Yesterday, I filled her up with oil and cranked round for about 20 minutes on the kickstarter just to flow that oil all over (hopefully) then put the exhausts on. Just need a battery now and so the next time I'm home I should be able to start her up for the first time.
Today I went down to Brighton with the missus and some good friends to the Oriental Buffet for lunch, at £16/head and all the food you can eat. Wonderful.
Getting ready now to drive back to North Wales for another 2 week stint. Hate being away from my babies.

Good eye for detail Meriggi, the rug came from my parents house. It was going to be put out in the trash so I snatched on to it and told them I had a use for it. At the time I had know idea I would parking my 76 750 on it. Notice the Honda is on the rug and the Harley is on the cold concrete. I hadn't quite figured that one out.

As a kid, I would play on the rug, it was a "race track" for my toy cars!

Got some "new" parts for the 550F on ebay: a stock muffler in good shape for $50 shipped [very hard to find] and a rack of carbs, already cleaned with new jets and seats for $110 shipped. Goal is to have it road ready by March 1st.

Removed engine on my K2 and took to MikeR so he can swap the head to a 812cc head...

Dismantled the front end of the K4, removed gauges, etc in preparation for doing steering head bearings. Decided as well to replace the harness in the near future since the insulator cover is cracking all over the place and I already have the taillight wire running externally. Might as well do it when its apart.

cheers
Andy

What is the advantage of drilling the drum/shoes? Wouldn't a person be concerned about dirt and water collecting in there?

Don't worry about sounding like a jerk, it's a very valid question.

I think it looks cool, and I guess the dirt and stuff pretty much falls out the venting slots in the bottom of the cover.  I haven't had any trouble with my holy parts yet...

K4 - forgot to mention the new Dennis Kirk roller bearings fit perfectly. The fork ears lined up exactly as they were with the old balls. No space between the top and bottom triple tree. While I wait for the chrome fork ear to be properly fixed by my chromer I will rebuild and paint of the gauge cases.

Hey Johnie. I noticed aways back you were putting white in the letters of your tank badges. What type-brand of paint did you select.??   I did some with Testors model paint but found it pretty thin and translucent. Had to lay in around 3 coats. Little bottle got better as the fumes worked out and thickened a bit though.

when I wash the bike and go for a ride, I don't notice anything out of the ordinary.
I think the spinning and the fact that I make a right turn out of the driveway pours any excess water out.
and besides, when it's raining hard, don't you gently ride the brake anyway? or is that just me?

When I did mine a few years back,I used some duplicolor that came in small aerosol cans from Kragens.I got a can each of black and white.I just sprayed a bit into the cap and brushed it on. It worked fine and still looks great. I figured it was automotive touch up paint so it should last ok. It is a time consuming job but like anything else...worth it in the end.

We finished up the switch pods for Kit's CL350. Took off all the bad casing on the wires and put on black the whole way, re-soldered some points, drilled holes in the pods and finished the edges so now she can run the wiring outside the "M" bars she installed. Then repolished the pods. Had to PB Blaster some of the screws in there. PITA. Just need to clean up the cable adjusters now. They are a little rusty looking.  :)

Hey John, looks like lots of folks here (including me) are interested in your K4 build, why not start a seperate thread mate? ;D

when I wash the bike and go for a ride, I don't notice anything out of the ordinary.
I think the spinning and the fact that I make a right turn out of the driveway pours any excess water out.
and besides, when it's raining hard, don't you gently ride the brake anyway? or is that just me?

Hey, there's nothing wrong with water cooled brakes mate, and rusty brake drums produce a "pitted" friction surface, thus increasing the surface area and creating more friction = better stopping, perfect! I'm off to drill some holes!;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)
