from caswell that cost only $50 - you get 6 buffing wheels/ pads, and 3 cutting compounds. It is very good. Other than major scratches or scuffs (used files and sandpaper for those) the rope wheel will get off any scratches or oxidation. So I used the kit, with the addition of my dremel and assorted mini buffing pads for the hard to reach areas around the bolt holes etc. The valve cover and stator cover have some annoying crannies.
I used a clamp to clamp my high-speed corded drill to the bench, and then brought the cover to the drill. Proper redneck engineering. I’ve done the same thing with an angle grinder, but don’t tell my girlfriend 👍 Make sure you wear a respirator and eye protection. The polishing powder & aluminum dust are absolutely filthy and ruinous to your health. Probably won’t kill your just doing one set of covers though.
It’s very simple but fairly tedious. And yeah, addictive. And it will make the rest of your bike look like #$%* when you’re done, so before you know it you’re trawling fastener websites for shiny shinies and polishing your cam chain tensioner that no one will ever see
